Each time I spoke to the triage nurse who assured me that they still had no beds and if we left we would leave "against medical advice" AMA. This would affect our medical coverage. Some we were trapped. Just assume there were about 30+ other patients in different states of pain, mental clarity and coughing fits surrounding us. Also a random monitor alarm that went off every 90 seconds like a torture device. It honked three times like car horn. The vending machines didn't work and mostly the staff was apathetic. Finally at hour 8 at 2:15am we got a room. First nurse Riley was a rock star and the Dr. , Dr Defabio, was no non-sense and attentive. X-Rays were explained and medication was given. 2 boots were given and at 3:30 we were told that we would be discharged. Then we sat until after 5am until a NEW nurse came in handed the patient her discharge orders and said all set and walked out not providing a wheelchair or directions on how to leave the maze of hospital rooms. I aggressively hit the call button and on the advice of my wife ( "be nice") , was nice when the nurse came back, I asked mostly calmly, "do we get a wheelchair? Will she be wheeled out? How do I meet her with my vehicle?" The NEW nurse seem put off and said something like, "I guess I will take her". By now it was quiet and other than the four employees sitting at the main desk were laughing and telling stories. It wasn't "bustling". The patient being a nurse, we know the struggle and overworked nature, but this was just seemed like an apathetic employee not seeing the patient as a human. Overall. The 11 plus hour wait/ visit was cruel and painful. ( I figured if we multiplied my level of frustration by 3, we had how the injured patient felt). We have already contacted the hospital ombudsman and filled out the survey that was emailed. We will not ever set foot in Fairview ( considered our "go to" hospital for years ) ever again. That's all we ever wanted was good heath-care and the patient's diagnosis and treatment plan. Stay away from Fairview ER. Also hospitals should disclose "wait-times" as we would have gone elsewhere rather than be trapped for 11 hours. Everyone knows how positive I am. Hard to be positive with such bad treatment. Ok....off my soapbox.

Because I have a chronic condition that affects many different areas in my body, I require a lot of specialized medical care. I have seen positions in many departments and I have had testing done in several areas. While I have experienced a couple of bad eggs, the vast majority of the MetroHealth positions, nurses, and other medical providers have been professional, excellent at doing their jobs, and compassionate. Let's face it - healthcare is a tough industry to work in and being a patient isn't exactly a piece of cake either. The pandemic only made it harder. However, I have consistently received good care (as has my spouse) regardless.

They were unbelievable dirty both visits in different rooms. I have diabetes and a sore on foot. I had to take my socks off as the dirt and grime on the floor made me afraid to put them in my shoes because I didn't want to rish spreading something to my open sore. The table they use to pull over with their instruments on had a big handprint of blood on the legs. The light used to look at you was dirty looking so while waiting I took some of the cleaning wipes and wiped it down good. Glad I did. I took plenty of pictures and will post what I can here. I hope I do not need to go there again. Not because of the care but the environment is a health hazard in my opinion.

This team failed to inform me of lab results (even though I never missed any appointments), encouraged meds during pregnancy, and basically ignored my birth plan by making me fast and talking to me about pitocin and epidural during labor (I specifically asked them to not offer me meds). Didn't leave the labor room when directly asked for space for me to think and talk w my family about my wishes on how to proceed with labor and delivery. I felt these women were very disingenuous (particularly Tamara Noy) and truly do not have patient and baby first in mind. My experience here is reflective of the bigger medical culture of provider convenience first, with big pharm second in line.
