This is a cute little store in the middle of nowhere! They have a small wine collection which also includes a California section! They have deli sandwiches, cookies, coffee drinks and many cute trinkets. We stop here every time we roll through town.

Stopped at this little specialty shop for lunch on our way to a bed&breakfast in the Blue Ridge. It was a little bit confusing because they take the order at the counter, then you can shop (wine, cheeses, crackers, drinks, etc.), then they call your name, then you pay, then you take your food to a table in the Buttery or on their front porch. I ordered a turkey club, tomato gazpacho, and a cookie. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich. The food was amazing. It is a super slow, chill, calm vibe. We will be back!

Let's say you wanted to throw a high end dinner party or have an upscale picnic and you didn't want to cook + you wanted to go to just one store. Then Locke Store would be that store! Tons of specialty items including a small but respectable cheese and charcuterie section. Deli has a bunch of soups, salads and sandwiches all with a focus on local farm meats and produce. Frozen meats from local farms and pre-made family size meals including chicken pot pie and mac and cheese are available. All topped off with a very nice wine and craft beer selection. Wine from Napa, France, Italy and Virginia favorites like Michael Shaps, Glen Manor, Linden, Barboursville and Veritas.

One of my Mom's friends is related to the folks that run the Locke Store in Millwood, VA. Mom wanted me to go with her to check the place out with her and her friend - so today off we went. It's a quaint, very old store. The current owners offer a variety of delicious meals - based on locally produced food, as well as wines, beers, other beverages, dressings, vinegars, sauces, cheeses, coffee, and more. I ordered a slice of the savory tart, got a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, and a small bag of the Route 11 Habanero potato chips. We sat outside on the porch to eat our food (there is no seating inside). I should note that beer and wine is to go - you can't drink beer and wine on the premises, including the porch. While we were driving out - she told us the Washington Post recently ran a story about Locke Store in early October - so I looked it up after I got back: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/10/07/ST2008100701683.html Very cool and nice little place! Definitely worth a visit!

We saw the website for this place and read their online menus (which it appears they update daily) and really were interested in giving it a try. We drive from Stafford to get there, just over an hour. It was a BEAUTIFUL drive and the little village of Millwood, VA it picturesque! We got there around 2:30PM and some of the great items we saw on the daily menu were already all gone by then, but we gave some other items a try and REALLY enjoyed them! The freshness of the food, the obviously fresh and local veggies and the presentation and care in preparing the food made for a great dining experience. They have picnic tables outside if you want to eat there. You can also get the food to go. But what we did was go across the street to the BEAUTIFUL old mill, the Burwell Mill and there were several picnic tables there, right along a rapidly running, babbling brook and we ate there while listening to the water flowing and seeing the mill's waterfall in the distance - it was beautiful! We enjoyed it so much, we went back and bought a couple of their homemade cookies for dessert, they were AMAZING as well! Definitely worth a visit!!

Epic and great eating experience. Revelatory, highly recommended. Take it to go and walk across the street behind the mill.

Go for fresh sandwiches, soft cookies (ginger molasses) and scope out the excellent wine collection.

I've been going to this store for around 20 years. Great deli. Lots of cool grocery items you won't find elsewhere. Super staff.

This is a family business that started in the home kitchen. It is run by a woman who has a love for baking. With that in mind, I expected homestyle pastries, and that's what they provided. My wife and I tried 4 pastries. 1) Walnut Toffee Bar It had moderate sweetness, a light toffee flavor, and moderate walnut flavor. The bottom layer was a slightly sweet cookie type base that was moist and slightly chewy. It was topped with walnuts and toffee. More toffee flavor was needed, but this is great for lovers of walnuts. 2) Gooey Chewie Bar This was definitely gooey from lots of caramel in a chewy fudge like bar. It wasn't overly sweet. It had some pieces of nuts in it. The crisp crust on top was slightly sweet and had great texture. It was a simple dessert that was made well. 3) Blueberry Crumble It had a flaky croissant like pastry shell filled on top with blueberry jam and cream cheese. It looked like a danish. The cream cheese was smooth and light with a natural flavor. It was not sweet. Sweetness came from the blueberry jam. It had a good sweet fruit flavor that contrasted nicely with the slightly tangy cream cheese. The pastry shell was well-made. The exterior was flaky and crisp while the interior was light, airy, and slightly chewy. This dessert doesn't look pretty, but the flavors were well-matched and satisfying. 4) Cinnamon Roll with spiced cream cheese frosting The spices in the cream cheese were cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. The spices were subtle tasting, but there was enough to give the frosting flavor a hint of spiciness. The roll was soft, moist, and slightly tacky between the layers where the cinnamon was located. The spicy cinnamon was balanced with sweetness from the frosting and roll. Overall, the taste and texture were excellent. The service was helpful, polite, and quick. The store was very clean. They don't have restrooms, tables, or chairs for customers. They have cakes, slices of cake, cupcakes, muffins, quiches, brownies, scones, cookies, coffee, tea, and bottled water. Everything was reasonably priced. The pastries and cookies were not fancy or unique. There was no pastry chef level of presentations here. Everything looked homemade. The food here brings warm feelings of home cooking. They're a good place for comfort food.

Always amazing treats with the most helpful friendly staff. Creative, artistic, out of this world…read moreflavor. What more can you ask for?
