Today was our first visit, but it certainly won't be the last! The entire shopping experience was pleasant. That's truly hard to come by, anymore. The staff was both courteous and helpful. The only thing I was in the market for today was bacon. I had been to several stores over the last few days, and I absolutely refused to spend the almost $10/lb the grocery stores were offering. I got 5 lbs here for $34 and some change. So, about $7/lb. Yes, please! Not only was the price WAY better, but the staff was fantastic, and I can support a local business. If you're looking for meat in Frederick County this is the place to go. We go here for all of our meats from dinner meats to breakfast sausages. Everything tastes incredible and is very fresh. Went there today and they let people in with NO MASK around other people in the store. The health department and governors office needs to check them out. As a city girl, I'd never been to a meat shop, but people kept recommending this place so we stopped by. We got a small package of chicken and a pound of lean ground beef to try, and were we ever pleased! The local beef has more flavor than any I've ever had, and the chicken breasts were relatively small and super tender. (I suspect those whopping huge breasts that Walmart sells for $2/pound are the result of inhumane chicken practices. I've seen oversized, overbred, miserable birds who can't really stand up for their own weight.) We're working up to trying some steaks soon and got terrific advise from a woman at the Gore's shop. The market is a great place to get a deal on meat and cheese products. The meats are all locally grown and organically feed. They are a butcher shop so everything is done fresh. You can order package deals for a really good price. There are several different package deals that include a variety of meats. Plus they vacuum pack each cut of meat and label and date it. met one of the owners the other day and when he brought up he was a butcher I demanded to know more (being kinda new to the area i dont know any good reputable butchers or meat shops). He gave me their card and when i found the time on my day off i went to visit. Amazing selection, asked for a rib eye w/ bone in, had it custom cut 1 1/2" thick, and was on my way. Tasted delicious, and really wasnt over priced at all. i will pay more for top qaulity, and this product was top qaulity, with very very compeditive prices. I exspected to over pay a little bit, but i actually got a great deal. 2 huge rib eyes, bone in, about 15 bucks a peice. WILL RETURN and highly recommend to anyone looking for high qaulity local meat. friendly service, and no wait at all (i went on a thursday afternoon). read more

Horrible attitude from the girl at the counter today. I asked for corned beef brisket and how many pounds I could request, she states "we are more expensive." And laughs. I always purchased meats from local grocery retailers, that was until I tried Gore's Fresh Meats and Deli. I haven't been back to a grocery store for meat ever since. Gore's has the best quality of meats I've ever tasted. Other so called "competitors" do not compare. Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Any question you have, they've got an answer or suggestion to satisfy your culinary needs. Their prices are often times lower than other local store's meats as well. I haven't had a cut of meat or any product that I haven't loved. It's also great that they promote and carry products from other local businesses, such as spices, produce, seafood, and even sweets. I ordered an inch and a quarter thick bone in rib eye and the butcher came out because "he had to see the guy ordering this this steak." He gave me a big thumbs up. Location is convenient to the Winchester area. They have a good selection. Quality of the sausage was good though the taste to me was a little bland. The Ribeye steaks we purchased had a nice fat content and the taste was above average of chain supermarkets, as expected for a local butcher. Exceptionally enjoyed the bacon. Gores has great product. But make sure you know what you want before you go through the door. If not, you will run into a young girl with a major attitude. As for myself it doesn't matter how good the product is, if the person waiting on me is very rude and acting like she's doing me a favor by waiting on me, it may keep me from going back. I think someone should explain to her that the customer is the one paying her and keeping her employed. If and when I go back I will be sure to ask for someone else to help me. read more

The meats here are fantastic. The prices are good for what you get. However, the few workers I run into there, one in particular, have a terrible attitude. Some obvious misery being taken out on customers just for asking simple questions about the cuts they are trying to buy. If not for this, I would buy all my meats from this place. However I don't like handing my money over to someone who is blatantly disrespectful and condescending much less appreciative of my patronage. What a shame. read more

Product is super but the service sucks. Went in there today for several items and 5 people cutting meat. No one said Hi, Kiss my ass or hello. Finally one guy sighed and started to wash his hands after I stood there 5 minutes. I walked out and will not go back. If it is that much of a task to sell me something, forget. it.
