If you're as lost as I was, find yourself a Jhoanna. Or better yet--ask my friend. They're a gem.

Where do I begin? To…read moresay my experience with this broker has been frustrating would be an understatement. I was originally enrolled in my health insurance through her back in 2017 by my former partner. After our separation, I needed to explore more affordable options since my financial situation had changed. Naturally, I contacted my insurance provider, Anthem, directly to discuss cancelling or modifying my plan. To my surprise, I was told I could not make changes through them and would need to go through my broker. That's where the difficulty began. When I attempted to contact Ms. Gordon, I was met with a voicemail stating that I needed to provide my credit card information just to speak with her. She would not answer questions via email or text--only through a paid phone consultation. This immediately raised concerns for me. I was trying to cancel my plan and transition to a different provider, Kaiser Permanente, and did not feel comfortable sharing my credit card information in that situation. Given today's environment, I believe it's reasonable to be cautious about providing sensitive financial information--especially when I was not trying to make a payment, but simply cancel a service. Interestingly, my former partner--who originally set up the policy--confirmed he was never required to provide credit card information just to communicate. It seemed that once my intent to cancel became clear, the process became significantly more difficult. Eventually, after I informed her that I had already secured new coverage independently, she reached out to me. During that conversation, she attempted to get me to state that she had enrolled me in the new plan, which I declined. At that point, I had deliberately chosen not to work with a broker due to how complicated the cancellation process had been. To be fair, when I spoke directly with Anthem, they were helpful--until they realized I had originally signed up through a broker. That experience made it clear to me that consumers can enroll directly with insurance providers and may have more control by doing so. In hindsight, it felt as though there was little incentive to assist me in cancelling, especially given that brokers often earn commissions tied to active policies. Whether intentional or not, the process felt unnecessarily obstructive. I'm sharing this experience as a caution to others: if you work through a broker, your insurance provider may direct you back to them for support--even for basic account changes or cancellations. That can create an added layer of difficulty when you're trying to make decisions about your own coverage. As a client for over seven years, I expected clearer communication and more flexibility--especially during a time when I needed to make a change. At the very least, alternative ways to communicate (email, basic support, or a receptionist) would have made a significant difference. Due to this experience, I plan to file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance so the situation can be reviewed.

I would look straight ahead and then to my left. Once the white car passed that was signaling right the whole time as if to enter the freeway. The lady in front let go of the brakes and moved about 4 feet forward. That's when it happen. Not realizing that she was still inching forward and stopping. I hit her on the back. Still she did not move. Traffic was backing up behind us. I knew she was frozen, so I hit my blinkers and slowly moved back enough to get me to get in front of her. I signaled and waved and yelled for her to follow me so we could exchange information. After what seem an unnecessary long time I got her to follow me into an industrial parking lot. I parked my car in a parking space and she pulled her car forward. She wouldn't get out and I finally walked over to her to ask her if she was ok. All the while I noticed the tiny dent that I had caused to her car. So small it looked like a dimple. First thing she said was "were you the one in the white car". Hah? She was confused the white car was the one we were trying to avoid hitting us. I asked if she was ok . Time passed an she didn't answer my question if she was alright. Finally she got out of the car and looked at me very confused. I asked her again " Are you ok, do you need an ambulance. Finally she answered. "Yea I am ok" not once asking me if I was ok. I pulled out my registration, insurance card and License. She didn't do the same until I finally told her to do the same and we could take pictures of each others info. After hesitating for a while she finally spoke up and said " I need to call my husband. She went back to her car to wait and I did as well. Soon he arrived to access both cars. I pointed out that her car was very strong and well made. " he said that's a Volvo for you" He went over to see the front of my car. He said " whoa you really got it good". That was a true statement. My front end had hit hers to the left and her incredibly strong car hit me dead center and tore up my rubber front end and pushed in my right headlight. My car being a 2009 I only had liability. In the meantime he was adamant to get a police report. I said to him Police won't come out if everyone evolved is ok and doesn't need an ambulance. He stepped away and proceeded to call police . The policeman talked to both of us. He asked us both are you ok and did you exchange numbers and insurance. I said yes and just about when she was going to speak he interrupted her and said to the police. "We would like to get a police report " The police said it's not necessary if no one is injured. The husband said well that's why we want you to come out and give us a report. The policeman said ok, but this is not necessary. After an hour a policeman arrived . So far we were more than two hours into it. The Policeman looked at both cars , asked if we had exchanged info. I told him I had her take pictures of mine but she hasn't given me hers. He told her you need to give out your info. The policeman proceeds to get in his car , when the husband runs to stop the cop from taking off and said . " Can you send an ambulance over to check my wife I think she is having a sore neck ". I never felt so alone in my life. The cop said "No it's not necessary since she seems ok and she said she is ok. Ok , but, but can you come look at where it happened ". The policeman said ok? But real quick. We followed the husband, the wife , the cop and me in that order walking in a straight line. I felt so bad for the policeman. He said Ok, " so what do you want me to do about it. The insurance will take care of that ". He turns around and did a fast walk to his car. The husband proceeds to call another jurisdiction. Turns out it was signal hill highway Patrol. They looked at her and said . Sorry this isn't our jurisdiction. Once they left he proceeds to say . "We really need to get a Police report" Whats to say she won't take the blame. It's now 3 1/2 hour in 90 degrees. After he said he was calling another jurisdiction. I said that's it I'm going home you got my info. Finally after about two months, I get a call from the insurance telling me that they would be raising my insurance rates. I asked them how much did she claim. They told me that they do not give the claimants information out. So it wasn't until earlier this year when I went to seek another insurance that I was told how much they claimed. My car was a total of 5,000 in repair and paint. All out of pocket. They claimed $14,000! Guess once I was gone he told her to act like she was in pain. Guess I should have hung around for the police report he wanted so bad.
