I've been married for 19 years, and throughout those years, our bedroom has never been large enough for my husband and I to both have nightstands. We finally decided to do a complete to the studs remodel, and that meant expanding our bedroom size dramatically. My nightstand deficient husband would finally get one of his own. We decided to embark on what we thought was the simple task of picking nightstands. So we looked and we looked, and I mean really looked at both brick and mortars and the deepest corners of the web. I had no idea that you could spend weeks looking at nightstands, but we did. We looked at so many damn nightstands that I'm pretty sure I started dreaming about the things. We finally agreed on a gorgeous, clean lined, American made nightstand made by Gothic. We ordered two, and patiently waited the 8-10 weeks that we knew up front it would take to get them. Two weeks before we thought we would get them, we got an alert letting us know they were on there way! Yay nightstands! The package arrived, and the product was even more beautiful in real life, and even better crafted than expected. But....only one arrived. Fed ex lost the other one someone in transit. We tried for a week to locate it, but Fed ex decided they had no more resources to provide to my sad and lost nightstand, and I would have to order another. I told my husband that it was his nightstand that was lost of course (I guess I'm a little selfish about my nightstands). He resigned himself to a life without a nightstand. Fed ex told us to order another, but the thought of waiting another 8-10 weeks was disappointing, as our house will finally be done after 6 months of construction next week. I figured what the heck, maybe if I call and beg, or offer to pay a little more for a rush, or maybe cried, than it would be possible to get it a little sooner. After 6 months of living in the spare bedroom in the basement with 3 dogs, and using my garage as a living room, my dignity was already a tad compromised. But...this is the part that sets a great company apart from a good company. I called and spoke to a gem of man named Steve, who was already on top of it! He already knew of the woes of the lost nightstand, and he wouldn't accept another penny from me, rushed my production date, and couldn't have been kinder or warmer about the process. When things go right, it's easy. It's only when things go a little sideways that companies and the humans that work in them show what true customer service means. I wish more companies had more Steve's in them, and cared so much about their customers. So 6 stars if I could give them - wonderful quality products, fantastic people that sell them, and my husband is getting his nightstand. Can't wait to buy more things from Gothic! read more

Furniture pieces are built to last generations! We purchased our kitchen nook in 2014, custom made and stained to match our kitchen. The table has not only served meals, but has been in the center of endless school projects and HW, birthday cakes and celebrations. I actually have a great experience with Gothic Cabinet this is my third time purchasing from them. I could sit here and honestly say it will last a lifetime. I usually have viewed what I wanted from online then purchase via phone. This time I decided to come into the showroom. Usually, you walk into places and they hover over you, but I loved the fact that I was able to peacefully look through the whole place while randomly asking questions. Shoutout to Steve M. who took care of my order. Thank goodness for his patience because I sure do ask questions, I think I changed my order 3 times within 20 minutes. If you on the fence or know what you really want this place is it long lasting wood. I have cabinets and storage beds that I have over 10 years and know that I can use as future benches or stackable drawers. I personally have ordered custom and regular orders. Very high quality product (and life-time warranty) as with anything you'd have to use it to find out how good it is though. There was one area in the bookshelf that looks almost like a crack (just an imperfection in the wood) but it doesn't seem like something that is going to break or be an issue and isn't all that noticeable unless you are inspecting it as we did when it arrived. Customer service was not that great. Hard to get ahold of and one time I even got a full voicemail box so I was unable to leave a call back message. When I was able to leave a voicemail I often would not get a return call but had to call back again. I did not feel the customer service was going out of their way to assist me and while they answered my questions etc I didn't get the feeling they were overly eager to assist me. I was told a ship date after requesting an estimate, the date came and went and I called them to confirm the progress as this was not a cheap purchase and shipping cross country. They told me it was packaging and it still took several days to get a shipping confirmation but still not too big a deal unless you are hoping for a quick delivery with a friendly call when things are off schedule. I also understand they are staining and building a rather large frame so I tried to give the benefit of the doubt but my patience was growing thin by the time the unit finally shipped. Over-All I'm happy with the product and would recommend this company. Just don't expect the worlds finest customer service. Good quality product and fair price. read more

I ordered a simple wooden bench on November 1st. I called several times to check on the status of my order. Today (Feb 19) I revived an email that my order was cancelled. I revived no explanation as to why they were unable to fulfill the order. The customer service is awful, and almost 4 months, they cancelled the order. read more

Went to the Maspeth location on a Sunday. Once we entered the guy at the counter didn't ask if we needed anything or even say anything to us, but that's fine. The whole place stunk of cigarette smoke - like as if he was smoking and walking around the store!! I'm not sensitive to the smell of smoke but my God it was disgusting in this small store front. We left a few minutes later because we couldn't take the smell. And why buy furniture that is just going to smell like smoke?? Steve at the Maspeth location was beyond helpful and super awesome in helping us choose our entire bedroom set, dining room set and bookcase. It took us several months to finally close on a new home and we met with Steve on several occasions throughout that time. He was never pushy, but always available to answer our numerous questions. He spent at least an hour with us each time we went and we couldn't have done this without him. We look forward to getting our new furniture delivered and have plans to work with him again later this year on some other purchases. Highly recommended! read more

Went in to ask about a bed that I was willing to buy on the spot but I was kicked out thirty minutes before closing time because the guy running the store had no intention in helping me out but just wanted to get out. He was rude untrained and showed no interest in helping me out. It's really annoying having to deal with people like that when you are about to give that company some business. My son and his half brother were about 4 yrs old when I bought the furniture and 17 when we got rid of it. It lasted all of those years in great shape. I recently bought several pieces of furniture that custom fit exactly what I needed. Customer service is lacking depending on the store. I searched high and low for a storage bed I liked and which would fit into my condo, and this New York company was the only place that had one. I rented a truck and drove from Washington, D.C. to New York to pick up furniture from these guys! I bought a storage bed, chest of drawers, 2 bookshelves, a desk, a chair and a footstool. I had them all stained dark teak. The furniture is BEAUTIFUL. They did a fantastic job with it, had it ready when planned, and wrapped everything really carefully for its long ride to DC. Prices were reasonable (I was lucky to have caught their anniversary sale), and this furniture looks like it will last forever. I'd agree with the customer who said they're a tad hard to reach by phone or email, but these guys are carpenters -- probably don't spend much time online. And if you're persistent, you can reach them. Anyway, highly recommend!!! read more

I found this company on line. They were the only company that had an extra long twin in real wood with storage. Their website stated 4-6 weeks for the custom bed. It took twice that long (about 2 1/2 months to arrive). This meant my son was sleeping on a mattress on the floor for around two months. The bed itself was so long that we had to take apart a window to fit it into the house. I consider this a poorly planned out design to construct a bed that cannot fit through a normal door jam. the bed itself is functional and the storage and drawers are great. the large cabinet in the middle allows for my son to store his larger items that we never knew what to do with before. however there are parts of the bed that were not sanded smooth. there are also a few spots where you can see the stain pooled. one of the drawers was attached at an angle so it works fine but looks off. the headboard came without any predrilled holes or directions on how to attach it. I called the company and they were not helpful. The guy on the phone had to put me on hold for each question I asked. There as no offer to give me compensation for their mistakes or product defects. I would suggest to NEVER order anything from this company over the internet. I would only purchase something from the store if you can see the product in the store and take it home the same day. read more

We were very pleased with Gothic Furniture, Maspeth location. We ordered several made to order custom closets and bookcases for our son's bedroom. Steve worked with us from start to finish. We asked for special door handles and to cut off molding from bookcase edges. We live in a building with strict delivery regulations, so we were stressed out about the timing of the delivery. We told Steve we needed a COI (Certificate of Insurance) and delivery M-F, from 9am-3pm. He placed the order for us and we set up a tentative delivery date. We received the COI by email, as promised by Steve, in a few days. To our surprise, our order was even ready a whole month sooner than Steve promised, but we could not change our delivery date because the elevator in our building was out of service, being repaired at that time. The delivery service called us three days ahead of our scheduled delivery date and promised us a morning delivery, which eased our stress about the building not allowing in a late delivery. The delivery arrived bright and early in the morning and the furniture delivery people were careful and polite. The furniture was made exactly as we had specified, looks great, and we are very pleased. We'd definitely recommend Gothic Furniture and I am sure we'll be back again to get more items when we need them. read more

Let me say up front there's nothing wrong with the chairs themselves--the product is fine. I'm complaining about a delivery and customer service fiasco. We ordered a set of kitchen chairs. The website said delivery in 8-12 weeks. We ordered, and they charged the complete amount on our card immediately. They delivered 2 weeks after the end of that period, with no explanation or apology. The delivery team opened the chairs in the hallway, asked to borrow a hammer, and proceeded to try to hammer in the floor protectors to the bottoms of the legs. They then informed us that there were two floor protectors missing, and that we should call customer service. After they left, we discovered that they had hammered in five of the 18 floor protectors so badly that the nails had bent, the chairs were not even close to level, and the floor protectors came out easily. (Think about this--to do this once is a staggering level of ineptitude. To do it FIVE TIMES is an awe-inspiring display of apathy.) We called customer service, who told us the best he could do was mail us another set of floor protectors--no mention of sending someone to remedy the first teams' mistake, and no mention of Fedex or a courier if the best they could do was send us the materials to finish the job. Finally, the rep told us they would send the driver back later that afternoon "to take pictures." The driver never showed, and we never heard back from customer service. I was able to determine the appropriate brand of floor protectors, purchase them myself, and salvage our expensive and long-awaited chairs. But I'm not ever doing business with this company again. read more
