This is primarily a take out place. There are tables, but I don't think anyone is meant to eat at them. One orders online or calls. The food is ok. The food is Chinese American with Lo Miens and meat-of-choice with broccoli etc. It's passable. It's clean. They do a decent business so people obviously like it. I wish these types of restaurants were able to explore preparing BBQ pork so they all didn't taste the same. Their boneless spare rib is lean and dried out. Basically candied pork. They do offer adding more protein to your dish for an up charge. They have lunch specials, they take credit cards. This is a tiny place in a strip mall in Glastonbury, serving Chinese food and take out. Not much to comment about the service, the staff at the counter tee were friendly. Food comes out really quick and is prepared fresh and hot. I only tried the egg drop soup and a house fried rice. Both were delicious and served hot. The soup comes with a pack of wontons. I asked for the fried rice to be made spicy they gave me a cup of chill sauce at no extra cost. The cost is pretty reasonable for the quantity of food they are serving. If you would like a quick Chinese take out, I recommend going here. Will go back again to try more dishes. read more

When I went to pick up my food I noticed an xtra $2 fee,I didn't realize that's how much they added for asking for pork fried rice with my combination. If they are going for "nothin' special Chinese takeout" that competes with what you expect, they need to get a little tastier or cheaper. The cook scored a win with the Kung Pao, but that one thing didn't quite make up for the quality of everything else. Kung Pao Shrimp: The sauce was savory and unique, and the shrimp that were grilled and caked with it were delicious. House Fried Rice: had a mix of various kitchen scraps, but none seemed to add much more than texture. The rice itself was an enticing flourescent yellow color, but had a bizarre and near-total lack of flavor. Crab Rangoon, Chicken and Broccoli: Too mediocre to describe. read more

The menu is garden-variety take-out chinese and the prices were pretty good. We got several items (Mongolian Beef, Broccoli with Garlic Sauce, Beef Lo Mein and Hunan Chicken). All were well prepared. Perfectly standard and quick takeout. Nothing too bad, and nothing spectacular. Gourmet wok is a good, all around takeout chinese place in the center of Glastonbury. Their lo mein is not too oily and good. The other foods I have had are your run of the mill, standard Chinese fare. They are incredibly quick on the takeout orders, and the restaurant is incredibly clean for a chinese take away joint. Prices are good. The only issue I have is their wonton soup (my favorite) is pretty bad. The broth doesnt taste good at all. More of a beef broth than the standard Chicken broth. I've lived in Glastonbury for over 20 years and have never tried Gourmet Wok. Last night, we decided to try something different than our normal place. BIG MISTAKE! It was the worst food that we have ever had! "Gourmet"?, it should be stricken from their name! The boneless spareribs were rank. The meat tasted like it was bad. We refused to eat it, fearing we would get sick. The teriyaki chicken appetizer, was flavorless and felt almost slimy. The pork fried rice and pork lo mein were lacking in flavor. The steamed dumplings were thin, soggy & lacking in flavor. The sauce that came with them was very intense, with a lingering garlic flavor. The "Sesame chicken" was "ok", though no sesames to be seen. We were really hoping that it was going to be a good experience and to expand our options. But we were sadly mistaken and will GLADLY continue to patronize Ming Bao, where we usually go and that the quality of food is FAR greater. I honestly don't know how they are still in business. I would highly recommend NOT going there and to go to Ming Bao or ANYWHERE else for that matter. read more

Three fourths! Not even 2/3 which I could have lived with but a full 3/4. This is a great family owned Chinese takeout place. The lunch special is 5.98 and includes a generous portion of a main dish (there's a large selection) rice and soup or an egg roll. I got the Kung Pao chicken, which arrived hot and freshly cooked with a generous helping of peanuts. The dish was not as spicy as I prefer but that probably because it's in Connecticut. I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce. I was please to see a lot of vegetables and mushrooms with the chicken however there was A LOT OF OIL in the food. Granted I didn't ask for minimum oil, but still, could not finish because of the heavy oil. I didn't feel great after eating. probably won't return. This is my favorite chinese in the area. The only chinese food I will order lately. They are friendly and prices are good. We get Buddha Delight, a nice mix of chinese and other vegetables in a light sauce. Then we get the shrimp lo mein, noodles and lots of little shrimp and some veg. The General tso chicken is our favorite. Perfect crispy saucy chicken. Ask for some broccoli. Love their pork fried rice and eggrolls. only chinese delivery i have found in glastonbury- ordered once and got crab rangoon not golden fingers (my kids meal) called to req them to bring the golden fingers and they tried charging me the difference then told me to have the crab rangoon ready for them to take back- which they did. i would have tossed it anyways but really! i shouldn't have had to ask for a manager to avoid being charged 2 dollars more on their error and my kids not eating on time. i still order from them (ugh) when its convenient as we only have 1 pizza place and this 1 chinese place that will deliver and sometimes life gets too hectic to cook or go out. food is average (bland) but edible. delivery is the only reason it gets too stars. and its expensive even in glastonbury you can go to any other and get more (better) food for the $ if you have the time to drive... . . . read more
