Minhwa Spirits is technically a soju distillery, but also serves Korean fusion food and coffee! The coffee comes from Postern Coffee which is situated inside Minhwa Spirits. There is some space inside to dine in or study, as well as outdoor seating. It has a quirky and eccentric vibe. The service was friendly and quick... food came out super fast! We got the Coconut Ube Latte, KFC Sando, and Hashbrown. I took a bite of the KFC Sando and was blown away at how good it tasted. The chicken was fried to perfection and very meaty. I enjoyed the pickles, which tasted a bit like cucumber kimchi. The spicy mayo was also tasty. Toward the end of my meal, the chicken started tasting a bit too much like meat and it was a bit off putting, but other than that it was still a delicious sandwich. The hashbrown was nothing special. The Coconut Ube Latte was beautifully presented, but it tasted a bit heavy. I think there was too much milk and it ended up tasting like chocolate milk with no hint of ube. I absolutely love this spot! The service is consistently warm and attentive; it's the kind of hospitality that keeps you coming back. The space itself is gorgeous: modern-Asian decor with bold, rad art adorning the walls. It's stylish without trying too hard, and the atmosphere adds so much to the dining experience. The food is always fantastic and I love that the menu always has something new and creative to try. Some of the dishes I have had include the Korean fried chicken (KFC) sandwich, the Wagyu burger, a beautiful crispy chicken thigh over kabocha purée with fried garlic chili brussels, and "The Bird's Nest" (shiso miso pesto, soba noodles, roasted mushrooms and leeks, topped with a perfectly gooey egg-- YUMMMM). They always have a fun and unique salad option, this time I had a taste of the harvest salad, it was fresh and hit all the flavor notes. TBH, every single dish has been memorable. Their cocktails are just as impressive they are light, fun, and beautifully balanced. They make their own soju and makgeolli, which is such a unique touch and really elevates the whole experience. I read that they recently won a prestigious award for their soju!! This place delivers on every level: food, service, atmosphere, and creativity. Came back here and unfortunately they no longer have the amazing purple rice bowl. I know that was a pop up, but they should figure out how to make that available every day. I came in bc of the pavlova crispy rice, and it did not disappoint! The texture changes and multiple flavors just meshed beautifully. The grit bowl was pretty good, but really really heavy. I think the drink I got was "Fade to Black" and it tasted like nothing so would not recommend it. This place has a rotating menu, and I will definitely be back. Had the pleasure of dining at Minhwa Spirits for a fundraiser for Sarah Park who is running for Duluth City Council. Didn't realize I'd be coming to such a delicious and excellent establishment in the midst of great company. The food served here is Korean but also there were some pasta dishes and noodle dishes which were delicious and seemed like Asian fusion. The drinks served here are excellent as well as they serve cocktails that are soju based by a local supplier. Friendly customer service and excellent vibes at Minhwa Spirits. Parking is plentiful. I recently visited Minhwa Spirits after salivating over their food and drink pics for a week. I'm pretty sure it's one of the few soju distilleries in the entire US and kind of puts Georgia on the map for Korean culture. It's also home to Ginja, which is incubating out of the restaurant space. Minhwa refers to a kind of Korean folk art, and Ganji refers to a kind of feeling so I guess that makes sense -- they are perfect complements to each other. The food from Ganji was exceptional. Standouts included the Ganji burger, which had a great balance of flavors, and the black pepper jam pork belly, which was even better when ordered extra crispy. Other highlights were the goguma mandu (sweet potato dumplings), banban chicken bites, and burrata salad. The menu seems to be seasonal so don't expect everything to be there if you're coming between seasons. Everything paired really well with the Minhwa cocktails -- which is a good segue. The drinks were equally impressive and different, found in the chemistry of things you don't usually see together. Many of them were familiar but slightly modified. The Empress Negroni, for example, was outstanding -- a bit of negroni and bit of Old Fashioned. My other favorite was the Matcha Sour. I was surprised by the lack of patrons. I guess the word isn't out, and this place hasn't blown up yet. The location might be a factor since it's tucked away in a plaza that includes the former Oasis. If you're willing to explore, get here and try it out before it becomes hard to get a table. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. The bartender came by and chatted for a while about the drinks and local happenings. Interior dining space is airy, open, lots of windows... comfortable and beautiful. Really great place. read more

How lucky we are to have this incredible locally-owned new distillery and "jumak" in the neighborhood. You can't miss the stunning artwork on the side of the building, and it's just as beautiful inside. They showcase a local artist (Andrew Blooms - you're going to want to look him up) and the decor is neutral and comfortable. There's outside patio seating with heaters, so it's also good for families and pups. The space is shared with Ganji (food) and Postern (coffee) so you don't need to go anywhere else for a great time with friends or family. I'm not any sort of expert on soju, but I am an expert cocktail drinker, plus theirs won "soju of the year" in the USA ratings last year, so I'm pretty confident in recommending it. Their makgeolli is generations in the making, with a family legacy that delivers an incredibly fresh and tangy taste - amazing alone, or add orange juice for a "Makmosa". Served in a beautiful Korean teapot, you will want to go straight for the sharing size. Thank me later. So this place must be kind of new, I'm not sure, but it was pretty good regardless. It's in a small shopping center so there's free parking there. It's right next to an apartment building. Joe, I'm sure that they get a lot of business from that. There isn't a lot in this shopping center yet so they're probably building it out, but as of right now this is probably the biggest thing there. They have indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. They have umbrellas and a heat lamp out there so if it's too cold you can probably still sit outside. There could be a lot of people watching sitting outside but it's pretty much only parking lot views LOL. But that's fine! Mule - The mule was pretty good. It had a lot of bitterness to it so maybe not as much citrus in there. But overall it was a very good drink. I really wasn't trying to drink a whole lot, but I wanted to try something from their menu. If you look at their menu, they have a lot of particular and specific drinks. But some of them are actually familiar as well. Like we know what a mule is, that part isn't going to change.. the person I was with had another drink and it had a lot more presentation to it but it looked really good. Wish I had a picture of it for you! Colonel Kim KFC sando - ! Now this was a really big chicken sandwich. Sandwich was huge, as far as the meat portion goes, and it was drenched in sauce. The sauce are really good but it's going to be messy so keep that in mind! The sandwich was a little bit hot too, it came with peppers that were sliced up on it as well so just keep that in mind. Obviously you can take them off but it added a little extra to the flavor. Fries - the fries were good. They came with a ketchup but it wasn't really ketchup, it was something else. Maybe some type of variation but it was really good. They were very crispy and perfectly seasoned. It was kind of like old school rallies fries when it came to The taste. So just keep that in mind. Overall, this was a really good spot and I would have to go back to try a couple other things. Their menu isn't fast as far as size goes, but they have enough on there. And it's not typically like only small plates. Even though the plates are small, but there are some filling plates as well. Minhwa's seating is interesting with a coffee shop on the front end and the more restaurant style seating as you get closer to the back. Drinks were okay 6/10 - we had the house highball, strawberry fields, and beans cocktail - but the food, 10/10. Everything had a slight twist or something special to it and tasted so good. - Shrimp katsu (never had shrimp katsu, only chicken, and this was so good) - Purp rice bowl with fried chicken bites (lots of parts, filling, egg was perfectly cooked) - Shin fries (good, stayed crispy) - Goguma Mandu (perfectly balanced, not too sweet, my personal fav) - Tiramisu Mille-feuille (easily shareable for 2+, cream was good, pastry was flaky, overall a bit too crisp for us) We were stuffed with four dishes between the three of us and then also got their dessert. Review is geared towards people looking for a place to be productive who ended up staying at The Postern Coffee past 4pm when the establishment changes into Minhwa Spirits for its nighttime from 5p-10p. To be very honest, you can stay after The Postern "closes" and opens back up as Minhwa spirits. Same physical establishment, but now it is table service where a server will come up and you have to order or else they will kick you out. This place can still be a good place to still work as you can now enjoy a small-medium bite/meal. I recommend at this point to work on things like drafting emails or gathering resources. Something that isn't very heavily studying and remembering but rather tasky/checkoffs. I will explain a little more on why I think so in the next paragraph about food. I definitely recommend their strawberry makgeolli. I will come back with a friend or 2 just to have a good time sharing a tea pot of this for only 25$ 10/10. Service is amazing as always. I believe some of the staff members are the same that come back and work nighttime. After drinking commercially produced soju all my life, I was blown away by the complex flavors of the soju at Minhwa Spirits. I ordered a glass of the makgeolli while my partner ordered the drink flight which included two kinds of soju and the gin. We didn't get to try the food but enjoyed our libations and the aesthetically pleasing atmosphere and friendly service. I visited Minhwa recently to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. My friends enjoyed their cocktails, particularly the lychee one. I enjoyed my Lavender Nights mocktail, which was delicious, smooth, and not overly sweet! I loved that there was ample indoor and outdoor seating and the decor was absolutely beautiful. For a first time that I thought would meet my expectations, it ended up being a lackluster experience. There were many good reviews listed on this page that it at first piqued my interest. However, that first time ended up being my last time coming to this place. The amount of time, energy, and money I've spent at this place became a complete waste and it was utterly disappointing. The food was bland to say the least and overpriced for that taste. As for service, I felt as though I would've received better service at an iHop instead, which isn't the greatest feeling in the world either. Wish more people knew about this place. Its a cool spot that feels like it belongs in Midtown / Krog Street area. Even though the food seemed like it should be heavy, I did not have the heavy greasy feeling and was very pleasantly surprised. All of the ingredients and quality seemed very high end. We also had the burger which I forgot to take a photo of that was great. I will have to try the chicken sandwich next time as photos on Google look great. The tostada was something my friends and I all remarked was very very good and I am not an avocado fan. They just got their alcohol license so we were able to do the 17% Soju shots which were crazy smooth. No burn at all, so super dangerous! They brew their own soju with simple clean ingredients, so I honestly did not feel bad the next day. My friend got the matcha cocktail which he liked a lot and I got the Gateway Highball which went well with the fried wings and chicken bites. The atmosphere and vibe was great and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Finally came back to this wonderful gem in Doraville but.....this time for dinner. I started with the Simple & Clean cocktail- Yong soju, clarified lychee, lemon super juice, guava foam. The large plate dinner menu has lots of interesting choices for under $20. I went with the Kimchi Rice with chicken. This bowl was a delight to my palate with all the ingredients beautifully balanced in a generous portion. I am sure it was chicken thigh cooked perfectly soft and juicy. Fully satisfied, I waited to make room for one of two desserts this evening. I went with the bread pudding, encrusted and crispy on the outside, perfectly moist on the inside in a devine orange and apple spice jelly. OMG! This place is well worth the reasonably priced items that rival upscale eateries in the area. Everything is perfectly cooked, thoughtfully combined flavor profiles served simply without out a lot of pomp and circumstance. Our previous bartender Camelot served up another night of delicious cocktails with great banter and a wonderful smile! A+++ and gold stars all around for Minhwa. Incredible experience! Came here with a large group and dined on the outside patio on a chilly day. James got all the gas heaters going for us. Food and drinks were all incredible. Chicken sandwich is one of the best I've had in Atlanta, burrata salad was incredibly fresh, and all the Soju cocktails and straight pours were masterfully crafted. Ming spoke to us about the distilling process and gave us a great history lesson and told us the awesome story of getting the business started. Today I stumbled upon a great new find. Minhwa Spirit is located right off Tilly Mill in the Tilly Mill crossing. Honestly it can be a little confusing trying to find them if you use the GPS. Due to the cafe being in a fairly new built up area. But they are right next-door to The Paw Stand and the behind LUMEN. Coming up to the cafe, you will see a very nice outdoor space to eat or drink. Or just to have a conversation and enjoy the beautiful mural on the side of the building. Coming into Mihwa you will quickly notice the elegant modern/mid century touch to the decor. Which I truly love. I was greeted with a big welcome in . I didn't know it they where open for business as of yet. But I was met by Mr. James ( co-owner). Mr. James explained that at the time I arrived the coffee and tea time was over. But I could have a seat and look over the food menu. I was very pleased to have a conversation with Mr. James about the cafe. He explained they only been open a little over a month. And they just started the food menu. He also stated hopefully in a couple weeks they will have they're liquor licenses and will begin making there own Korean spirt. After talking for a brief moment. I decided to stay and try a couple food items. I asked what where some of the food favorites thus far. Mr. James, recommended the Pork Belly Bahn Mi and the Quesotaco Coreanos. And y'all..... OMG. I wasn't even hungry. I almost ate whole Quesotaco meal and one half of the Bahn Mi. I enjoyed it some much i ending up getting 1 more order to go. I wish I would have gotten there earlier to tea some teas and coffee. This is why I can only give 4 stars. But, I'm sure when I go back for the tea and coffee time, it will change to 5 stars.
