Navajo Scenic 1.5 hr Guided Tour. Monday April 27, 2026, it was approximately 40 degrees that morning and we thought we were going to freeze. However, our tour guide, Larry, took the 3 of us in his 4x4 SUV. It was our own private tour. Larry did an exceptional job explaining everything about the monuments and the Navajo tribe. He occasionally stopped to allow us to take pics and even took pics for us, including panoramic pics. We stopped at a place where we bought authentic Navajo fry bread with butter and honey. It was delicious and much bigger than we imagined. I would recommend this tour and our guide, Larry. If we had more time, we would've taken the extended tour. read more

This two stars is because of how they put the passengers on the jeep. They had 1 jeep ready to go with four empty seats. I asked if me and two other people could go on that jeep. She said no because her "boss" is very particular. Also while waiting for those last four people the driver decided to take a break. Awful system. read more

This entire experience was top-notch. We debated just driving the scenic route ourselves, but this was a much better way to enjoy this spectacular area. Larry was our guide and he did a fantastic job of telling us about the various monuments, the culture and history of the area, and even helped take pictures of us around the monuments. Going on a guided tour got us into the backcountry area that is not part of the regular scenic trail. The trail is very rough in some spots and had very deep sand in many spots. I was thankful that we weren't navigating the trail in our own vehicle and could just sit back and enjoy the incredible beauty and peace of the area. Well worth the cost. read more

What an amazing tour! Our guide, Travis, was the absolute best! We learned so much during this tour of beautiful Monument Valley! The tour was wonderful, in and of itself, but Travis truly made it special! So incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the land and the Navajo people, but also talented with both musical instruments (to which he treated us to a song!) and iPhones (with which he helped us take the perfect photos!). We had a great backcountry Monument Valley tour with Cheryl and Duffy for our private group. We had a fun ride off road in their outfitted trucks. The tour lasted 2 1/2 hours and we felt well taken care of. Never rushed and the views were beautiful. Listening to Duffy playing his flute and Cheryl signing were highlights of the trip. This tour surpassed all our expectations. Our guide Travis was highly educated, very articulate and knowledgeable about the area, the history and the culture. Great storyteller as he was, he told us amazing stories of Navajo history, and stories behind the pictographs. I especially enjoyed his personal stories, about his dad, who was an educator and wrote many books on Navajo history. Travis is a brilliant and passionate musician. He played mesmerizing tunes in flute. In the very end, he talked about his musician brother who passed away. He performed a beautiful song and dance to express his grief. Marjorie picked us up at the KOA at 5:30 am right on time. After one more pickup location, we were off to explore the monuments in the emerging light of sunrise. Marjorie was a fantastic tour guide, injecting just the right amount of history, geology, and humor in the tour. Since it was cold, we were in a van instead of open air jeep which was appreciated. Since this was an extended tour, we went into the backcountry and also experienced some local Navajo culture/history. Highly recommend this tour! read more

We took this amazing tour with Larry, and felt very fortunate that we did. I've wanted to see Monument Valley since I was a child watching John Ford Westerns. I grew up to teach film, with a special interest in how Hollywood depicted Indigenous people and the history of conquest and its ideology. So this was a pilgrimage, and we were very lucky to see everything with a thoughtful, knowledgeable, and open-hearted guide who was willing to share with us the perspectives of his Diné/Navaho heritage. (I was a little concerned about riding all day in an open coach and trekking through desert--but it was a very easy day for me at 72, with a slight limp.) Larry's enthusiasm for the geological and cultural history of the area made the tour not only informative but breath-takingly vivid. The Valley is full of wonders but I'd never be able to appreciate them without a Native guide: we saw ancient pictographs up close, learned the traditions around the geological formations, scrambled up hills to prehistoric dwellings, and met local artisans and their lovely families. Larry shared with us his music and language. I will want to come back to this amazing place. read more

We truly enjoyed our visit to the Monument Valley today. Based on our experience, we highly recommend the Monument Valley Tribal Tour and the best way is to go for the Backcountry tour. Larry was our guide. He has shown professionalism and is knowledgeable. He is also an amazing storyteller. He shared stories passed down from his grandparents. He explained the Navajo traditions, culture, and way of life. We learned a lot from him. We enjoyed watching him play his drum and sung a Navajo song. He even helped us in taking photos of us so we can capture our memorable experience here in Monument Valley. The backcountry is beautiful but can be difficult to navigate even if you have your own vehicle. In my opinion visitors need a 4WD in order to drive along the regular 17-mile route, and obviously the backcountry. Some parts of the regular 17-mile route even need an advanced level off-roading driving skill. I saw a guy with a small SUV hesitating to take a downhill steep slope at the beginning of the 17- mile route. A lot of people own an SUV but never really go off-roading so they are not used to the terrain in Monument Valley. Take the Tribal Tour and have fun! read more

Spectacular 3 hour tour that was supposed to be a 2 hour tour. Could have spent all day out there, it was a life changing experience and photos I shot are are so good people think they're fake. Our guide couldn't have been more pleasurable. We debated driving our own car but the tour gets you into back country you wouldn't otherwise see. Bonus was entering a hogan for a philosophical Navajo perspective given to us by an elder native. Can't recommend the tour highly enough. read more

We had a great tour of Monument Valley with our tour guide, Trevor. Such a wonderful land to explore, and when we were there (early May) the road was restricted to 4x4's which our rental was not. So the only way to see it was via guided tour. The tours seem to take a different route than the cars, so you aren't battling the roads with cars. We were in an open air vehicle that could seat 12 or so, but they spread us out between vehicles, with each carrying only around 6 which was very nice. And it wasn't particularly dusty, but the temperature jumped around a lot, so a light jacket was great. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful time touring with Monument Valley Tribal Tours. Our tour guide, Larry Team, was friendly, knowledgeable, and answered all of our random questions. Even if you have a 4x4, I would recommend doing a tour with a guide so that you get to learn some of the history and culture of Monument Valley. Of course, the views and scenery are spectacular. The vehicle was comfortable enough, but be sure to look at the weather and bundle up as needed. We had brief rain showers and overcast skies (early October), but we're dressed for it, plus he gave us ponchos to wear. We really did have a great tour - Jameson is so knowledgeable about the area and his heritage. He is also very talented which he showed by playing his double flute. Very nice young man, you're gonna miss him when he gets his electrical degree - which we all encouraged him to do and to get back to school LOL. Hubby and I capped off a four-day New Year's trip to the Four Corners with a "sunset" three-hour tour of Monument Valley, which was more than capably led by Larry of Monument Valley Tribal Tours! Even though hubster and I have both worked for some American Indian tribes, there is always something new to learn, and boy, did we learn a lot about Monument Valley and the peoples who have populated it since time immemorial! Larry was so knowledgeable and talked about the geology of how the incredible stone "monuments" (carved by God, underground volcanic activity, wind, sand and water) came to be in this very sacred place. He also was super handy with a camera taking some beautiful pictures reflected in water and in panoramic style. He even took us on some roads and dirt paths that were for Navajo guides and their passengers only! We got to go inside a hogan where a woman was carding wool and spinning it to work on a woven rug her late grandmother had started. He shared about how the peoples' names Anasazi ("short enemy") and Navajo came to be (as with many names, given to people by their enemies and/or mashups/shortenings of actual words). He also answered any questions we asked including personal ones about his own life. He really took his time with us and did not appear to be in any huge rush to get back to headquarters. I hope we can someday return to Monument Valley and get him as our guide once more! Thanks for a wonderful afternoon, Larry, even if there was no sunset to see due to the cloud cover! We took the Valley of the Gods tour. It was scheduled for 2 1/2 hours, but our tour lasted 3 1/2 hours. Marjorie showed us all the monument formations and their names. She gave us a demonstration of how to make Navajo footwear and a baby carrier. She explained the rituals involved in childbirth for Navajos. We toured Goosenecks State Park. What a beautiful area. We visited in Early May 2023. We experienced the Back Country Tour with Larry Team as our guide. He was an excellent guide relating historic information about the Valley's history and modern development and cultural stories about the Navajo who live there. He sang songs for us at several of the stops which added to the experience, making it more real for us. We stopped to visit a local Weaver who shared stories about weaving, basketry, local lore and her experience growing up and living in the Valley. He gave us ample time for photos and to simply soak in the Valley and the experience. Truly a memorable tour with and excellent guide! We also took the Mystery Valley Tour with Marjory as our tour guide. She skillfully navigated the dusty roads while relating stories of living and working in the Valley.
