Went to a free class on women's empowerment safety and had an absolute blast! From the start the staff welcomed us in and made us feel right at home. They never pushed you to do anything you weren't comfortable with but showed us some great ways to keep safe if ever in an unfortunate circumstance! From start to finish this group of amazing individuals were a 10/10! The mats, and all around were clean and comfortable. The little cubbies under the seats were perfect for all your belongings. Have you ever heard a parent say something to the tune of "my kid only listen to me when I yell and when I speak nicely to them they don't listen" personally I am not a fan of raising my voice to anyone, least of all my child but my son's father didn't share my sentiments. That being said this dojo changed so many things in a positive direction for us. I cannot express with words how wonderful this dojo is or how their children's class has helped so much to increase, not only the quality of our lives but also my child's focus, self- confidence and ability to follow through with directions/instructions. Before we started coming to this class, my son was having a hard time with following instructions, so much so that his behavior was on the verge of oppositional defiance. His father was raised with the old school mentality where respect = obedience and his frustration with our son's lack of obedience caused a lot of tension in their relationship. Yelling was a common and unproductive form of communication for this father son relationship. In the very beginning my son was very inattentive during class, and I was frustrated with his humming bird like attention span. Cameron was very attentive to my concerns and welcomed my feedback, he assured me that in time as long as I implement the point system at home that my son's maladaptive tendencies would turn around, honestly It was hard to believe at first, but I went all in and gave it an honest chance. Not long after I witnessed a obvious change in behavior, with Gracie's positive reinforcement point system and game-ified approach to teaching jujitsu, my son was begging to stay at this dojo all day long. After about a month and a half of having this positive reinforcement methods (perfectly executed by Cameron btw) and using the point system, my son is like a completely different child. He's done a complete 180 as far as listening and following instruction goes. if you follow the point system and implement the strategies consistently this system really does work. I truly can't sing my praises loud enough for what this jujitsu/character development class has done for my child. In addition to learning how to physically defend himself from bullying they also teach the kids how to verbally defend themselves from bullying as well as developing experience with manners, responsibility, health, respect and so much more. It may cost a bit extra but your not just paying for a drill and kill jujitsu experience, so it's totally worth every penny. My son looks up to Cameron, Josh, and Nikki so so much and will jump through hoops just to hear, "you did a good job buddy" from one of them. I believe kids need good role models in their life and all the instructors at this dojo are beyond amazing with the littles. sent my daughter and her friend there for a class because i thought they might like it. unfortunately my daughter came back to me saying that Breana was very rude and made mean comments about her needing to lose weight if she wanted to succeed in jiu jitsu among other remarks. i'm not sure what's empowering about being belittled by your instructor but i wouldn't recommend this business to any one else read more

I started taking classes at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Indio a few months ago. As a first time student I was super nervous and intimidated going in. I had tried another spot prior to contacting Gracie and it felt so sterile, strict and uncomfortable. Thank goodness I didn't give up my search there! After reading other positive reviews I reached out to the team at Gracie regarding the Women Empowered program. Nikki was quick to respond, very informative and super friendly. Immediately upon walking into the studio I felt welcomed. Cameron has an amazing way of keeping things light and comical while emphasizing the importance of the techniques being taught. All the instructors are very kind, warm and full of knowledge. I absolutely love it, look forward to class every week , and plan to continue. I have had the most incredible experience as someone with no background in martial arts. All of the instructors are incredibly patient and encouraging and tailor their guidance to each students needs. I started Women Empowered to help me feel more confident, but I was extremely nervous due to past traumas. Cameron and Nikki are absolutely wonderful when it comes to this. They are clearly trained in trauma response and are able to read non-verbal cues from their students to make them as comfortable as possible on the mat. I cannot recommend this enough to other women who are hesitant about trying this out. Fast forward from my first couple weeks and now I am also doing the Combatives (co-ed) course. I never dreamed I would have so much fun learning self defense. You get the sense that all the students want you to become proficient in all of the lessons and are super supportive and encouraging. I look forward to attending all of the classes and seeing how many of the moves are becoming more intuitive as my body develops muscle memory. If you are hesitant or afraid, I highly recommend that you reach out to Cameron to share your story. He is without a doubt one of the most compassionate individuals I have ever met. Cam and the team at Gracie Indio are fantastic! With young kids ages five and eight years old, I love to see the balance of character development as well as discipline in our weekly sessions. Cam is patient and firm with the students, meeting them at their level of understanding and yet challenging them to tackle tougher moves and concepts continually. Gracie Jiu Jitsu Indio is a phenomenal gym. My son and daughter (who are complete opposites in personalities) both love attending Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Where my son is more stoic and reserved, on the mat he is helpful and volunteering in his little sister's class and pushing himself in his own. I love watching his confidence grow. Where my daughter is more bold and expressive, she is getting opportunity to pay closer attention to the accompanying lessons like caring, manners, character, respect, etc. Not only do I see a strengthening in my kids bodies and confidence, but I see a strengthening in the character because of the pouring in of the team found here at the gym. This is a wonderful place to learn jiu jitsu and self defense. Cameron, Josh, and Tonya are excellent teachers and genuinely kind good people. I did the Women Empowered series with them. I had the privilege and opportunity to try out a class at this dojo. Growing up doing lots of different martial arts, I've seen martial arts dojos become more of a business than a preservation of the arts. This gym is definitely not one of those. The head instructor and owner are genuine people, and worthy of honor. More so, their humility reflects the culture of the gym. Not like any other jiu-jitsu studio you will ever attend. The staff (Cameron and Josh) are down to earth and approachable. They will answer your questions with sincerity. So, let's talk about it being a Gracie Certified Training Center. This holds them to a standard like no other. You don't have the usual routine of the "other" places in the valley where new students are just fresh meat for the seasoned guys to injure. At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Indio, you are made to feel welcome and given instruction before performing drills. You actually won't get to the "rolling" for quite some time as you get expert instruction while perfecting the moves first. Two other things of importance: 1. All moves learned are applicable in actual street encounters, not just competition. 2. Progress is not subjective, neither is advancement. You are given a card with your name on it. Each time you attend a class, it is marked off on your card. You know what classes you have attended and what classes you need. It is really that simple! If you skip a class because of work or family, you can review the instruction and drills online with free access as a member of the Gracie Certified Training Center!
