We take out frequently from Great Wall. First of all the woman who takes your order over the phone is delightful! So sweet and accommodating. Next the food...Everything is fresh! The vegetables are super fresh and the food is not greasy. I like to order the combination dinners like shrimp and broccoli or beef and snow peas. Great Wall is currently my Chinese takeout place, 10 Minute Drive or Less Category. I don't generally judge a takeout restaurant by its appearance, but I acknowledge that if Great Wall were a book facing out on the library shelf, I'd go a different direction. Still, Great Wall consistently provides food that is decent to very good, at a fair price. Great Wall's service is very efficient. I live a little less than 10 minutes away. Things usually go like this. I call from from home. Great Wall answers by the second ring. The call lasts a minute and at the end, Great Wall says "10 minutes." I walk to my car and drive. I arrive at Great Wall and my order is ready. That's reliable takeout. I change up my orders a bit, but I frequently order a combo meal with General Tso's chicken, boneless spare ribs, pork fried rice and an egg roll. That's what I ordered tonight. If not for this combo meal, I probably wouldn't order any of these things. But getting these four things together often outweighs the one thing that I most want to order. Pork fried rice's stock was a bit down tonight. It's never a highlight, but today there seemed to be less pork than usual. However, Egg Roll's stock was a bit up. A wash. The boneless spareribs are consistently very good. The pork has good texture and the glaze has the level of sweetness I look for. It's hard to know how to judge the General. The outside is never as crispy as I like, but it is takeout and steam circulates when they close the lid. The sauce has good flavor. The chicken itself is OK. One thing that Great Wall consistently crushes is Crab Rangoon. The shell is crispy and has good color. The inside is sweet and creamy. Great texture and flavor all around. Great Wall is somewhere between 3 and 4 Stars for me. Closer to a 3 tonight. In any event, until another within a 600 second drive can efficiently provide better food for the same price or less, Great Taste will remain my Chinese Takeout Place, 10 Minute Drive or Less Category. read more

I have been ordering from them for delivery or takeout for over 10 years. It seems like ever since Covid The food quality has changed, anything with pork or beef or shrimp has been reduced of meat. Tonight, we had a delivery of beef and mushroom and pork lo mien plus eggrolls, eggrolls were great. The beef and mushroom was 3/4 mushroom and the pork lo mein had very little pork. I won't be ordering again, except for eggrolls. if the protein costs are an issue, then the cost should be increased, don't skimp on the meats. Very nice people. read more

Steamed entrees - Check AND for the first time I have seen steamed Triple Delight (pork, chicken and shrimp) with mixed vegetables. YUM! Brown Rice - Check Dumplings - Check AND they have seafood dumplings AND they have a combination dumpling option (2 veggie, 2 meat, 2 seafood) Boneless Spare Ribs that are flavorful and generously sauced - Check. Open during a snow storm - Check x2 Owner whom remembers myself and my husband - Check It might be a hole in the wall restaurant but they are great at what the do. My husband and I have tried two other Chinese restaurants who scored high on google and Yelp and their basic dishes (house fried rice) was horrible. This was our third restaurant and we loved it. It's definitely a hidden gem. The crab ragoons were delicious and the rice wasn't yellow (I like heavily soyed rice so it looks brown). It was white rice (with a tint of brown) and was flavorful. Some of the best Chinese food we have enjoyed in our area. This restaurant is in a good location on the Silas Deane Highway in a small location next to Max Bibos. The food is really good, we have tried many items on the menu, some of our favorites are the steamed triple delight, house special soup, or low mein.....there is a new special dumpling that is chicken with spinach. The broth for house soups is very good and flavorful and cooked well. The options for the combinations are very good, like the boneless bbq ribs or the sesame chicken or sweet & sour chicken. The service is fast and often you can pickup your food in 10-15 minutes....staff in the restaurant are very friendly and helpful.....you can always pick up a menu with coupons. This is a 'hole in the wall' tiny place but the food is darn good. My husband loves the dumplings and they're quite reasonably priced. This time I went for shrimp everything. The shrimp rolls were simple but they had *surprise* real shrimp in them. So did the shrimp fried rice. The shrimp and Chinese vegetables was quite tasty. I ordered here a few times, the food wasn't bad. But I just ordered a boneless spare ribs w/ white rice and there was a hair about 8" long in it. I call them up and tell them hey, I just found a huge hair. he says he'll bring another. I show him the hair.. he want's to see how much i ate...and then dude says I ate too much of it.... I stopped eating the food when I found the hair! and furthermore there was more than 2/3 of the food left! Why isn't this kitchen wearing hair nets anyways? I'll never order from this place again. To find a hair and then be told I ate too much of it. I stopped as soon as I found it. Disrespectful, and downright bad customer service. I ended up driving down there myself and returning the new one he brought to me and told them give me my money back. At first they said no but then I told them I took a picture of the hair. Suddenly their tune changed. Don't order from this business. I tried to go with a different Chinese food place, disappointed is a great review!!! I will say the crab Rangoon was good but over an hour after I ordered it I am paying for it now!!! The highlight was my hot and sour soup!!! The absolute abomination was the moo shu!!! It has a flavor all its own, this lacked that beyond belief!!! They had an excuse for being late but wouldn't let me know if I didn't call!!! They might be good during the day but at night avoid unless you want lackluster food and very late delivery!!! I've been to this place twice- the first time was great! Fast, friendly service, great tasting food, and it's within walking distance from my home! The second time was just as great. It's nice to know that the service doesn't change based on the owners mood- these people are genuinely kind! I'm eating leftover sesame chicken and pork fried rice and it tastes just as good as yesterday. Side note- I walked in to pick up my food, and there was a gentleman in the back cutting up a bunch of fresh chicken. Great Wall of China is a small little restaurant nestled ever so gently in to the quarters of this particular building also the home to Max Subway, and comic book store, and Vito's a la pizza. This is one of the good Chinese restaurants, and reasonably priced. I always get the steamed chicken and broccoli with a side of the brown sauce, egg roll, and wonton soup, and it never disappoints. The team is friendly, and quick, the area de la cooking seems very clean and organized which is a plus because sometimes you go to Chinese restaurants and the back area looks like a sweet and sour explosion. I have lived in Wethersfield for awhile and have tried all of the Chinese places in the area. This is a new place (open less than 6 months) and I have switched to it as my primary take-out establishment. The portions are excellent and give an excellent value for the price. The building is very clean and the staff is friendly. Most importantly, the food is the tastiest of any place in the area from what I've had to this point. The fried wontons are REAL wontons that have been put in a fryer, not made out a completely different dough. The fried rice is savory and flavorful, with BIG pieces of pork with very little fat on them. The "American" specials are a particularly good value! read more

The Great Wall is the best Chinese take out restaurant. My favorites are Chicken Chow Mein, Pepper steak with onions, Chicken with string beans. They are the only place I have found that has brown rice available as an option instead of white rice. Brown rice is more healthier. Jean is very friendly, very curteous. Slow Driver. I live about 1 1/2 away and took them 1 hour to get to my house and the food was cold.

I ordered food on a Saturday night and the driver could not find where I lived, and did not speak english for me to give him directions. I called the main line at Great Wall and the manager (woman) told me that the driver left because he couldn't find where I lived and he would not be returning. I was then hung up on multiple times after asking if he could come back, and mentioning how we would be patient and wait. But, she continued to hang up on us. It was the worst customer service experience I have had in my life. We then called Wang Palace, who delivered to us in 30 min and could easily find where I lived. I highly recommend NOT ordering from here unless you want to be disrespected and ignored. read more
