I am really saddened by what I am seeing in Goodwill. There was a time when you could get some serious bargains, and nice items for very low, affordable prices. You still can, but more and more of their items are very highly priced. I came in looking for some art, plus other items. Prices for some of the bigger art, were in the $39.99 to $49.00 range! I wish this was an exaggeration. Handbags were the same. Most of them were $10 and over, with many of them priced upward of $15.99. Needless to say, I did not purchase anything during this trip. This is a thrift store. They get their inventory for free from donations. And although, their purpose is to provide job training and employment based opportunities, they are still a thrift store, known for being inexpensive and selling used donated goods. I will say the only thing that stood out for me in the store during my stop, was the service. I don't know what has happened to goodwill, it definitely does not feel like they are pricing things appropriately at all! These prices are outrageous! I spent a long time walking through the store looking for something prices reasonably priced and the more I shopped around the worse it got. I left without buying anything! The staff is very nice and courteous but I just couldn't bring myself to spend so much money on donated items! Baskets cost more in Goodwill than at Michael's! Sadly I can't see myself shopping here again, there are much better options for thrifting. read more

These folks are a bunch of prima donnas. Evidently you must provide an EXACT list of items to be picked up - they won't take anything not on the manifest. Which meant that with 3 days to go until the move, we got left with a bunch of furniture that we don't want to move - and Goodwill wouldn't take. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. There are plenty of other charities out there that are easier to deal with. read more

I drop off my donations at this store regularly and the staff is always very friendly and helpful! I've shopped inside a few times and found some really great, gently used items at very low prices. The staff are also friendly. They have hand sanitizer at the store and a way for you to clean your cart. It's generally not too crowded and there's plenty of items coming in and out. I really like this Goodwill. It's very big, clean, & organized. The front of the store usually has a lot of the bigger items & better kept furniture. Off to the left of the store there are housewares, decorations, a holiday section, records, furniture, & other odds n ends. To the right of the store are all the clothes/shoes. The women's section does overtake the majority of the right side with a small section for children & men. I have found several dresses with tags still on them, a lot of name brand jeans, & some name brand men's shirts/jackets. All the items have been really cheap too! It's nice going to Goodwill & the prices are actually second hand prices. For the best deals go on Sundays when the tag color changes for the week. You'll get first pick of all the items that haven't been picked over from the previous week. I'd also recommend coming during the week for casual shopping since during the weekend it gets very packed & there is usually a decent line for checking out & the dressing rooms. read more

Honestly when I walked in, I didn't think I would buy anything. It's a clean store and very organized. The employees were nice people and very helpful. I got the two chairs today and very happy with my purchase. 1 chair was 9.99 and the other was 5.99. The exact same chair and I got them both for $6 bucks a piece. Well worth it. I will be coming back to see what else I can buy. Of course any goodwill store is a hit or miss. read more

What a great second hand store! This place is well lit, clean, and well organized. They have all the weird stuff that you'd expect at a thrift shop- old electronics, clothes, shoes, coffee mugs! Go pop some tags! The staff is helpful and fast on the register. They do sell some snacks up at the front of the place if you're interested. No, they're not second-hand snacks. The prices here are quite nice- their plate and glasses prices are seriously hard to beat. Heck, at these prices on plates, I just might never do dishes again! I ended up going home with a French Press coffee maker for $3- what a score! I'll certainly be back. read more

I'm really glad this Goodwill store is conveniently located near 281 and Bitters. They have several parking spots reserved for donation drop off. A helpful store employee comes out to retrieve my items as soon as I pull up, which makes my task expedient and painless. There is actually a donation bin that's located much closer to my home, but having to toss bags of clothes and bulky, heavy items in the large bin wouldn't be ideal for a person of my frame or strength. In the meantime (while I have no plans to train for the Strong Woman contest), this Goodwill store will remain my donation drop off of choice. By the way, the Yelp map is wrong. I was using my Yelp app, and had to circle around to find the actual destination. The store is actually a few storefronts north of Embassy Oaks on the 281 access road. read more

So not that I would ever need to shop at Goodwill or know anyone who has shopped there, but I have to say....if I were ever to say....I was pretty surprised by the selection and condition of the items....not that I was there to see it....but if I were, I may or may not have found several cute tops and a bag there. Best Goodwill I have ever been in. I was shocked when I walked in the door of this place. I smelled like fabric softener and I had know complaints. All clothing was clean and color coded sections. The clothes and shoes were nice in this place. I was just so impressed. I am wearing one of the shirts that I purchased when I was there. I spent just $24.00 and I walked away with 6 nice shirts. Needed my furniture pickup. No one gave me any issues before my furniture was pickup. When it came to be picked up the movers told me it was not up to par even though no one said anything before the time it was picked up. When I called goodwill they said it was not they're problem and they would not help me without any explanation. I asked for a supervisor and the phone hung up I my face. I didn't need a whole day off for this and rude people. Please do not donate to good will because it's a scam. read more

This is a great Goodwill. They have a very big selection of books and home items. I haven't had too much luck with the clothing items but I haven't looked too hard. They also have a lot of toys and stuffed animals. I generally like to just check out the books when I go there and I have found so many treasures. You can't beat the price of 1$ each, especially when we are talking about practically brand new hardbacks. read more

I am a regular good will shopper and normally enjoy the experience and "thrill of the hunt". I donate regularly and I like shopping at this location even though I live closer to the Gateway location where I also shop. Gateway location has excellent customer service!!! But the other day, my sister and I were at 281 & Bitter location and had another horrible experience while trying to check out. I found a wonderful living room lamp on a display top and pointed it out to my sister, who has been looking for lamps. She admired it but wanted to see what else was available. She went to the area where the lighting fixtures are located and found a similar lamp. The lamp had at least 15 price stickers on it and it was less than the other lamp. This one had a badly frayed cord and would require repair but she decided she would purchase it. We figured the price difference was due to the condition. We proceeded to the checkout counter and had to wait to a clerk. When the clerk arrived, she looked in our cart and then asked who put the price on the lamp. This was before she was even behind the counter. My sister stated she found the lamp in the back area. The clerk stated there was another lamp and if we had seen it but before we could answer, she asked again who priced the lamp. She stated she had been on the dock when the pair of lamps had been donated and she know the value of the lamps. Now this is all happening in front of a line of customers. The clerk said to go look at the other lamp and it was not in a pleasant tone. She finally rang our purchases up but the whole time she is asking who put the price tags on the lamp. HOW DO WE KNOW????? This is not the first time this same clerk has questioned prices for items or refused to sell it to myself or other customers. My sister stated she has had the issue before also. I am not naive that I do not realize that there are people who will change prices, HOWEVER MY SISTER AND I ARE NOT CHANGING PRICES!!! This clerk acts like it is her personal store and everyone is a thief. If something does not have a price and I wish to purchase it; I will go and find a clerk and ask for it to be priced. I understand Goodwill's mission is to aid and educated , maybe a course in customer service would be of value. At a regular retail store, that kind of service would not be tolerated. Just because I am shopping at a thrift store does not mean I except any less in customer service. After a lifetime in customer service, I know what to expect and appreciate in excellent customer service. read more

Go to goodwill at least once a week. My family usually hits most of the goodwills in town. But I have no idea what is going on at this location. It was like at the start of this year they hired new employees who must have been the rejects from other locations. They are some of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of getting customer service from. What happened to all the nice regulars? Did they move them to slower hours and put these crappy employees during the afternoon rush? Very disapointed with the service at this location. read more

This location is wonderful! I always find so many good electronics here, not to mention the staff is fantastic! When I think great customer service I think of Apple stores, well an employee by the name of Scott delivered just that. Ugh! Awful! I took my mother for our usual day of thrifting and thought we'd go a bit off course and try this Goodwill, it was very disappointing! The organization..or lack of it was just messy, hot inside, the prices were ok, but my main complaint is the out of control customers. Rude adults and totally out of control, unruly kids. They were riding/crashing around on tricycles, tearing up toys and exercise equipment..etc and the store clerks did nothing! Atleast make an announcment for the parents to keep their kids with them...although it probably wouldn't have done much good. Needless to say, we won't be back read more

My son and I were chastised by Trace for laughing in the fitting room at a ill fitted suit jacket my son tried on. She SHUUUSSHHHDD us finger to lips spit and all. I replied" I didnt know we were in a libary." She replied "Oh your not". We were not loud nor being disrespectful in any manner.The door was open and she just kept staring at us and told us "Umm thats not a good fit" As we put the jacket back we were stil in shock at how she thought it was ok to talk to customers like that. read more

This is always one of my Go-To Goodwill stores! They have treasures that you can find. I found a great set of vintage China that I saw for 3 times more in another local shop! The clothes are easy to shop by size and color. I can go right to what I want. Love their holiday sales too. I Always check their "color of the week" sales for 50% off first. Once upon a time we (my entire family) all loved to go to Goodwill Stores throughout San Antonio. The finds were great and the prices awesome until the year 2012 rolled around. The prices are now outrageous so much so that you leave the stores in disbelief. Items you can find new at the dollar store for one dollar are at the Goodwill Stores for $5; used clothing items are now $8, $12, and higher at the Goodwill. At these prices you might as well go to Ross and Dollar Stores to purchase the items brand new for half the price at the Goodwill. It does not pay to waste time and gasoline anymore to enter the Goodwill Stores. It is a shame, but Goodwill Stores are surely destined to close very soon if they don't control their greed. There is no need for managements' six figure salaries. For God's sake the items you sell are donated and most of your labor is volunteer-based mostly assigned to work at Goodwill Stores by court orders until community service hours are completed. read more
