Rude, dismissive, unhelpful, and unprofessional. Upon contacting Gotham they immediately sent me an email telling me "you do not currently have a market for you" [sic] and refused to assist me in any way, all because I filed a small sub-$10K renter's insurance claim several years ago after getting robbed. The entire reason you hire a broker is to navigate issues like this. Glad I was turned down, because if this is the standard of service they have for potential clients, I can only imagine how bad it is for their actual customers. FANTASTIC - was really wary of using a brokerage since I normally do everything myself, but it became clear really quickly that national insurance agencies do not know the NYC market and were seriously messing up my coverage needs for a condo purchase. Gotham Brokerage was spot on and in line with what I was finding in my more detailed research. Danny was my broker for my home owners insurance.He took yearly payments of 5000$ from me for 3 years in a row. I didn't know with a mortgage the mortgage company pays the yearly premium. I'm just going to echo many of the other comments here. Jeff is one of the most responsive service providers ever. Other insurance brokers aren't even in the same city, let alone ball park. For context, I contacted him the Friday afternoon before the 4th of July weekend, and I thought he would get back to me by the following Tuesday. Instead, he got back to me almost immediately, then worked with me all throughout the weekend via e-mail, including during the 4th itself! I had a Co-op homeowners policy with Chubb that was just too high for me so called Jeff at Gotham. He was able to get me substantially more coverage for a much lower deductible while saving me $200 a year on my premium. I had my previous policy cancelled and the new one activated within 2 hours of my quote. Jeff was super quick with getting me a quote and finalizing everything for me. I decided to do some work on the place, and after coordinating with a contractor and the co-op, I got the green light. Great. I just needed my proof of co-op insurance... With material manufacture deadlines, I needed co-op insurance yesterday. Luckily, I was given Jeff's contact info by a colleague. Review: Jeff responded super quick. Within a couple emails we had the perfect policy for my needs and we were ready to go (this was all end-of-business-day, by the way). Pretty normal stuff, same as other brokerages. My biggest complaint- I just called with a question about my policy renewal, it says HOMEOWNER in big letters on the top, I'm a renter. The woman who answered the phone said it was, however I wanted an email confirming that the policy I was buying was for renters as well. She insisted it was, and when I insisted on getting that email in writing, the woman got very short with me. No pleases, no thank yous, and an abrupt hang up. I got that email pretty promptly afterwards, so I did get what I wanted. TL;DR-- It wasn't AWFUL but it certainly wasn't stellar customer service. I got what I was looking for, but I was made to feel in the wrong for asking for it. read more

Shopping around for homeowners/apartment insurance in NYC, I phoned a few companies: Allstate, State Farm and Gotham Brokerage. The first two are direct insurers and they were fine and the rates were all comparable, but I found the service from Gotham to be MUCH better. In the first place, I was speaking from the the get-go with a seasoned insurance agent, not some random phone operator/sales drone. The agent I spoke to, Barry Frost, was very professional, knowledgeable and able to give me a quote without pumping me for all sorts of invasive personal information which the other companies demanded before I could even get the time of day from them! Originally, I had discovered Gotham through a web search and I found their blog to have some actually useful information: it was a true reflection of the kind of service they gave me - very professional, no-nonsense, easy-going, mature, intelligent and good value. I filled out the form on the Gotham Brokerage website requesting a quote and received a response from Jeff Schneider almost immediately. The email was detailed and gave me all the information I needed.
