I really love this school. My child was having some medical issues, and we kept getting flagged for truancy (despite him having an A average and working with his teachers). We eventually withdrew him from his local public school and found GFA. It worked out really well. He found a great group of friends and was academically challenged. The teachers really cared about him and despite its small size, there were enough extra curriculars and clubs to keep him engaged. I strongly recommend this school if the public school is not a good fit for your child or you are looking for them to be challenged. The Governor French Academy (GFA) is a wonderful academic institution. The individualized instruction the children receive coupled with the wide variety of topics covered, makes for an outstanding environment for young minds. The staff are knowledgable, kind and helpful and are focused on the education of children. We have been pleasantly surprised with how well GFA is run and how well our daughter is learning and growing. Paletz, and the GFA Board Members approximately 2 years ago. I can honestly say that we absolutely love & appreciate the faculty & curriculum at GFA! About 5 years ago, we joined the GFA family. It is, by far, one of the best schools in the area. The curriculum is individualized; the instructors are kind, caring and very knowledgeable. The classes are small (most are under 15 students for the lower grades; upper grades have often 8 students or less.) The school focuses on education; not sports; not fancy, expensive carpeting; not original paintings by Mönet...education. The entire school, grades K-12 has only about 125 students, which means lots of one-on-one assistance. The upper levels mentor the younger students with reading, mathematics, computer literacy and science. Both of my kids attend regular school during the year here and attend summer school during the summer. Both absolutely love it. The sports at this school are track; cross-country; soccer; volleyball; men's and women's basketball. Clubs include Key Club; Chess Club; Robotics; Physics Club; Mathematics Club. The students in 9th and 10th grade enter competitions for mathematics, chemistry, physics and compete against students from all over the state who are juniors and seniors and the GFA students will consistently take first and second place. The graduating seniors will leave with full scholarships to excellent universities because of this school. The school prepares its students from the get-go, to prepare for college. At GFA your child is treated as an individual and their learning is tailored to them. At GFA they realize that all children are not the same and embrace their uniqueness. The faculty has taken the time and effort to figure out how our son learns. Our son spent the last 3 plus years being told he was not "normal" by his teachers and public school administrators. The public school went as far as recommending our son be placed in an alternative school for special education. All of this was very damaging to his self esteem. In 5 short months, GFA has worked hard to undo the damage caused by this. I cannot begin to express how pleased we are with what we've seen in such a short time. read more

Superior, top-of-the line school. Every child is given the opportunity to work to their individual capability and then encouraged to strive to achieve more. The staff are outstanding. They are always willing to take the extra step to help each child be successful. The curriculum not only includes standard subjects, but it is also enriched with foreign language, karate, and many opportunities to learn important life lessons through community outreach projects or involvement with the many families and children from so many different countries and backgrounds. Unacceptable behavior is dealt with immediately and therefore it does not become a disruption for the other children and staff. The daily motto "We go to school here to go to college and stay in college" is a successful motto for every child not just my child.
