Love this place, especially for a summer treat. This Bexley location is close by is my favorite. It definitely has an old time or classic feel. Make sure to take a look around and take it all in especially looking in the inside glass windows at the back. This family owned store has been around for 70 years or so and it a real staple. I am a fan of the 3 scoops in a bowl and usually got with the traditional favorites. Vanilla Bean, Cinnamon, Salty Caramel Chocolate Pretzel, and Butter Pecan are my favorites. Their Banana Splits are great too! They have good cones here too, and have sundaes, milkshakes, smoothies, novelties and even pints to go. Totally recommend. I think I've been to a Johnson's (in Westerville?) and thought the ice cream was good-not-great. This time it was handy. I didn't even try any ice cream. But Baby K did, her usual little sundae (vanilla, whipped cream, cherry) plus some gummy bears since they have eight or ten fun toppings. She loved it. I got a tropical smoothie, which was very good. And- a sandwich? Yep, they have hot (sometimes) and cold (all day) sandwiches, which was perfect for me since I was hungry and not as up for ice cream as the kid. I ended up with egg salad, and it was a pretty darn good egg salad sandwich. On wheat (your choice) and with a side of chips or pasta salad (tiny, but good.) Comes with a good pickle. I was impressed. Service was great. Prices are maybe a little high, but it's all good stuff. Parking lot is small, and be careful how you come in- one way in and out, enter to the west of the building. We are with my son and three grandsons and we met them in Columbus. They're from just outside Cleveland and Hudson and we're from Frankfurt Illinois so we all met in Columbus to see their zoo. It's a great zoo by the way anyway afterwards we went to eat, and then we went to Johnson's ice cream, it was great. Really cool ice cream shop that makes their own ice cream in house! They sell their ice cream regionally in many restaurants, including in Cameron Mitchell restaurants. We came for a tour with the Bexley Parks and Rec Dept, so there were over 20 of us. They let us taste the vanilla ice cream as soon as it was freshly made. Whoa. It was creamy! You could really taste the vanilla! It's a family business that's been around for five generations. Very cool! Staff here is really nice too! Parking is ample and the place is a lot bigger than I thought. It's got an old school feel about it and you can sit inside or outside. They sell pints of ice cream. I've been cleaning and emptying my house for the past few days and my niece wanted to get out the house so I figured you can't go wrong with ice cream and Johnsons is close to me and open even though it was 10:20pm. My mom knew what she wanted so she made her cone, asked if there was anything else we wanted and I responded yes I just need some more time. My sister ordered and again she got her cone and we were asked if there was anything else we wanted. Now I'm starting to feel rushed at this point... I know they were closing in 30 minutes but sheesh no one smiled the whole time, the scoop in a cup my sister ordered was slid across the counter to her and my nieces spoon was put on the counter top where all our hands were and who knows who else's hands were there before. Overall the only thing I liked was 1 of 2 sugar free options of splendid mint chocolate chip and the orange cream flavor. They seemed short staffed but then we saw several workers so it was just a bit inefficient tonight. I ordered one scoop in a waffle cone (half blueberry pie, half caramel pie). I come to this johnson's frequently, I ordered me and my boyfriends ice cream the exact same. A two scoop sundae with hot fudge on top (no whip, no cherry). I'm not sure if the girl that made mine was new but she just looked at me with a blanked stare, so I said hello and got started with my order. After I got done with my order i still had to explain to her what I wanted. When I got to the counter I should've took a picture of what my ice cream looked like. Have been coming to Johnson's from war years and I really want to admit it's really the only place that we enjoy a hot fudge sundae because the hot fudge is rich without being sicky sweet. A few days before we were in the new Albany area, and instead of having dessert at the restaurant after to go to Johnson's for our beloved hot fudge sundaes. Blair will be disappointed. The same thing happened a few days later when we were at Johnson's in Bexley. They raise the prices, but who hasn't in the food industry we had later realized that you got two toppings. Usually it was only one, so they raise the price and offer to talk, but that seems fair right well our server never told us that we just ordered hot fudge no nuts we needed a microscope to find the amount of hot fudge because they're hardly was any now since we only ordered one topping cause we didn't know any better. We should've gotten double the amount of hot fudge for the amount of money they charged us however, we got half of one topping. I really hope Johnson isn't going downhill because we really used to love it. read more

To me, this was just another place to get ice cream if I happen to be down in the area. We got a buckeye sundae to share and a scoop of unicorn ice cream for our toddler daughter, because it was pink. She loves pink. She did not love the frozen solid gummy bears inside. She spit out every single one. I tried it, and they were indeed quite difficult to chew despite being the tiniest gummy bears I've ever seen. Johnson's is one of the best local ice creams in Columbus. It doesn't get mentioned enough. They have been around for a long time. It's a local company so that's great. They have some hot food too. If you get one scoop it's about $5, but only a little more for two. If you get three scoops it's only about $6 though. This means it's way more cost efficient to get more. Along with the ice creams are some sorbets. These are good for the vegan crowd. The best of these are the lemon and the raspberry. It's not as popular as the other locally made ice creams but Johnson's is good. It's been around for a long time so it's doing something right. The service is pretty fast too. read more

This review is for carryout. A summer Saturday evening, and business was hopping. The patio was full, and the line to order was stretched back to the front door. A planned Jeni's visit was interrupted by seeing Blueberry Pie ice cream flavor on JRIC website. I recommend their website. photo's and descriptions sell it, for sure. While we had many choices on the "must taste" list, that Blueberry Pie was at the top for first taste. The staff was friendly teens that were eager to help us pick a flavor, and suggest others. Having many employees on hand, helped to work those patrons behind us, to accommodate around us. This includes the young girl that let us go in front of her, because she had a long hand written family order. Her order was getting bagged as ours was, because of the fast staff. Prices are right in line with other scooped ice cream spots. Cheaper stuff usually comes from a soft serve machine. More expensive stuff is rolled or made in front of you. We did not dine in, so I cannot review on table, bathroom, patio, or dining room cleanliness. read more

Oh the endless options, from the traditional ice cream flavors, sorbets, yogurts and shakes there is something for everyone here. I liked the black raspberry chocolate chip but I'm just a stickler for that flavor in general. My friend got the Bexley maple sugar ice cream and thought it was great. My other friend got a shake and described it as a "creamsicle." Luckily, I came here right after my walk/run so this was a great treat and I got a perfect parking spot before it got really busy. It got really busy for the concert they do every Thursday night at 7 PM outside on the patio. I will definitely be back soon to try other flavors after my run in this area. read more
