After a long time, I've finally decided to write this review. I got my first cat here. I had not…read moredone enough research. I visited them and didn't think enough. But recently it struck me, this is a kitty mill. Our cat Scottie is very cute, very beautiful, but she's not perfect; her nose is too short so there's some issue with her tear duct. She's always in tear and there's always some stain under one of her eyes. When we first got her, they gave a little bottle of eye drops and told us our cat has a mild infection, the drop would clear that. Nope. This tear duct thing is for life, though minor. Scottie also came to us with parasites and fleas. How could she have been infected? I suppose the adult cats were not well taken care of, and for that matter, I have to say that the cat smell was very strong as soon as the house door was open. Litter dust was everywhere, probably just except for the "nursery". After getting Scottie, I continued to look at their website on and off. They always have many cats available. Too many. And the birth dates indicate that there are just many litters in a short span of time. All the time. How could this be? Do they not care about the mother cats, just keep making them mate? Or do they buy cats from elsewhere and pretend they have bred them? The breeder who I got my dog from only had 2 litters over the last 1.5 years, this cat breeder had so many I lost count. The dog breeder wanted to make sure the dog would be well taken care of and leave when it is the right time, she wouldn't give the pup to us until after the pup was 3 months and she checked in on us twice. This cat breeder wanted us to take the cat the same day we saw her, told us the kitten could go with us at 2 months and never initiated contact once we paid and picked up the kitten. There are a lot of cute kittens for adoption. We adored our second cat. And I pledge to never buy another cat. Even if you really want a specific breed, please look for a breeder that at least seems ethical.

Tara emailed me back and we scheduled a time for me to come visit the shelter, which is not too far away from my apartment. Its located pretty close to McCarren Park. Anyway, i got there and was given a tour of all the cats (along with some recovering urban wildlife - like a possum!), with the opportunity to hold, hug, and play with each of the cats, to see who I was compatible with. I was instantly drawn to Steve, a 7-year-old handsome (in my eyes) gray fellow who had a funny stinkface, and a motorboat purr, who had sadly been in the shelter for a few months after his owner passed away. He wasn't that outgoing, but I found myself coming back to him at the end of the tour, and putting in an application for him. A few days later after checking with my references, Tara emailed to let me know that he was all mine, and they just had to take him back to the vet to give him the go-ahead. I wasn't sure how he, an adult cat, was going to react to being outside of a cage and living with a stranger in a new space. He was nervous and hid for about 2 weeks, but since, we have become BESTIES and his personality has blossomed into a totally new cat, a personality that didn't come through at the shelter, but that I'm so grateful to have in my companion. He is the best, and is proof that we should follow our gut, and that even after being stuck in a shelter, if given a loving, caring home and owner, your older cat with love you and thrive in his new environment. Tara and Empty Cages have been so helpful to me, a first time cat owner. I have followed up with them since when I needed to go to the vet for an eye infection, and they gave me great suggestions for Steve. Please support them! They are doing great things for animals and their new owners.

The entire process was pretty painless...filled out an online application, notified my personal references they would get a call, and then met up with Natalia who was fostering Whoopi. We brought our GP over the first time to see how they'd get along (which they did), and ended up picking up Whoopi for good a week later (we had to gather a few more items before bringing Whoopi home). Overall would highly recommend ECC, Natalia was a pleasure to work with, and you can tell how much she cares for and loves the animals she fosters.

He actually called my references which is more than some jobs I've applied for. Martin knew his cats personalities and was able to recommend a cat with a temperament that we were looking for. He was also super generous throughout the whole adoption process. He delivered our 'Henry' to us personally and brought a huge bag of litter, dry food, and wet food to get us started. Henry is loving, sweet, and very gentle just like Martin told us he was. I would adopt from Martin again in a heartbeat. FYI - I'm posting this review in Sept 2019, but adopted Henry in Feb 2019.

This cattery is really not a cattery. It is a lovely home with a lovely breeder who knows how important it is to breed healthy cats. They say the best things come in small packages. Getting kittens from a small cattery will ensure healthy happy kittens. My kittens were provided with love, good nutrition and vet care prior to me taking them home. I received photos and constant phone calls and texts from Rebekah so I could be part of my kittens development. Rebekah offered a personal transporter fir my convenience but I chose to drive my kittens home myself. I drove 490 miles round trip in one day and it was worth every mile to become the mom of BlueberryDolz Ragdolls kittens. I would give Rebekah a 20 star review if I could!
