Our server cooked for us the entire dinner and watched the grill the entire time - very attentive! He would also check with us if the meat was cooked to how we wanted. The sauces pair great with the meats. I'm Korean so I really like the sesame oil salt with the brisket. What surprised me was their Chimichurri sauce! Was not expecting it at all but it was incredibly flavorful and surprisingly paired well with the galbi. The chimichurri was my boyfriend's favorite sauce. I think the galbi was extremely tender, however did wish it had just a bit more of the marinade flavor. We are curious to try the LA Galbi next time. Now for the side dishes. I wish the broccoli had some more salt, but everything was fresh. I enjoyed the kimchi since it didn't have any anchovy flavor, but there are some people like the more fishy flavor. Salad was refreshing. The soybean soup had the perfect amount of spice & the vegetables inside were generous chunks which I enjoy. Rice was also fluffy - not too wet & not too dry. This is not a place you bring your family for a dining experience because there are all of 4 or 5 tables. 20 seats max. On a more positive note, the sauces they offered were good. Now let's move onto what induced my hanger. The japchae tasted like it was soaked in chemicals. It just had that stale tap water vibe that was very off putting. The bulgogi had a decent flavor but the texture was... questionable. The pickled veggies had no crunch. I've never had soggy cucumbers from a Korean spot, ever! There was three of us and we went on the weekend, but when we got to the restaurant, we were the only ones in there besides one employee that we saw. I guess this should have been a red flag, but we just thought maybe it wasn't as busy since it was kinda in between lunch and dinner when we arrived. The first let down was the ambiance wasn't the best, but hey, some of the best food is found in the hole in the wall places, so we were still pretty excited! Then we ordered several different types of meat kababs and some rice cakes and we were so excited to get to cook them....then we found out, you have to have at least 6 or 8 people to get a table that allows you to cook your own kababs. They just cooked them in the back and brought them out. For a satisfying, no-frills gopchang experience, Gopchang on Fire 2 gets the job done. I believe Gopchang on Fire is the OG gopchang restaurant brand/chain in Georgia. If you're unfamiliar with gopchang, it's Korean grilled cow and pig intestines. It's like Korean barbecue, from the in-table grills to the banchan (side dishes), but instead of beef brisket and pork belly, it's intestines and tripe. Unfortunately, just the words "intestines" and "tripe" are an immediate turnoff for a lot of people. To each their own. That said, if you're open-minded and/or the adventurous type when it comes to food, I encourage you to try one of these gopchang restaurants. I think gopchang is delicious and I've yet to be disappointed. If you've had intestines and tripe from other places/cuisines (e.g., Chinese, Latin American), throw those experiences out the window. Korean gopchang is different in almost every way -- taste, smell, and texture (more on that below). Set aside any preconceived notions. Don't knock it till you've tried it. Since I reviewed the original Gopchang on Fire in 2016, several gopchang restaurants have opened in metro Atlanta, mostly in Gwinnett County, of course. It's a good sign Atlanta can sustain at least seven gopchang restaurants now, by my count. It's really good and better for less-adventurous eaters. Gopchang on Fire 2 had a pretty streamlined menu. The combos are the way to go and then I suggest adding a side of rice or noodles (e.g., Kimchi Fried Rice for $4.99). Also, gopchang goes well with soju. The restaurant sold a few different flavors, priced at $12.99 per bottle. There were only two combos: A ($59.99) and B ($69.99). They came with the exact same things. The only difference was the portion size. Combo A was designed for 3 people and Combo B was designed for 4 people. My friend and I, just two of us, completely demolished one Combo A. It came with: * Gop Chang - small intestine of cow * Dae Chang ("big innards") - large intestine of cow * Mak Chang ("last tripe") - upper lining of last stomach of cow * Tuek Yang - upper lining of first stomach of cow * Yeomtong - cow heart Everything was yummy. Unlike the intestines I've had at a lot of non-Korean restaurants, these tasted very clean and lean. No unpleasant smell or odor and not overly fatty or oily. The fat was trimmed off, which is one thing I appreciate about gopchang. They prepared it well. The organs were seasoned and/or marinated. The small intestine was stuffed with ingredients like garlic. Yum. We got two dipping sauces: sesame oil with salt and Korean soy sauce with chopped bird's eye chili. The latter was subtly sweet. Overall, I thought all of the intestines, tripe, and heart had savory, appetizing flavors with various firm and chewy consistencies. In general, the first stomach is the chewiest and it only gets chewier the longer it's on the grill. Banchan, with standard free refills, included spicy chives, spicy pickled onion and bell peppers, spicy cold mung bean sprouts, and kimchi. I will say, aside from the chives, the banchan was a bit lackluster. The quantity was there, but the quality was not. None of the dishes were bad. It's just that the competition is very stiff in Gwinnett when it comes to banchan freshness/quality and variety. However, I'm not complaining much because the meal we had was reasonably priced. As is customary at Korean barbecue restaurants in Atlanta, our food was cooked for us at our table by the servers. We visited on a Tuesday night and there were only two young ladies working the front of the house. The place got decently busy - maybe seven active tables at its peak - and the servers stayed on top of everything. They were nice too. Great service. This is a small, humble, old-school restaurant. The interior isn't as modern or nice as some of the aforementioned newer gopchang restaurants. Gopchang on Fire 2 feels more warm, homey, and low-key. Pork belly was thin and our server JP cooked it very well. Bulgogi was really tender and marinated well, much better than other AYCE bulgogi. We decided to also get à la carte marinated short rib that was really really good. Incredibly tender and flavorful. After trying the short rib I really want to get a set next time, this place has potential to upstage 678 and Kang's kitchen in my mind. The banchan was also fantastic: the japchae actually tasted fresh and well seasoned with chewy noodles that didn't fall apart. The AYCE came with corn cheese that was less cheese/mayo forward so it didn't get too heavy. Kimchi was pretty fresh and tasted house made. The AYCE also came with unlimited steamed egg and soup, and the soup was fantastic. Super well seasoned with a nice kick. Probably the best side dishes I've had at a kbbq place for AYCE. They also give you melona after the meal! I don't eat Korean BBQ often, but some of my party are KBBQ veterans. One of us is from the Los Angeles area. One thing that I love about Korean BBQ places here is many have grills that use actual charcoal, not a gas grill. The ventilation system here is the best I've seen. We left without the smell of the dinner on our clothes. The bon chon offerings were generous and a multitude of delicious dishes. In a crowded and competitive KBBQ market, this place is excellent.
