I stopped into Gouldsburger's for lunch recently. I'd been passing it by for months, and since I was in the mood for a burger, I thought I'd give it a try. First off, the place is small, clean, and comfortable, with a few tables inside, as well as a countertop along the front window, for in house dining. I was immediately greeted by Nick, who was super friendly and helpful. Pretty decent hot dog spot. Me and my gf were craving hot dogs before we went to a museum and this was the nearest one. She had the Plain Jane Dog and I think I had the Dirty Dog. We actually wanted eachother's because I like a plain hot dog but thought I'd be adventurous and she liked the beef on it. It had good flavor but to me it took away from the hot dog and it was all I tasted. Loved the waffle fries and the drinks were cool! read more

Got the Chicken Cheese Steak- OMG the WORST. It was super bland, overly cheesy, barley any onions. I tried to salvage the sandwich with ketchup and that did not work. Portion size was decent. The space was clean. read more

The everything seasoned bread on the steak was phenomenal--so soft with a crunch exterior that was well seasoned. The steak itself felt lackluster, as it didn't taste of strong quality or freshness. First time in Philadelphia, first time in PA, we were on the search for the best cheesesteaks. Gouldsburger's came highly recommended. Owner was there and very welcoming and friendly. He helped us with the menu choices and I feel like we hit a good variety with my family of 5. We tried a burger, and basically 4 different cheesesteaks. We also had to get the fried pickles, being big fans and I will say this is the only thing we got that was a BIG let down. Highly over salted, burnt, not crispy, not a great batter. Would not order those again or suggest them. They do seem to have good pickles but need a better batter, turn the heat down on the fryer so they're not all clumped and burnt. Also, a tip from some Texans that know a thing or two about frying pickles...the sauce needs to compliment the good quality pickles and should be a dill forward homemade ranch. Just my opinion! The REST of the items we tried were all delicious. Fantastic quality bread with great texture and flavor. The cheese is the Cooper sharp yellow and it's perfect, melted in, gooey, creamy excellent in the cheesesteak. The truffle aioli didn't hold back, when you say truffle you mean it and we appreciate that. It's fantastic! There was a good ratio of meat and cheese to bread as well. The buffalo chicken was lacking a bit, my son couldn't really taste the ranch and when he asked for extra he was given some and it was a basic hidden valley...a missed opportunity in our opinion as this doesn't have much flavor. Are these the best the city has to offer? A probably contender I'm sure. Better than the OG rivals situated across the street from each other we tried earlier that day...by far, hands down Gouldsburgers has taken the simple meat bread cheese and nearly perfected it. Have we tried better elsewhere? Yes...in PA but not in Philly, surprisingly! Would we go back while in Philadelphia, absolutely. read more

I work super close to this spot and finally got a chance to try it after hearing good things from my coworkers. I got a beef cheesesteak combo with straight cut fries and a cola with cane sugar. Even though this was considered a half cheesesteak, it was a big portion and was worth the price. I normally don't like seeded bread but this bread was so good! The beef was tasty and not dry. This was actually my first time trying cooper sharp on a cheesesteak and it was just a bit heavy at the time in the middle of the work day. Next time I'll get a different cheese or ask for less cheese. The fries were hot, crispy, perfectly seasoned, and seemed like they were made fresh in-house and not frozen. We had such a great experience today. We are in town for the national track meet with New Balance and enjoy staying on Logan Square. When looking for food when we arrived today, this spot popped up in my Yelp search and I'm so glad. We were greeted so nicely and the food was so good. I love the attention that we got. We were a rather large party and the servers were so apologetic that the macaroni and cheese was taking so long. It was so sweet. That Philly cheesesteak that I had was FABULOUS! It was huge and I couldn't eat it all! The flavor was spot on. My husband raved about the truffle fries but I passed because I have to cut carbs somewhere LOL I hope we can stop back before leaving but we will definitely go back on another visit. read more

Finally made it over. Not really a cheesesteak fan but I eat 3 per year. I walked in and it is very clean with sufficient seating. Very organized fork and knife and salt and pepper and etc. Owner was on site and very welcoming. I got the cheesesteak as they make it. Got waffle fries. The waffle fries were cooked crisp, but not too crisp. The cheesesteak roll was seeded, which I like. They hand shred their cheese because the owner said it cooks the right way. Nice attention to that detail. The meat was good quality. Overall a good sandwich. I definitely would go back for the quality of the food AND the attentive service. read more

Expensive, yet small portions. Tried their chicken sandwich, which was tasty, but also teeny tiny. So much so that I after the fact realized I'd need to purchase 2 just to have a decent sized lunch. And their $6+ side of fries was teeny too. Paying over $20 for a chicken sandwich and fries (no drink) is not a competitive price even for center city. Place was empty during mid-week lunch hour, so not sure this location will last much longer. read more

Was in from out of town and took my boys to the Franklin Institute. I wanted a cheesesteak but the place I was going to head to was closed for vacation. Found Gouldsburgers on Yelp and it was close by with a few good reviews so I gave it a shot. The cheesesteak was huge! I'm a big guy with too big of an appetite and I couldn't finish it all. The bread with everything seasoning with top notch but my one and only complaint is that the cheese was a bit too much, it overpowered the steak. I think like 25% less cheese would be perfect. But really solid incorporation of the meat, cheese & onions. It wasn't all just piled on. A lot of care was taken making this. An order of fries is ginormous, enough for 3-4 people. My son like his hotdog as well. The two big guys behind the counter seemed to really be on top of things, they gave me an owner vibe. Solid BEC. Good portion. Only minor issue is you could really taste whatever cooking spray they use on their grill. Wish more places used evoo or butter rather than what I assume was a seed oil. Can't win them all though! And clearly I'm not super strict on not using seed oils. Still housed this sandwich. Just think it would taste better not using seed oils. Also, it would have been nice if staff guy upfront wasn't on his phone. I walked past him as he was behind the counter and he didn't get off his phone until the second I approached the register.
