Delicious!! The cooper sharp American cheese is to die for. Definitely getting extra cheese next time. I ordered online and it was ready when i got there. Surprisingly no line at 1pm on a weekday.

We loved sitting in the little cove!

Recommended by several people we decided to give it a try during our Philly visit. We ordered the cheesesteak with provolone, mushrooms, and peppers with a side of fries. Delicious!

Cheese steak sandwich was the best I ever ate. Plenty of beef , advertised as rib, tasty bun, sweet peppers, and cheese wiz. Food definitely rated five stars. Down side was the cleanliness of the restaurant which is old and probably difficult to keep clean. Also, they automatically added a 20% tip on top of the food and taxes. That is a lot for an order at the counter take out.

Good cheesesteak but I got with the provolone and would recommend with whiz instead. Rookie mistake but my son loved his- we ordered the fries too which were ok.

Was in Philly for a work training and a friend and I wanted to get out for some lunch. Since we were walking, and since we wanted a cheesesteak, Sonny's was our choice. There was a bit of a line when we got there, but not bad, maybe. 5 minute wait to order. We both ordered a cheesesteak with provolone, but I also got onions and mushrooms (at least I think I had mushrooms). Food came out quick and hot and delicious! Great Philly 'feel' here and we sat at the counter against the wall. I've eaten a lot of cheesesteaks in Philly and this one was pretty good. I'd definitely come back if I was in the area.

My daughter and I were visiting in town and found Sonny's. The cook was quick and the food was amazing! Small restaurant space, but conveniently located in the downtown area. The cashier was nice and patiently helped us while we decided what we wanted. My daughter wants to come back for their simple, yet delicious cheesesteaks.

Out of the three cheesesteaks on market street this is the best one. The cheesesteak with cheese whiz is amazing. The service was super fast, and the inside of the restaurant is alright, but I would just come here for the food.

During a recent trip to Philadelphia I set out on a mission to try some of the most highly rated cheesesteaks. Sonny's Famous steaks ended up on my list and I have to say that it was my favorite one! After spending a few hours at the Museum of the American Revolution, I had worked up quite the appetite. I figured a cheesesteak would satisfy my cravings. When you walk into this joint you're greeted with a straightforward operation. I was fortunate to avoid a long line and was able to order fairly quickly. I ended up going with a cheesesteak with onions, sweet peppers, and Cooper Sharp. My order came out promptly. I decided to pair the steak with some of the hot peppers near their soda fountain which ended up being a very nice touch. So how was the sandwich? While not the largest I had in Philly, it was extremely well made. The meat was seasoned, juicy, and hot. The Cooper Sharp cheese also paired excellently with the meat and made for the perfect melty combo. The steak at Sonny's was the most flavorful I had in the city and I think it stands in contrast to some of the more lightly seasoned offerings you might find elsewhere. The bread was relatively soft and chewy which provided a good consistency for each bite. Overall, I'd give this spot top marks. You'll get an excellent sandwich quickly for a reasonable price. They also accept card here. Check them out if you're in the area of the Liberty Bell/Independence Hall!

Ribeye Cheesesteak with Cheese Whiz and Grilled Onions.

This was my first Philly cheesesteak on my cheesesteak tour and it set a great standard to start. We ordered and got sandwich pretty quickly. There are a couple tables and counters for seating with quick turnaround time. We ordered the Ribeye Cheesesteak with Cheese Whiz and Grilled Onions ($14.48). It's a pretty simple menu with a burger and chicken sandwich too, which is good if you're feeling something different. The cheesesteak was good with tender meat and soft bread. We only wish there was more cheese whiz spread all over the sandwich, but it's pretty good overall.

My friends and I were basically on a cheesesteak crawl all day and this was our first stop! Pros: - Not a long wait - Good sandwich: tasty and tender meat, good bread - Funny decor - Inside table seating Cons: - Sandwich didn't have much cheese whiz - Not many topping options - Smaller portion for the price point

Im still looking for the best Philly Cheesesteak. So many cliche name will pop up claiming to be the best.. So here I am at Sonnys. It wast packed for a hot Saturday afternoon. The employees are all nice and friendly unlike Genos or Pats. I get a Philly cheese steak with mayo, sweet peppers Cooper cheese and provolone. The bun was good. Im glad this place doesn't have seeded buns.. 4 stars because the meat is not seasoned.. you gotta add a bit more s/p or some Lawrys seasoning salt. I like my cheese to be evenly melted, not having clumps of cheese at the ends... The dining area has two long communal tables and table tops. Bathrooms were clean. Overall I'll get it a 7. They are still better than Genos and Pats. They are very generous with the meat portions. I'll definitely give them another try in the future.

First time is here from California! This small restaurant was everything and more! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the employees who were very nice. The restaurant can get a little bit busy, and when it's busy, it's packed. And the seats are limited, I'd recommend someone saving a seat, and then another person placing the order. Now, the cheese sticks from this place, we're unimaginable! If we are ever in the city again, we will definitely be coming here again! By far the best cheesesteaks we've ever had !

We were looking for the best Philly Cheesesteak while in Philadelphia. I finally determined it is impossible. After consuming 3, they were so different from each other, I am not sure how you determine which is best or original etc.. However, I did really like this one. I got it with onions and Cooper Cheese. I thought the meat could have been seasoned just a little more, and include a little more cheese. I did eat the entire sandwich which was a first. The fries were also perfectly done. Price was very fair.

We ordered two Philly cheesesteak and one chicken cheesesteak. We were asked if we wanted "fried onions" and well it the same as grilled onions and not like an onion ring, just FYI. The chicken did not have much flavor but adding the peppers they give you it adds some and my mom enjoyed it. The cheesesteak was good too but also the steak was a bit flavorless. The sandwich is big and you need to ask to be cut in half, they just give it to you whole. It gets busy and they only accept cash. They do have an ATM machine on site if needed. Parking is on the street and not bathroom that I saw. This would be a place I come back but I'll bring some salt and pepper with me.

John's Roast Pork is legendary in Philly - it's been around for decades - 96 years to be exact! I'd been there once before many years ago (couldn't remember anything about it) and thought it was time for a revisit. I got the large Roast Pork sandwich - you can see from the attached picture the 'preferred toppings' (Dad's Way) are: Mustard Raw onions Hot seeded pepper American cheese I had only the Mild Provolone cheese on mine - no mustard, raw onions or seeded pepper. I would have had cooked (caramelized) onions - but they had only raw...and American cheese was not a choice for me (I was raised on it). The pork is supposed to be 'slow roasted (7 hours) pork shoulder (pork butt)' - and it may very well be, but it reminds me of the meat that's carved off the large vertical rotisseries for gyros. It doesn't look that appealing - it's like a large sub sandwich. The pork was soft, tender and seasoned well - the roll was very good - John's had been getting its bread from Carangi Bakery. However, the bakery closed due to a fire so I'm not sure where the bread is from, unless it reopened. I finally satisfied my curiosity about John's and went to see what the sandwich was like. While it probably ranks as one of the better 'pork/steak' sandwiches in Philly, I just couldn't get excited about it.

The Original Pat's King of Steaks is located in South Philly, specifically in the Passyunk Square neighborhood. It sits at the intersection of East Passyunk, South 9th, and Wharton. The building has many different signs and lights that will let you know that you are in the correct place. Since this is in the city, parking can be somewhat tricky. There are times I have had to circle around, or get whomever I was with to drop me off and have them come back. However, sometimes I have secured street parking not too far away. This will just depend on the time of day, and really the luck of the draw, if you are able to easily locate parking. This is an outdoor stand, meaning there is no inside to enter. You will order at the counter, and food is packaged to-go. However, there are some tables surrounding the building that you can dine at. They are all under the roof overhang, so you will be somewhat protected from the elements. On this day, it was not terribly busy. I really did not have to wait in any kind of line before being able to place my order. This was around 4:00 on a Saturday in September. First, I took some time to look over the menu posted near the sidewalk. There is also a helpful guide on "how to order a steak," for those that are unfamiliar. When it was my first time here, I actually found the humorous display very helpful. I placed my order for two classic Cheesesteak Wit, made with Cheez Whiz. When ordering, you specify if you want Wit (with onion) or Wit-Out (no onion). Given that I was wanting to try the most authentic sandwich I could, I opted for the onions and the traditional Cheez Whiz. My sandwiches only took a minute or so to be ready. As stated, it was not busy, and they are able to whip up these sandwiches rather quickly. I ended up taking my sandwiches to-go, and having them for meals the next few days. They reheat well, and have good flavor. I like having the onions on it for an added texture. Pricing is not terrible. Pat's is more expensive than Geno's by $2 for the same sandwich. My total was $36 after tax for the two sandwiches, making them $18 each. You definitely are paying for the experience and the novelty that is coming to this famous corner of Philadelphia. But, this price is not out of the ballpark of other places in the area. The sandwich is a decent size, and you can definitely get two meals out of it if you are eating it by yourself. So, all that considering, it is a fair value for what you pay. It seemed like most menu items were $20 or under. FYI, they take both cash and card. The staff are quick and efficient. However, it will not be the most friendly or pleasant experience, especially if you do not know how to order. I am not saying that the experience was poor by any means, but be aware that this is not Disney World and they will not be overly kind to you at the order window. Being from Pittsburgh, I had never had a true Philadelphia Cheesesteak sandwich until a few years ago when I visited for the first time. Since that trip, I typically make it a point to stop and get a few sandwiches to take back home with me. I enjoy coming to Pat's for the atmosphere, and the true taste of Philadelphia. I recommend giving it a try at least once, just to say you have had it. Plus, the sandwiches are pretty tasty, too. I will definitely be back here on future trips to South Philly.
