The Gramercy Theatre is the same spot for the annual Intern Queen Event since the year of 2011. Sometimes, the space is used for concerts. Considered as decent size for a venue. Bag policy is strictly enforced with everyone's bags getting searched through by security guards before gaining entry to the event and/or venue. However, the capacity wise of the basement can get jam-packed very quickly with a few hundreds of attendees. Several separate rooms are downstairs if there happen to be different stations/activations going on. - Simple Hairstyling - Hair Tinsel - Photo Booth - Water Bottle Engraving - Keychain Charm Station - Snack Corner The stage area by the front is raised and medium-size in the main room. Better for a smaller and more intimate crowd of audience. For the Intern Queen event, rows of folded chairs are temporarily being set up very close to the stage. Therefore, not much room is in between of each row either. As for concerts, the seating area would usually be used as general admission standing room instead. Limited rows of older theater-style seating are within all the way towards the back. There seems to be no bad or abstract views in the theater from whichever seat you happen to be sitting in. Only one LED screen is found for the audience to see whatever is happening on stage which is better than nothing I guess. Although like most of the broadway theaters in Times Square, the legroom here at Gramercy Theatre is tightly-spaced and almost inadequate as well. Just imagine the uncomfortable feeling of your knees pressing against the back of the seat if someone in front of you is leaning back in his/her seat. You would just have to bear with it for the time being if you happen to be taller or have a bigger body frame. Small bar area on each corner of the section where the folded chairs are. Drinks are super expensive on the menu. There're both men's and women's restrooms located on the lower level. Size wise is on the smaller side. Intimate spot off West 23rd street to catch a concert. Mainly standing room on the floor in front of the stage with balcony seating in the back. As it's a small joint the sightlines are good from anywhere. Decent sound too. There are two small bars off the sides of the main floor selling ridiculously overpriced beers and cocktails. Coat room and bathroom downstairs. Had a great time seeing Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg here the other night. Highly recommend if you're a fan of the NYC punk legends the Ramones. read more

Went here for a 7pm show Friday night. Theatre was much smaller than I anticipated. I guess the upside to that is even if you're all the way at the top/back, the view is still not bad. The seats themselves weren't uncomfortable but they are too close together, like barely any elbow room. Especially since it's colder out now and we were all wearing jackets coats with nowhere to hang them. The bathrooms are very small and very dirty. Like they don't clean in between shows? We had drinks and popcorn at the bar. The drinks were really good! I loved the dragon fruit margarita and it had a really good amount of alcohol. The popcorn was decent. The prices weren't too bad, after all it's the city. And the bartender was great. read more

The theatre is smaller than I expected. The staff were all helpful. Bartenders were slow. If you are going to get a drink def arrive earlier than your show to get your drink. Lastly, what really disappointed me and made me give it 3 stars was the fact that the ladies room was out of tissue....in every stall. That's completely unacceptable. The bathroom should've been stocked prior to a show starting and guest arrival. Otherwise facility was clean, cozy. If I do come back here I would get a seat off the side of the stage with a table so I'm not squeezed up on others. Caught a show here recently and it was a solid experience overall. Great location and super easy to get to via subway and there are tons of great places to eat nearby. We hit Gupshup after the show and it made for a perfect night out. Staff at the venue were really friendly and helpful too, especially with directions and security. The theater itself has a good amount of seating, but if you're thinking Loge, maybe skip the middle section or at least get sufficiently high enough so that your view isn't obstructed. That's where the sound crew sets up and it can kinda block the view or make things feel a little off. There are a couple bars upstairs and one downstairs, so grabbing drinks isn't a hassle. They serve the usual theater stuff like cocktails, wine, popcorn, pretzels with that neon cheese. Bathrooms are fine and right near the entrance. Definitely tight and a bit of a squeeze, so plan accordingly if the place is packed. Overall nice small/intimate venue! read more

Went to see IAMDDB with a friend who had a last minute ticket. The venue is gorgeous with 2 floors. The bottom floor has the bathroom and coat check. The carpets and gold frames complemented each other very well. Coat check was easy and their system made the line move quickly at the end of the show. There's general admission and seating available. I like that the show was a bit more intimate so there was a lot of space to breathe in GA. The bar is priced as expected but drinks were okay. Security was very friendly actually! Before I begin this one, I must admit I was surprised to have done a wealth of Yelps about the pre-gaming times done before I was heading into a show at the Gramercy Theatre and yet, there has never before been a Yelp from me about the actual event space. According to Setlist.fm, I have seen a total of "332" gigs at the venue and that means that a tour stop with five bands means five gigs. It's likely much higher because I didn't always check the box on the listing earlier on but I digress. The Gramercy Theatre was built in 1937 and over the years has served a number of different purposes from vaudeville to cinema to now a concert venue and event space. I remember seeing movies here many years ago and am glad that its become a concert venue since so many of the tours that I am interested in are stopping here. It holds about 600-650 if I am correct and the space is parsed into a general admission floor and a seated movie house type seats in the back. Depending on the event these seats are also either first come first served or assigned by the ticket. Generally speaking the first couple of rows are dedicated to band and industry guests or media attendees. There are two bars on the main floor on either side of the venue and its a full bar so you can get almost anything including soda and water. Some snacks are generally available as well with popcorn and chips and they are priced like a regular bar or movie theatre. I can say that the sightlines are really good in the Gramercy and if you feel like shelling out a few extra bucks you can sit in a VIP area which is a little off the floor and fits about 20 people max. There is also a photo pit if you're someone who is visiting the venue for the purposes of media assignment and have a pass that permits your presence in that area for the allotted time devoted to such things. Downstairs there is another bar and the lounge areas. This space is often used for the bands to sell their merchandise so if there are five bands the space is less amenable to the patrons since the tables are all there hawking the goodies to help fund the bands efforts. There is also a coat check but that is not always open and an additional all-gender restroom. Several television screens show the upstairs action down there and if the crowd is crazy and too much for you, you can head down there to sip a drink and enjoy the gig in relative peace. Having seen the amount of concerts and a handful of screenings here I can say that I've always found the staff and security to be good natured. Of course there are times when they need to be a little more stern if anyone is getting out of control. Don't be that customer. Now perhaps you are not a concert goer of the Metal shows that I do. I noticed that Gramercy Theatre also hosts live podcasts, comedy, speaking engagements and other genres of music. It's fully owned by Live Nation Entertainment so they have a nice pick of what can come into the house. There is also a customer WiFi but I have found this is a coin toss as to it working or not. I hope that's addressed at some point since I like to do social media from concerts to help my brands. Oh and as far as those pre-gaming spaces are concerned, almost all of the ones that I loved the most, Duke's, Live Bait and some of the other food establishments, have shuttered and not returned. The Gramercy theater has been around for a long time. Not sure how it was my first time here just very recently. Not someplace to look forward to going to though it has some rich history.At one point I learned it was a movie theater. They usually have music performances here and other types of shows too. The security here I did not have anything bad to say about them. I found them actually nice. It was annoying a little to have to wait outside in the cold or find some place to go around the area to keep warm. But oh well that is their policy. When we were let in and got to my seat I asked the usher what time show started she told me 8pm. And all along I thought it started at 7 as on ticket it says 7. Does not say doors open at 7 and show starts at 8. Anyways, I wanted to try and get an aisle seat when I saw that I was not on an aisle seat so I asked the usher how I can possibly change seats, she said to go to box office which I did. The box office person was not the nicest. I asked if I could exchange/get an aisle seat, the person said you can buy another ticket for an aisle but they couldn't exchange or change the ticket. I was like oh no it's ok but thank you. Not sure what the big deal is, esp since It was not a sold out show. Even at big Broadway shows they are nicer when I have asked to change seats. The theater is smallish with a back area of all seats, like stadium seats in a way. Usually l, it seems that the floor does not have chairs, but for the show I saw it does have them. There are two small bars on either side of the floor area. I cannot believe the small beer was like 15-16.00! The water I got was 6 something ( more reasonable). There is a downstairs lounge area where there is a bigger bar and some tables and chairs to hang at before show starts. This is also where merch was being sold for this show. Honestly, if it was not for me reading some other reviews about this place, I would have not known there was a lounge area. I have read some reviews where they talk about the bathrooms here. I can't speak on that since I stayed away from them. All in all, Will I be back again? As a local I will only come back if an artist I really want to see will be here. Dec. 21, 2025: Went to see a comedy show , but was not that impressed. It was over 40 yrs since I was at this theater when they had shown movies. I took my son with me since it has been years I was at a comedy show. Jiaoying Summers, Asian comedian was not as funny as I thought she would be. It was a sold out crowd, but many did not stay till the end. The first comedy individual was not funny at all. Paid for coat check in but no one directed me or answered my questions when asked. First time being here last night, went to see brass against. Security and ticket check were quick. Small venue, you literally walk 20 feet past the door and you are in the theatre. Sound system was good, did not get overly warm inside. Did not check out the restrooms, can't comment on that. Would return if there's an artist I like. read more

My first visit to the Gramercy was May of this year. Been back twice since. It's a really nice little, intimate theater to see a show. As most places in Manhattan, it's pretty easy to get to. The 23rd stop on the M/F line leaves you a few blocks away. The 6 leaves you closer at just a block down. Strong piece of advice from me is to always buy the Quick Pass to get in first. As it gets closer to when doors open, they will go around asking if you have a Quick Pass. You show them then you get put on a different queue. The place is small so the front by the stage gets filled up as soon as the first people get in. Also, there's first come first served seating so if you get in first, you'll have your pick of the litter when it comes to seating. The staff are friendly and the security checks are efficient. There's a downstairs area that has the merch tables, coat check, bathrooms and a lounge area with a bar that also has light bites. Upstairs is the main part of the venue. Like I mentioned before, this place is tiny. I haven't been to a sold out show here before so I can only imagine how crowded it can get. Sound is pretty good. There's a VIP section to the left of the stage with seating and service. There are also 2 bars. One on the left side and one on the right. The bars up there have chips, popcorn and gummy bears. I got a gin and tonic and a big box of popcorn for $30 with tip. Decent enough. This was an old movie theater. You can still feel that vibe. They shot The Fugees video for "Killing Me Softly" here. As I've both stood at the front here and also sat in the seats I can honestly say that the seats are a million times better. You're not squashed and you have a great view. The first row or 2 is usually reserved for VIP but other than that, you get your choice. When I come by myself, I like to sit in the single seat. Very convenient. Don't have to subject yourself to getting up and down to let people in your row. What keeps me from giving this 5 stars is the annoying thing that happened last month when I was here. I had my Quick Pass (which always costs $10) and was let in first. The opening band was still doing sound check so we weren't allowed in. We had to wait downstairs. At this point they let half of the people in, including people who didn't have Quick Pass. So it was all a big mess waiting downstairs. After about 15-20 minutes they let us all in. Why did the people who paid extra to get in first get in with everyone else? That's really not fair. Hopefully that was a 1 time thing because I didn't have that experience the other times I visited. When I learned that a band that I adored was playing at Gramercy Theatre, I immediately was picturing the place in my head...or, rather, what I thought looked like the theatre. After researching it, I learned that I had been confusing it with Irving Plaza and had, in fact, never been to Gramercy. Upon my arrival, I found the entry staff nice, yet diligent about checking ids and inspecting bags (they need to be small, but not clear), which I could appreciate. The main floor held the stage with a decent amount of standing room just in front of it, as well as several rows of stadium seating coming down from the opposite end of the room, for which tickets cost a bit more. There were also two bars, which were even advertising the few fruity mocktails they had on offer. The acoustics were incredible, allowing each band to sound clear and powerful. Downstairs, there was an ideal space for relaxing between sets; it housed the merch tables, as well as a cool cellar bar with brick walls that made it feel like a hip, cozy hideaway. All in all, I thought Gramercy Theatre was an intimate and high-quality spot for seeing a concert. read more

First time coming to a show here. I originally wasn't sure if I was going to come because the show was on a Wednesday night, in the middle of the work week. But I was in the city anyway, so bought a ticket the night before. I knew the artists playing and the acoustics in the hall let these alt rock bands play their music with clarity and it was one of the better experiences I've had at a live concert. I did order a drink, I wasn't sure what I wanted so the person asked me some questions to help me decide which was nice. I was told my drink costed $13. This was fine. But when I gave my card, they charged it on the machine without showing me. I walked away a little sketched because that is strange, you don't really get a receipt telling you. In the venue, I opened my mobile card app to see how much was charged. It was nearly $18. I do understand tax charges are a little higher in New York State but it's not $5 on a $13 purchase, meaning there's a surcharge for card payments they didn't mention or they charged a tip without showing me and it's mandatory. It is courtesy to tip, I don't mind, but I don't like that they took it without saying anything. I don't know how they decide it but I don't think that's right as they can really charge you anything. They probably charge you enough where they take a tip but it's not large enough where you would have serious issues to the point of complaining. Gramercy Theatre is a nice cozy venue, with a generous amount of seating, a good sized General Admission, and two small bars on each side of GA. There's also an enclosed area with tables and stools that give you an up close and personal view of the stage that allows you to get so close you could almost touch the performers. Downstairs is a lounge area that has a nice atmosphere. I've been here for concerts a few times, I've always enjoyed myself, including seeing Belphegor this past weekend. The area it's located in is also pretty good, easy to walk to from Penn Station, or you can take a cab. I can't give it 5 stars though for two reasons. 1) I paid $93 for a ticket with access to seating, because of issues I have with my feet. $93 got me a tiny wooden stool that I had trouble sitting on because of how tall it was. It was very nice to get close to the stage, without worrying about having another dude from the mosh pit flying into me, but for half that price I could have gotten a more comfortable seat! 2) My girlfriend and I wanted seltzers, they had non-alcoholic Liquid Death, problem was I had to cough up $12 for two cans. $12 for two tall boy cans of seltzer...I could have bought them from (insert pricey healthy/organic grocery chain name here) for MUCH cheaper, and snuck 'em in! On the other hand the staff and bar tender were nice. I had an issue with accessing my ticket, and the staff at the Box Office helped me right away! Overall I enjoy coming here, and I'm looking forward to returning for another gig in the future, but I won't buy food or drinks form here. Too pricey! read more

Saw 2 Elvis Costello shows here and couldn't have been more satisfied. Super easy / fast entry, good bar options and short lines and clean and available bathrooms. Sound was a bit muted given it's an old movie theater with average acoustics, but overall great experience. Comfortable seats and well organized merchandise selling area downstairs. Sat in the Loge (row BB one night and FF the next), which is still close enough and with a good view unless you're behind the mixing board (which is a huge area). Security has a power trip for no reason. Constantly kicking out people, having an attitude, and just overall being rude to concert goers that pay a lot of money to be there. Security took my water away, advil, and stomach pills (I desperately needed it for my condition). I tried to convince the security guard I needed it (Short lady with curly hair always wearing a vest) and she just threw it away without any consideration for my health. They're acting like I was trying to bring percs into the venue or something. I take photos for these events and the lighting is amazing, but the security makes the experience so unpleasant and annoying. Security only allowed me to take photos for 3 songs from each artist (standard rule) but they made me leave the media area each time. Meaning I had to stand in the audience with my camera, then come back to the media pit when a new artist performed which is ridiculous. Security needs to be humbled because they acting like they work at MSG. read more

Cool midtown concert hall in NYC that appears to be converted from Old 70's movie theater. I came to say seeing the newest version of the Black Crowes here which was a treat. Our tickets were in the Loge Seats which gave us access to the seats and floor which was a nice option. Now you I highly recommend purchasing the cut the line pass , it's worth every penny. Come on cutting in front of people who waited hours is awesome. Once your in head up front on the rail or unless your 6'6" I'd recommend the seating area. Great views and sound is perfect by the mixing boards. If your looking for merchandise it's all the way downstairs by the coat check area. If you need cocktails I saw 2 bars on the main floor however a tad pricy for a tiny drink. $12 for a rum & pineapple drink ( wahhhhhh )! I'd say drop the drink prices down and you'll sell more booze. So to sum up the experience : A+ for band A+ for line & security staff A+ for cool theater C for booze pricing Well, that's it from the Gramercy Theater, I'm outa here. read more

Came here to see Pete Yorn in early Nov of 2014 and I had a fab time! I love small venues like this for music--reasonable ticket prices and intimate atmosphere being the two primary draws. It was also interesting that this place happened to be around the corner from where I used to live in the late 90s when I was going to school here. Bummed this place wasn't around then, and I forget what this place used to be, but the well-worn interior makes it feel like it's been here forever (or at least since the 70s). At any rate, I did love the drink specials named after the performer's songs (for the record, I had the "Life on a Chain", which was a Pabst Blue Ribbon tallboy with a well shot--yeehaw! Living the high life in Manhattan, let me tell you! Pete sounded awesome and I had a great time. Wouldn't hesitate to go back for another show here. The venue here is actually nice. I was here last night for a website launch event. BEST OF BOTH OFFICES event.. 2 Chainz performed here and YES, for free we got to see him. The crowd was really live, very into the event at least when there were artists you actually heard of. I liked the setup here better than most other concerts I have been to recently. Ace Hood and GunPlay also performed last night with Asher Roth. He did a good performance as well. I had a seat in the back for a while then headed to the front right side of the stage when 2 Chainz finally came by at the end.
