Our Navajo Guide in Monument Valley July 2nd, 2022 Today, my wife and I reserved seats for two-and-a-half hours with Three Sisters Navajo Guided Tours. In a word, it was marvelous. Yet how can one word describe our experience, any more than saying, "We've been to Monument Valley." To truly experience the landscape, one has to be immersed in its majesty; digest and embrace the magical spirit of its stark beauty; breathe in the fresh clear fragrance of the surroundings... while respecting the sacred land of the Navajo. We are there by invitation. Our guide was a Navajo who grew up in the area and whose family still lives here; yes, he lives here. In fact, his brother was born the same month and year my wife and I were married. During each stop, he walked with us while carefully pointing out each rock formation, and why it had been given that name. The landscape is dynamic; colors change with the time of day and the weather... they are deepened and enriched... shadows heighten the dimension and form. We stopped at a hogan and he explained features of the design, how and why it was built, and the woman demonstrated how they spun wool, how it was dyed, and gave examples of what she had made. The time we shared was over before we realized what time it was. We parted with our Navajo guide with a heightened our awareness; he enriched our education; we left as friends, with a greater understanding and respect for one another. We are anxious to return with friends and our family. There was always a picture around each bend in the road. We are leaving with indelible images on our mind. What a TOUR! I can't say enough good things about this operation! From the minute I contacted Three Sisters inquiring about what is entailed in a day long tour thru Mystery Valley and Monument Valley, to the follow-up emails with contact info the days before, and then the tour itself. First class. The full day tour is the only way to go. Mystery Valley is the hidden gem in the trip! No crowds, complete solitude, and incredible scenery! If you are a photographer you should reach out and request Jimbo! That man was unreal! He loves photography and was always looking for the perfect shots for us. We still continue to talk about our trip with Jimbo and his influence. He gave us so much insight on the Dine culture (past and present) and his appreciation for the land was infectious! Everything about the Three Sisters Navajo Guided Tour in Monument Valley felt as though it was done in respect of the Navajo culture. Emery greeted us and recited much of the history of the area, as well as shared some of his own family's background history. He touched my heart with stories of his grandmother's influence on the family. Queenia took over as our tour guide for what turned out to be our private tour. She was full of information for each of the amazing rock formations and pointed out the many things that she had learned, through conversations with us, would be especially interesting to us. She also shared stories of her family's history in the area, and told us a little about herself and her lovely family as well. These tours are great, they do run quite long so be sure to pack a little lunch and something to drink to have before or after the tour on the grounds. Don't miss the museum in the visitor's center, and the rest rooms are in the gift shop. Well worth the time, enjoy! read more

Our tour was private conducted by Helen and it was fantastic. Helen was wonderful and filled us in on so many details about the many rock formations we saw during the tour. She took us on the 17 mile tour as well as into a more private area with some remarkable formations. As a movie buff, I was pleased to see John Ford's Point, and we were pleased to see the Hogan area and the older lady who had just finished weaving a rug. All of the sights we saw were wonderful, and to tour around the bottom of the monuments that towered 400 to 1000 feet above us was overwhelming. One monument that stood out was dedicated to the Navajo Code Talkers, whose code the Japanese could never figure out and was used by the US Armed Forces in the Pacific Theater of World War Two. To conclude, please take a tour with Three Sisters and with Helen. Finally, I note that Helen was most helpful with my wife who is disabled. She was there to help Kathy, my wife, every time she got in and out of the vehicle. read more

What a great way to see Monument Valley! My wife, my 18 year-old daughter and I took the half-day tour on July 10, 2021. Our guide, Queena, started the tour with some of the most well-known buttes and mesas, but then took us into the restricted "back country," into areas of the valley do-it-yourself tourists can't go. We saw a lot of amazing scenery, a few arches, some ancient petroglyphs and had ample opportunity to take photos. Queena was terrific! She shared some of the history of the valley and of the Navajo people, how they live, how closely tied to nature they are as a people. And to hear all this while viewing the buttes and the Mesas, was the perfect combination of scenery and history. She was patient as we took pictures, asked questions and just marveled at the scenery. This is the best way to see Monument Valley. We highly recommend the Three Sisters Navajo Guided Tours, and we we're lucky to get Queena as our guide! read more

We booked both a sunset and sunrise tour with Three Sisters in Monument Valley as we wanted to work with a local company.  We lucked out in getting Amory as our guide for both tours.  He is a great guide! Amory is friendly and engaging, and as a local resident, has vast knowledge of the area.  He shared first hand information regarding the customs, beliefs and history of the people on the reservation, answering all of our questions, often punctuating with personal anecdotes.  One of our main goals was to get great photos, and Amory went above and beyond by finding the best spots from which to take pictures.  He took fun photos of us as well.  We will always have great memories (and photos) of our time in Monument Valley.  Thanks Amory! Small suggestion:  work on confirmation and instruction communication - sending time/date, pick up location and contact information via email would be helpful. read more

My mom and I were doing a road trip through Arizona and New Mexico, and this was the first stop on our journey. While en route, I called TSNGT to ensure we had the correct location set in our GPS. The person I spoke to was very helpful, and we found the spot with ease. When our tour was about to begin, I got a phone call back from the same person making sure we found our way okay! Our tour guide, Helen, was excellent. She took us around the beautiful Monument Valley, shared information about each rock formation and location, and allowed us ample time to soak in the views and take photos. Helen's experience and willingness to share gave the tour an appreciated personal touch. At one stop, there was a stand selling tasty Navajo frybread, and we met the owner of TSNGT, Shannon, who was friendly and kind as well. This tour is worth it! I booked the 2.5 hour private tour so that we could see the back country - where we would not have been allowed to drive our Jeep. At the time of booking, I didn't realize that I had a choice of open "safari" vehicle or closed vehicle. The morning of our tour, I called the office to ask about a closed car - I was having allergies problems, and the wind and dust were not helping (our visit was April 28, 2022). With an hour's notice, they found us a closed vehicle and great driver: Queena Hardy! She was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to stop so we could take photos and walk around permitted areas. A big PLUS for this company is that they are Navajo owned and operated; not all of them are. We both enjoyed Queena and the tour and highly recommend booking with them! read more

We booked the Sunset tour in mid April. We met our guide Jim at the tour kiosk in the parking lot of the Navajo Visitors Center. He was welcoming and escorted us to his 4 wheel drive vehicle. He began by pointing out some of the closest monuments and naming them. He stopped frequently to give us photo opportunities and several times took my husband's iPhone and captured some very impressive photos. At one of the monuments, he brought out his drum and sang and played the drum for us. He shared stories of living on the Navajo reservation and gave us insight into his personal life. We also stopped at an area that had trinkets for sale. While the clouds obscured a true sunset, we were very impressed with our tour and with Jim as our tour guide. read more

Carol was our guide for the full day tour of Monument Valley. She was knowledgeable and friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we saw and learned as much as possible about the monuments and the Navajo culture. She tried to teach us some Navajo words, took us to visit a hogan where we watched wool being spun and a rug being woven. She told us how the hogans are built and why they face to the east. We went in areas where private autos are not allowed, so we felt that we had "inside" info! We stopped to buy our take-out lunches and went to a picnic area where we had a chance to chat with her and ask lots of questions. She offered to take photos of us and knew just the right spots for great photos! It was a great day! Thank you Carol! read more

Vern, a most excellent conversationalist and guide, took me on a four-hour early morning tour of Monument Valley in late May. I wanted to photograph the Valley at dawn, and he took me to several locations to catch the light, patiently waiting while I got the shots I wanted. In between photographs, he told me quite a lot about Navajo life, traditions, and his personal experiences. Seeing the park alongside Navajo eyes added life and context to what would otherwise be a beautiful but disconnected view. Also, Cory, who handles booking, was delightfully helpful, answering all of my questions with clarity and kindness. I highly recommend using this Navajo-owned company when you visit the park. The Three Sister Navajo half day guided tour was well worth the money. Carol was an excellent guide. She was very friendly, thorough and provided a significant amount of historical information about the monuments. Carol is a Navajo native and knew of hidden gems and brought us into sections private vehicles weren't allowed. Carol also provided her expertise photography skills and helped us capture the true beauty of the land as well as providing us with memorable photographs together. During this tour we were able to see much wildlife. I highly recommend this tour and Carol as a tour guide. So glad we took advantage of this tour. Purchasing directly through Three Sister Navajo guided tours site was cheaper than third party sites. read more

My Thai wife and I stayed at The View Hotel on Nov. 3 & 4. We arrived after dark and were hopeful to have a private tour the next day but we did not have a tour scheduled. That evening, I called Three Sisters Tours and Shannon promptly answered my phone call. She was very helpful and guided me through the online booking process. We booked a full day private tour and our guide was Carol. We met Carol the next morning and had a very informative and fun day with her. The tour was priceless! What we appreciated the most was Carol sharing her own life story fitting it into the tour perfectly! I got tickled more than once as my Thai wife and Carol shared cultural histories. Monument Valley has been a dream of mine to visit since I was a kid watching cowboy movies. At 67, it was about time to go see it. And of course it was better than I had expected. The varied formations were absolutely beautiful. To a big part, our tour guide made it that much more interesting. Queena explained her Navajo lifestyle - the pluses and the minuses. She showed up her favorite places from her childhood. She helped us see the Valley from her point of view. Her style is informal and very personal. It does not feel as though she has memorized a script. I recommend that you ask for Queena as your own guide. Pay a few extra dollars and make it a private tour. read more

We happen to meet Shannon, the owner, at her store in front of the Three Sisters monument. Asked her about scheduling a private tour for the next morning through the back country at Monument Valley. It was no problem. Virgil took us on the tour and had a great time. Took us to all the sites, told us the history of the different rock formations, met a local Navajo woman who makes the most beautiful all hand made rugs we ever saw and pictographs at several locations. Virgil even stopped at places to take pictures at famous locations, it was awesome. When we go to Monument Valley again, we will be using Three Sisters Tours again. We booked the 2.5 hour tour. Our guide (Amory) was great. He was very friendly and shared many anecdotes that made the experience special. He kindly took many great photos so we won't ever forget it! It can be hard to pick a tour out of so many providers, and I was glad to know that this company is owned by someone who actually lives in the valley. We didn't do much research before coming (except to know we wouldn't make it through with my little car), so I didn't realize there are shops within Monument Valley (past the visitor center). We didn't have our wallets and I really wanted to buy something - so bring your wallet just in case you find a perfect gift! read more

Queena was a great guide! She took time to explain everything about the formations in Monument Valley. There were only 4 of us on the tour. I noticed that several other vehicles had many more people, so we were very lucky to have such personalized attention. She did not rush us and offered to take many photos for us that she knew we would especially like. The tour was very complete and she made sure we didn't share most of the site visits with other tour guides, so we felt like we had most of them to ourselves, even though there are lots of tourists in the area. We went on the 2.5 hour tour of Monument Valley. The amazing monuments were enhanced by the 3 Sisters guide Amory. His stories, tales from his grandmother, photographic skills and "Navajo Massage" were fun and made the tour nothing but a pure joy. I chose "3 Sisters" simply on instinct with no investigation. Something about it seemed right and I'm glad I did. The personal attention and first-class service were above my expectations and the use of local talent did nothing but enhance our experience. We highly recommend Three Sisters. We booked an all-day private tour of Monument Valley and Mystery Valley. Larry was not only an excellent guide, but also an experienced driver on the challenging terrain, and a superb photographer. We especially enjoyed the Mystery Valley portion of the tour and the restricted areas on Monument Valley. Definitely worth spending a full day between these two stunning locations.
