We spent the weekend in San Francisco, mainly walking around North Beach. I somehow left my hat at the airport security (got it back later) but it was sprinkly rain and I needed a hat - so where else to go but this San Francisco specialty. This is not a "funky lidz" hat store - it's a real hat specialty store, and they make great stuff that's fortunately not absurdly overpriced. Spend some time just admiring the types of hats they carry. Staff were helpful. Love the hat I got even though it wasn't entirely rainproof, it's stylish as heck. Go. Get a hat! read more

I'm writing this review out of sheer frustration and disappointment with Goorin Bros, both regarding the quality of their hats and the way their customer service team handled my case. About six years ago, my husband and I purchased a couple of Goorin Bros hats during a trip to the US, at the Boston store. We were told these hats would be a lifetime investment thanks to their quality and durability. However, despite only wearing them once or twice a year and taking meticulous care -- always storing them in hat boxes and handling them gently -- the hats began to deteriorate quickly. The structures at the joints became visibly damaged, to the point they almost fell apart after minimal use over six years. Naturally, we reached out to Goorin's customer service hoping for some advice or assistance, fully expecting the brand to stand behind their product, at least in some capacity given the high price and promises made. Unfortunately, what we encountered was an entirely unsatisfactory and dismissive response. The support team repeatedly emphasized that the hats were out of the 1-year warranty period. They insisted that structural damage like ours was due to normal wear and tear and hence not covered -- even though we had only worn the hats 6-12 times total over six years! This defies logic and the very concept of "wear and tear." How is this a reasonable lifespan for what was sold to us as a durable, lifetime piece? We asked if they genuinely believe such minimal wear would cause the hats to "practically fall apart," but we received no acknowledgment of our concerns. To make matters worse, the company admitted they have no repair program whatsoever. Instead, they casually suggested we find a local hatter in London (where we live) to try and fix what we consider a product failure. This is laughable given the hats were bought from Goorin and we expected better support or even goodwill efforts considering the disappointing early deterioration. We also tried escalating the issue via photos and multiple emails, but the responses never changed. The initial replies were generated by an AI assistant that repeatedly quoted policies without empathy or practical solutions. When a human did respond, their message still boiled down to "sorry, it's out of warranty, no repair or compensation, find your own repairer." This entire experience has left me feeling that we were oversold on product quality and undersupported as customers. Hats that fall apart after so little use are not what I consider high-quality. And a brand that won't even offer any option beyond cold policy enforcement has lost our trust entirely. I sincerely hope Goorin Bros takes this feedback seriously and considers extending better warranties, improving product durability, and treating customers with more empathy and goodwill when issues arise. Until then, I cannot recommend this brand or their hats to anyone looking for genuine quality or aftercare. read more

Try to buy it from the Store. The staff is great and can really help you develop your hat style. Not to mention the website is horrible second only to their social/text marketing. (It's like they are trying to make it hard to buy a hat from Instagram.) The store is awesome and has a great vibe. The staff is honest and will not push you beyond your comfort level but are a great hype team if you need the extra push. They always welcome you back into the store with your hat to give it a steam or a quick brush off. I have yet to add feathers or add-ons to my hats. Even though I have a dozen+ Goorin hats -- it's just a bit too much attention to me and the hat. But I have watched hats go from cool to amazing and I wish I had the style/confidence to pull it off. I use my hats as everyday hats -- hoodies and a fedora is not out the question for my outfit on a Sunday morning breakfast run. Lucky Tip: Go during a weekday and enjoy the experience. Wear the hat out like you did as a kid when you got new shoes. Go grab a pizza next door at Tony's and have an amazing day/evening. You can shop online but going to the store is better. Not all hats remain the same size. Wicker hats tend to shrink up on me a bit -- just a bit but it's noticeable and frustrating. So if you are between sizes go with the next one up. The hat quality is amazing. Felt hats tend to lose their stiffness (dean the butcher) but bounce right back into shape with a little touch. Take care of the soft hats and they will last forever. I have a few that are now going on 5-6 years old and they look amazing. They just moved away from an old skool customer loyalty program/stamp card to a digital process that is less than clear how it works. If you are new to hats -- flat caps are a gateway drug. read more

Stopped in looking for a very specific hat. Robin helped us. Very knowledgeable, obviously enjoys the business. Found what I wanted, but as we were leaving the city in 36 hrs, she didn't know if they could get it ready as they were quite busy & it was late in the day. Lemme give you a quick heads-up - Goorin Bros. is the best hat store in the Bay Area. And their North Beach location is the best one in the Bay Area. I used to come here for all my fedora needs. But in the past year, I've taken a liking to their funny line of trucker caps. Each one has an ironic animal/slogan on the front (eg a dog that says "Weiner"; a Squirrel that says "Nuts"; and a grey hat that says "Silver Fox"). Maybe it's not funny to you, but it cracks me up. Trust me, these hats are always a great conversation starter at meet-ups and parties. Most of these caps run between $20 - $30. They're super comfy and well made. And if they get too dirty or sweaty, you can always rinse them out in the dishwasher (it takes just a few minutes). Service at the North Bay location is always super friendly. You can try on as many hats as you'd like without someone giving you a dirty look. I've never left this store without one or two new purchases. Thankfully, this store isn't in my hood... otherwise, I'd be broke and have a closet full of hats. Bought a trucker hat because I was told it was 50% off. The salesperson told me to my face that it was on sale. Full retail for the hat is $75 (I would not have bought it for that much). At 50% off, yes please. Bought it along with another $180 hat. Was happy. Noted today, a month later, that I was not given a discount on the trucker hat. I called and they told me (Robin) that there was nothing on sale in that "capsule" and that I should take it up with customer service. I understand it was not Robin's sale or their fault. Came in Wednesday 11/20/19 about 6:30. The store was holding the last size small County Line Fedora hat for me. I wasn't sure what to expect when I came in but I was greeted by an awesome group of East coast guys. They were al so incredibly nice. We all chatted, laughed and they help to set me up with properly fitting the hat and feathers. The hat is absolutely beautiful. They taught me how to temporarily roll up which I hope I remember. I already used the hat when I went to the rainy redwoods that weekend. I post pics of the hat. It's my favorite and I'm anxious for another one! PROS: - flagship store - held my desired item - accommodating to me having to drive from An hour away for the hat - all the staff there was super awesome, helpful, and great to chat with. If the store had drinks and snacks I would've stayed all night. Ha - located in an area where I went to grab a drink and snack right after - got to use my discounts - great shop with tailored experience, like shopping used to be for fine quality items CONS: - parking is challenging. I love coming in here. The shop is artisan & professional. It's elegantly cool, & cooly elegant. The vibe is "we may be pretty stylish & kinda swanky, but we're too cool & easy like Sunday morning to get all caught up in it." These guys & gals are serious about hats. I always think I need another fedora; when in actuality I really don't. So, most recently I purchased a stunning hat called Mrs. Franklin in the color natural. Love, love, love. My hat hostess was Tara, & she definitely knows her stuff & what works. She paired the Mrs. Franklin w a scarf that was a gorgeous shade of coral. Walking in the store, the whole experience comes together - Dark wood shelves, high quality merchandise, helpful and attentive service and cool accessories. Goorin Bros. makes some terrific quality hats in a variety of styles and a good selection of sizes. The store is spacious and spread between two high-ceilinged rooms with windows looking out towards Washington Square Park. It's a fun place to look around if you're passing by.
