Every time that I swing by to pick up my pull and any time that I walk through the door, I'm reminded why our local geek community loves Gotham City Limit so much. The energy is always high, the vibes are immaculate, and the staff keeps the shelves stocked with a ridiculous variety of comics, collectibles, action figures, FUNKO Pops, short boxes, supplies, and more. It's literally the kind of place where you can lose an hour without even realizing it. First off, say hello to Pacer, the AMAZING shop dog and official mascot of Gotham City Limit. He's the sweetest, the best greeter, and the best browsing buddy. Who doesn't want to shop with a good boy by your side? If you don't see Ben, you'll definitely hear his greeting from somewhere in the store as that man is just nonstop. Ben's dedication shows, especially on Free Comic Book Day and special release days, when Gotham City Limit turns into a full-blown celebration. On top of that, he partners with Jacksonville Public Library when they host comic-centered events and you'll see him at different conventions throughout the year. Ben makes sure everyone, from kids to hardcore collectors, feels welcome and included. Also big love to Jonathan (one of the OGs of comic shops in Jax) and Santana, who are always ready to talk storylines, their newest recommendations, or help you find the one issue that you didn't know you were missing. My pull list will ebb and flow depending on what is being released or if I want single issues of something. However, the numero uno items that I always want to see are the latest Baby Marvel covers from Skottie Young. The team has my account tagged for those specifically, and that kind of attention to detail is incredible. It's the kind of personal touch that makes you feel truly seen as a collector and fan. Gotham City Limit is a little slice of geeky heaven in Jax and one of the last remaining locally owned comic shops in this area of town. Gotham City Limit was the first comic book shop that I visited after moving to Jacksonville. I've had such amazing experiences since then that I have had no reason to try another. The shop is reasonably sized and packed with comics, action figures, collectibles, and also has two pinball machines. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the owner is charismatic and very welcoming to everyone. In terms of comics, they have just about anything you'd want from Marvel, DC, and Image to any reasonably popular indy along with plenty of variant covers. There's some back issues, but the focus is on newer and recent comics. Comics are organized in an... interesting fashion, but if you look over the giant new issue tables, racks on the wall, and their spinner racks, chances are that you'll find what they need. There's also wall of action figures and a couple cases of collectible statues. Lastly, they give a 10% discount on subscription books AND free bags and boards for subscribers. I've never encountered that before when visiting a comic book store, and I've patronized some fine establishments over the years. If you're in the Southside and are into comics/collectibles, you owe to yourself to try Gotham City Limit. This shop is hard to beat. read more

I received a Funko pop figure for Christmas from this store. I already had purchased the same item from the same store weeks before. I went into the store (1/19/2023) with the intention to exchange for another pop I had seen recently. Upon walking into the store I met the owner who quickly addressed me. Right off the back his demeanour and body language was negative. This was unusual as I've spoken to him several times before and everytime was pleasant. On this occasion however he seemed very annoyed and upset. He asked me what I wanted aggressively while eyeballing ng the Funko pop. I explained why I was in the store but while explaining myself he hugged and shrugged and expressed a lot on annoyance with the situation. He took the pop figure from me and told me I could exchange for another of equal value and pointed vaguely to the area where they were located. The interaction was aggressive, rude, short. I couldn't tell if he thought I stole the item or if he had a problem with me. Maybe he was having personal issues this day. But watching him interact with other customers I don't think that was the case as he was cordial and friendly with them. I couldn't find a pop figure I wanted. I went back to the register and asked for the pop back. Without discussion he gave me a $10 store voucher instead, without discussion. Only commenting he was getting out of the pop business. I took the voucher, not wanting to engage but leaving wondering if it was equal to the value of the gift even though he told me the figures I could exchange for were $11.99. First off, this is an unacceptable unprofessional interaction with a customer. I choose to come to your small business and support you. I choose to give repeat business. There is a comic store a mile away I don't shop mostly for the reason it's a franchise and have always preferred the vibe of the smaller stores. If you are upset, having a bad day, questioning the authenticity of the purchase, have an issue with pop figures you don't pass that on to the customers. You don't make them feel small in front of others. Or piss them off to the point where they have to waste their time writing a review online. I don't want an apology. I don't want to give another chance to this store. I will not be shopping here again. Ever. I will take my business to mystic mountain on San Jose or cosmic comics on Old St Augustine. Warning, if you come here and the owner attempts to tell you how he's your friend. How cool he is. That he doesn't do this for the money. Etc. Consider that no matter what he has a lease. He borrows from a bank he owes to. This is a business. He needs you as a customer. He has the ability to give discounts and to help you, be polite. But he also has the right to do the exact opposite. Point being I went in there today assuming he was gonna be as easy and nice as normal. That like any business exchanging an item was a standard practice that would not be a problem. Or if there was a policy opposite that quickly informing me as such would be the end of it. But this bad attitude unprofessional crapping on the customer experience lost you business for good. Don't offer an explanation or ask to reach out. I'm not interested in discussing this further. Work on your customer service for the next time. This is the best comic store in Jacksonville! They have an amazing selection for new comics (back issues not so much but whatever). They almost always have whatever newer comic I'm looking for even if it's hot or a spec book. Ben K is incapable of being in a bad mood. He is forever energetic, enthusiastic and goes above and beyond to help! Pacer, the Amazing Shop Dog is an absolute pleasure to be around. I love to give his friendly head a scratch whenever he comes around. Ben runs sales for all of the comic book holidays and regular holidays. He makes the place fun! His staff is always fantastic as well! I moved away a couple months ago but still order stuff from Gotham through the mail. These guys are great! The best comic shop on the Southside of Jax. Ben is a great dude. He had been pulling a limited run of a comic since December 2019 for me and the last issue came out right at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. He called me in May to let me know that they'd reopened and he had my issues. I usually work right next to them and could pick it up on the way home, but I've been working from home since March and haven't been that direction in months. I figured he'd just put them out to be sold and I'd miss out. I got another call in AUGUST and he was still holding them for me. I came out the very next day. Awesome shop! I just moved to the area and was on the hunt for my new go-to comic book shop. Well, I found it! The selection is truly amazing. I was really impressed to find, not only the newest release of the title I was looking for, but also the previous issue that has been sold out everywhere else I had gone. Wow! This was my first time at the new shop and all I can say is how incredible it was. It's well decorated, it's well-stocked the owner is super nice. He went and bought out the ownership and moved the store down the street. To say this was different than the old store and management is a huge understatement.
