With the coaches help, I've lost over 40 pounds of fat in the span of a year and gained muscle mass. Urban Fitness emphasizes using free weights, focusing on form and technique before lifting heavy. You'll find that while you're able to squat heavy on machines, poor posture and bad habits from not bracing your core does little in the real world. The style of training can be transferred to every day chores from carrying bags of groceries up the stairs in one trip, to lifting your fridge while remodeling your kitchen. I never realized how little I could lift on my own without machines involved. The workouts are class based and has a coach demonstrating each set and correcting form. As intimidating as a class workout sounds, the community and friendship bond you will find in class are unmatched. It's really easy to make friends, especially if you're someone working from home and need a change of pace, this is a good place to go. The people I've met here became my family. We go on snowboarding trips and run spartan races together. It's not CrossFit and all levels are welcomed. The highly trained staff can provide all different levels of workouts whether you're new, looking for a challenge, or injured. There's something for everyone.

During my first dance class in my senior year of college I did 16 hours of extra credit, including mopping behind the good dancers, to get a B-. Yes, a B-. That did not look good on graduate school applications. I was not good at standing. That is not a typo. When I stood up with my weight toward my larger toes I fell on my face. Although I admired, and enjoyed dancing I could never do it or aerobics or any choreography set to music. Then, in 2008, I met Eduardo! I had heard of Zumba. I even had a Zumba video. Actually, I had two of them and couldn't follow them. I took Eduardo's class and I could follow it. It took practice but I could do it. Why could I do it? 1. Eduardo explains what you will be doing with each song 2. Then, he demonstrates after the description 3. Instead of just standing at the front of the class he makes it ALL the way around the classroom, studio or gym (yes, I said gym the man can cover an entire basketball court) to help, you praise you, or have fun with you. Oh, and make no mistake, if you don't do it right the first time he will invite you to do it over. 4. He phases routines in and out slowly. Sometimes, he brings older songs back. 5. Regardless of your fitness level, you leave his class with a good, thorough workout and cool down as well as basic instruction on what to eat to recover. He works you hard and you see results. You will enjoy getting those results. You will want to follow Eduardo wherever he goes for fitness instruction.

You probably thought you couldn't go anymore because the classes are now inside a private club or you would have to join it. WRONG! Guys and gals--you can still come to class and get a punch card like you used at Just Dance Ballroom, and you do NOT have to be a member of the club. So if you've been thinking of doing a fun, challenging (more challenging than regular zumba), latin-based, cardio dance class, please do not let the huge scary stop sign at the entrance stop you. Just go straight up the stairs to the right to the dance room. And do not be intimidated by the choreography, especially your first time. If you get a few basic repeated moves down, you will be able to sweat your little heart out and get a good workout after a few sessions--which is the whole point. I can do my 5 mile run once a week, but this is still the most productive hour in my week. I cross two tunnels each time to get here, and it's more than worth it. Eduardo is still after all these years, the best zumba around the bay.

Mary is the owner and coordinator of the program and is great with communication. They also put together events outside of the class so the moms can get to know each other. As opposed to my gym, I actually GO to these classes so they're not a waste of money. Also, you meet nice mommies and their babies, you feel supported (all levels are body shapes welcome!), and definitely inspired. I highly recommend you give it a try! Kept with him through my pregnancy... And now need him to get back into shape postpartum. What I love most about Roderick is his holistic approach to fitness. If you just want killer pecs, he's probably not the trainer for you. He believes in a balanced full body approach to training where you focus most on the muscle groups that are required for good health and longevity... He'll evaluate your posture, range of motion, areas of weakness to craft the right routine. And he's always mixing it up so routines don't get tedious. He also gives guidance on rolling out, nutrition, sleep habits, stress reduction, etc. since good health is about far more than just fitness. I also really enjoy my time with Roderick... And liking your trainer makes it a lot easier to get in the gym! He has a very calming presence and warm nature. Some of my favorite moments during our workouts are the breaks in between circuits (duh) when we chat about everything from politics & world history to music, parenting, & science (he loves Science Channel).

I hear his voice telling me that "nutrition determines how much you weigh, and training determines how you look at that weight". Roderick is so much more than a trainer, he really is a health coach. I highly, highly, recommend Roderick to anyone who wants to put their wellness as a priority.

I have worked with trainers at high-level tennis academies and in collegiate athletics, and I can…read moresay without hesitation that Luca is the best trainer I have ever worked with. What sets Luca apart is not simply technical knowledge, but an extraordinary ability to translate movement into feeling. Luca's explanations, demonstrations, and carefully chosen cues allow me to make meaningful connections in my own body. I have struggled for years with tight hips, limited mobility, and a fractured back that often made movement painful and uncertain. Luca recognized immediately that so much of that tension originated in my hips and lower body, and with remarkable patience we have devoted ourselves to strengthening those areas. The results have been nothing short of transformative. I am now squatting and deadlifting--movements I once associated only with pain and the fear of further injury. Even more importantly, I carry Luca's cues with me every time I train on my own. This experience has changed not just how I exercise, but how I inhabit my body. In a world that constantly alienates us from ourselves--through screens, endless sitting, work, comparison, and the pressure to look a certain way--Luca offers the opportunity to reconnect with your body from the inside out. There are no mirrors in the gym because the goal is not performance for an audience or chasing an image. The focus is on sensation, awareness, and discovering what your body is capable of feeling. Every session leaves me more alive, more grounded, and more grateful to be embodied. I never leave exhausted in the way I once thought a "good workout" required; I leave energized, confident, and deeply connected to myself. Luca approaches every client with exceptional care and attention, meeting each person where they are and helping them build strength not as an end in itself, but as a way of expanding freedom, resilience, and joy in everyday life. That is a remarkable gift, and I cannot recommend Luca highly enough.

I had always had a very negative connotation around the gym and held a deep belief that it wasn't a space for my body to inhabit. From the initial Zoom call to our first session, Luca's attentiveness made me feel truly supported and understood, easing my anxieties. Luca's approach to mobility and strength training is grounded in listening to your body without limiting it. I felt incredibly encouraged by the pace, but also challenged to dig into the strength I already have. Luca pays amazing attention to form and breath, laying the foundations that accommodate a variety of body types. I always leave feeling grateful for the workout, the lessons learned, the conversations, and the confidence I've gained through this supportive community at Radically Fit!
