I'll discuss that first because until the company fixes this issue, it will lead to the same problem for other as we experienced. Here's the problem: when you book the tour, it tells you to meet the tour guide in the lobby of The View Hotel. On the website before booking, it says "Please meet your guide in the lobby of the View Hotel next to the bronze statue of a cowboy riding a horse." In the email confirmation, it says "Your tour guide will pick you up at the beautiful View Hotel lobby!" Pretty clear, right? We're supposed to meet the tour guide in the lobby. No ambiguity here. We arrived in the lobby a full 15 minutes ahead of our 9:00am pickup - we were warned that the tour would leave precisely on time. 9:00 came and went with no sign of the tour guide or his vehicle. I call the office and get voicemail, but don't leave a message. A minute later I get a text message from their bot inviting me to start a conversation. I explain the problem, and get another automatically-generated response: "Thanks for letting me know! I'll check with our team and get back to you shortly." Over the next 10 minutes I send a couple more clarification messages, and receive no response at all. So we're starting to fret. We have a flight to catch later in the day, so if we miss this tour we won't have an opportunity to rebook. Then after a few minutes, a tour guide from a _different_ company comes in, sees us, and says that the meeting point for tours is outside. We walk out of the hotel lobby, and don't see anything at all, because the tour pickup point is across the parking lot and down a hill, completely out of view from the hotel entrance. We walk down, arriving 10 minutes after the "prompt" departure time, and join our tour. We could have completely missed our tour because of the company's inability to maintain an accurate website. But we lucked out today. The company never called or texted back to provide us with updated instructions about where to meet, and the tour guide didn't attempt to find us either. We are grateful to the guide from the different company who made sure we got on the tour. So, this could easily be a 2-star or worse review for this experience. But the fact of the matter is that the tour was really great once we got started. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. He gave us recommendations about where to take pictures and took a couple creative ones for us. He shared Navajo history, mythology, and his own personal experiences growing up in the Navajo nation. We saw some beautiful scenery which left us wanting more.

Holy smokes, we were unprepared for how amazing this place was! I had tried without luck to find a…read morehotel a few hours from the Grand Canyon, to get closer to Denver. I found this through the national Parks site, had to rank several choices and wait to hear back, so I didn't remember which one we chose or anything about it. After driving three hours through barren desert, Goulding's Lodge was like an oasis! The setting is absolutely stunning. It was other worldly and familiar at the same time, because the old westerns were filmed here! The staff was friendly and peppy. The cabin was clean, relatively new, and complete with a kitchen. The restaurant was quaint and vintage. The best part was the bonfire that the staff built for us! Sitting around stargazing was so memorable with our kids. We were all sad that it was a quick stop, but said we would love to come back to stay longer! If you're used to four or five star places, maybe you won't be impressed. But in context for the area it was pretty great! Also has laundry, on site grocery and gas. We went home and watched John Wayne in Stagecoach, and vowed we would go back!

Shawn also had an incredible eye for photography. He took us to breathtaking locations and helped capture some of the most unforgettable photos our family will ever have. The first full day we toured Monument Valley from before sunrise until after sunset, going to various points of interest. I was exhausted but got some incredible shots! The next day two friends and I left with Ray to go on an overnight trip up to Hunts Mesa to shoot sunset and sunrise pictures of Monument Valley from that point of view. Not only did Ray put us in some amazing locations, but the food that he made, both dinner and breakfast were wonderful. I really can't recommend Ray Begay more highly. We just finished a great tour of the Monument Valley with Amory of Mitten View Tours. We spent…read moreyesterday on our own checking out the front section of the valley and loved it (did the 17 mile loop twice). Today we elected to do a guided tour so we could see areas closed unless you have a guide. We were particularly interested in learning more about Navajo Culture. Our guide Amory was great. He interspersed bits and pieces of his own experiences with details of Navajo history and practices. We learned of the days of his youth - herding sheep and goats, as well as tales of how the Navajo people communicate their culture and values to children. He has a great eye for photogenic opportunities and taught us some clever tricks to use with our iPhones. The front of the park, where you can do a self guided tour is phenomenal. You can easily spend four to eight hours taking in the unique geological formations. But, you can't see some of the truly amazing sites deeper in the park unless you hire a guide. (I'll attach photos of Big Hogan, Ear of the Gods, and a few other spots only viewable with a guide.)

We enjoyed tremendous views of Monument Valley as well as interesting and thoughtful stories and explanations of how this area holds deep meaning to the Navajo. Our group was small, and our leaders were patient, funny, and helpful for those of us with next to no horseback riding experience. My husband, who can be difficult to impress, was awestruck by the views and the perspective that comes only with being on a trail, not in a vehicle. If you go, bring a full water bottle and cash for tipping, plus remember to wear your sunscreen and a hat. Special thanks also to Mack and Sideburns, our trusty steeds! We had a little trouble locating the starting point at the stables -- we thought we were supposed to park in the Navajo Visitor Center parking lot and check in at the tour booth at the far end of the parking lot. Turns out that tour booth is for vehicle tours. The folks there advised us to drive down a short gravel road next to the visitor center and park next to the stables that we could see in the distance. Easy enough, but this could have been clearer in the directions; a simple map or drawing would have been very helpful. We also didn't realize we'd have to pay a $10 per person entry fee to the Visitor Center parking lot before even getting to the stables. Maybe that was mentioned in the instructions and I just missed it? Either way, not a deal-breaker for us.

We booked a horseback ride with this company and paid in advance for three people. Considering the…read morehigh price of the experience, we expected a professional service and horses in good working condition. We are experienced horse owners and have worked around horses for many years. Immediately after mounting, we noticed that one of the horses was clearly lame and showing obvious signs of discomfort. The horse appeared unwilling to move forward comfortably and displayed postural signs that, in our experience, indicated pain or significant discomfort. For both safety and animal welfare reasons, we decided to stop the activity immediately. We dismounted after approximately 30 seconds and never even left the ranch. We politely requested a refund since the horseback ride was never actually carried out. Unfortunately, our request was refused. What disappointed us most was the way the situation was handled. During our discussion and subsequent phone conversation, the manager became extremely aggressive, raised his voice, and showed no willingness to discuss a fair solution despite the fact that the ride never took place. This review reflects our personal experience. Charging customers for a horseback ride that lasted less than a minute, while refusing any refund and responding aggressively, is not what we expected from a professional horseback riding operation.

We pulled in and were shocked when they told us the one night rate was $90. A month ago at Gouldings RV park we only paid $60 per night. Last week when we stayed in a Luxury RV Park near Prescott and paid only $74 per night and had a hot tub & swimming pool and paved streets. This park is new and the landscaping is young and the place is clean. KOA's are out go to RV stops because they are always reasonable and we've always been treated well. From now on we will stay at Gouldings when in Monument Valley. Their park is in a much nicer location with great views and hiking.

The night sky is overwhelmingly gorgeous, and I can't remember lovelier stars than here. If only Van Gogh had visited. As it's the desert, the summer is overwhelmingly hot. The sun will attack you if you don't pay attention! It's Mario Bros 3, and the angry sun is swooping down everywhere. Also, the flies that come with the horses next door visit often, but we kept them at bay with our fan and fly swatters, and the scenery won out over the flies. The horses next door are a separate business but were actually great, and conveniently you can book different rides times right from the camp store. The bathhouses were sparkling, the laundry was conveniently next door. The bathhouse/laundry lighting was clever enough to be visible yet not detract from the stars. The camp store had practical and souvenir goods, and the staff were helpful. What a gorgeous spot. We'd come back again.

I booked a non-private tour but I coincidentally ended up being the only person so it was very nice! Frank talked not just about the landscape and scenery, but the history about the Diné people and how they come to the area in the first place. We toured arches, petroglyphs and pictographs made by the people who lived in this area before. They park is very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. There is so much on the premises. A hotel, pool, gift shop, RV supply spot, restaurant, museum, excellent landscape viewing areas, hiking trails, the list goes on... The scenery is fantastic as you are surrounded by beautiful towering red rocks on all sides. I did a separate review of the restaurant which was unique and deli.
