I did not go during a concert, but it is free to access, there are some restaurants and bars downstairs, there are free bathrooms (which is always clutch when on vacation) that are really nice and clean. The view of the bridge and Brooklyn and the city are amazing. The boardwalk area has a bunch of seating where you can just chill and soak up the sun, the vibes, and the views. Lots of people were walking their dogs around, so if you are a dog person, that can be fun. read more

1 Star - Disappointing and Unwelcoming Experience I booked this as a "bucket list" cherry blossom experience, but unfortunately, the service did not match expectations. Upon arrival for our reserved time, a host assisted guests ahead of us and stepped away. Shortly after, another host came to the check-in area but completely overlooked my partner and me, instead assisting a couple behind us in the reserved line. This was noticeable and immediately set a negative tone. After seating them, the host returned and asked if we had been helped. When I said no, another staff member was called over to seat us. While we were eventually accommodated, the initial interaction made us feel dismissed and unwelcome from the start. The experience did not improve. Our food was delayed with little to no communication, and the service remained inattentive throughout. In addition, the seating area was uncomfortably cold, with only a small space heater attempting to warm what felt like a large, open structure. We ultimately decided to leave early. A more senior host did apologize as we were packing up to go, which I appreciate, but by that point the overall experience had already been impacted. While there is a food hall here which is a mini version of Chelsea market, we didn't get an opportunity to try out any of the food. What we really came here for was the pumpkin arch and the view of the bridge. This is the perfect spot for a panoramic view and we couldn't miss our opportunity to catch one. This was one of the top 10 (free) things to do if you're visiting NYC for the first time. There was not a line to take a picture under the arch and everyone there was friendly and took pictures for each other. If you have more time, we definitely recommend taking your picture, walking around the pier, and grabbing a bite to eat. read more

Love this photo op every fall i try to come. Today i came around 130pm, so there was a short line. However, i believe there should be someone assigned during certain hours to make sure no one is just standing in the back or sitting on the bench meant to take pics when there's plenty of seating in the area. There is nothing like an outdoor, rooftop concert in the summer... especially if there's a thunderstorm rolling through. Honestly, even with the postponed show, the herding us inside when the thunder started and back out when it stopped, the not being totally sure if the concert would even happen and the constant rain, it was a great night and an even better show. The venue itself is worth the trip. You have a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge, they don't over crowd you so you can actually breath and enjoy the space, and you've got a few different bar areas, so lines don't get too long. I saw Dispatch here not long ago and it just happened to be on yet another rainy day. The venue was keeping folks pretty up to date on their IG & allowed reentry, so we were able to find a spot for some food and a drink to wait out the storm. 5 stars even with the overpriced drinks, chaos from the weather and the 10:00 curfew that meant the setlist was cut a bit short. Came here to see Jesse McCartney in concert at The Rooftop at Pier 17. Being in South Street Seaport is absolutely beautiful, there are plenty of shops and restaurants to eat at before the show. The stage has the Brooklyn Bridge in the background so at night it looks beautiful. This is a standing room venue so be prepared to stand for the duration of the show. My only complaint is that some of the staff were guiding people to the wrong area and when it came time for my meet & greet after the show, I wound up almost out of the venue completely and almost had trouble getting back in. One other thing was that since I had a meet & greet VIP package, I had early entry into the venue. But we weren't brought through the metal detector nor were any of our bags checked. read more

I was very surprised with the venue upon entering the rooftop venue with really nice views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge backdrop behind the stage. These tickets also included the Sapphire lounge, so it came with an open bar and there was food served, which was mainly finger food and sandwiches. Thinking about seeing a show at Pier 17? Yes, drinks are extortionately priced. Yes, the crowd can be full of selfie-taking influencers (and the Seaport itself can be overrun with tourists). Yes, the staff is a crapshoot between on point (a pleasant surprise when it happens), and not caring at all. But you truly can't be sad about seeing a band you like rock out on a Manhattan rooftop with great sound quality, a breeze blowing, expansive views of the Hudson River, and the Brooklyn Bridge right behind the stage. The band couldn't even believe how nice the venue is. Check out the lineup for summer, and do yourself a favor and get over there. I've also been back since just to wander around the pier down below (eateries and drinkeries and more), and it's equally wonderful on a gorgeous summer day. I recently attended another excellent Summer concert at The Rooftop at Pier 17, but, this time, I was upgraded to the Liberty Club level. The ticket add-on granted us entry to the roof via a private elevator. But, the perks did not stop there. We also received access to a stunning indoor bar and lounge, as well as a sprawling outdoor patio with tons of seating. Inside there were small buffets of complementary food items, including baba ghanoush, hummus, guacamole, pita points, tortilla chips, Caesar salad, heirloom tomato and cucumber salad, chicken shawarma sandwiches, pigs in a blanket, and chicken salad sandwiches on thick, crusty bread. We filled our plates and sat out on the patio to enjoy our meal. All of the food items were excellent and worth the upgrade on their own. While we could not see the stage from the patio, we could still hear the music and view the action on large television screens. We did, however, venture out to the stage during the main act. Lastly, we had received special wristbands that also included beverages, so we indulged in some terrific Patron margaritas. These add-ons completely spoiled me, and I would highly consider the upgrade for subsequent shows. read more

It's an imperfect science to balance the rating of the venue itself (lovely) but with the crowd (often terrible). Pier 17 itself isn't to blame for the depravity of the scumbags who don't have the attention span for an 80-minute Stray Cats concert. As opposed to free-range outdoor venues like PNC's lawn, there's not huge square footage. The choice is heading for "the pit", where the serious fans are more likely to be found and if they still don't STFU, the concert audio will drown out at least some of their chatter. But if you don't want full-body contact, the less crowded sections in the back will be full of people who want to say they went to concert but don't actually care about music. It's bad enough that conversation during acoustic music is commonplace, worse that the violators will yell to be heard over amplified concerts. Security, entry and egress are reasonable. Bathrooms are way better than Forest Hills, maybe not up to Live Nation quality. Sound quality was impeccable for the rockabilly stylings of the Cats. read more

it was so crowded here on July 4th, but understandably so. quite a bit of shops and food stops around here, including food trucks and sit-in restaurants, which I like, but oh my goodness, if you are going to eat outside, prepare for the influx of people coming around your table because they are trying to walk on the sidewalk. it was so squished on the seating area, but again, there is a reason for the police security forces and the ticket reservations. if you plan to reserve, book within a week out, so that you can secure spots with a peace of mind. The security really did not let anyone through without proof of their reservations and they would force you to take the long way around :( beautiful waterfront with the yachts, but hard to visualize during the nighttime. nonetheless, the bustling of happy people and open air from the water body made it all better for the crowded feeling. read more

Wow, what a great night seeing two terrific bands here. Excellent venue! Good acoustics and lighting. Plenty of space. Huge clean bathrooms. Plenty of drink vendors. (Expensive tho) Efficient friendly staff. No hassles getting in or out. Many parking garages nearby and a fair amount of street parking after 7:00. Right next to Fulton St. subway stop and close to City Hall. Shows start on listed time and have to end at 10:00 for curfew. Love this. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect at the pier but it was definitely not this. Pier 17 has a ton of stuff to do. There's multiple restaurants at the pier at the entrance and as you walk down the pier there are a couple of buildings that have multiple restaurants and shops. There is plenty of seating on benches and multi level wide stairs. There was a huge dog meetup when I was here and it was AWESOME! Walking up and down the pier there are great views of the rivers, bridges and Brooklyn skyline. There was a huge lineup that we found out was for a concert so there's also that! read more

This is a great venue to attend a concert at. The view from the rooftop was amazing. The general admission aspect was very calm and not rushed at all. Usually people are running and shoving and pushing through, but not at this venue. It felt pretty relaxed. I ended up having a pretty close and great view of the artist. Would definitely come back. One of my favorite concert venues! When I think of concerts, I usually think of bright lights, expensive drinks, and a fun time but it also comes with sticky floors, stuffy and humid air, and tired legs but when I came to Pier 17 for a concert, it was such a nice change of scenery from your typical concert venue! First off, it's on a rooftop so it offered breathtaking views of the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge. Secondly, it was open air so the breeze was much appreciated. As for the tired legs, I loved that there were benches along the side of the venue so we were able to rest our legs after standing for a while. My only tip is to make sure you're properly dressed for the weather (it got pretty cold up there at night) but other than that, it was a great time! read more

First time going to The Rooftop Pier 17 to watch James Arthur perform and sing and will never return to this place/venue again. Not because of James Arthur, his performance and set was great, but because of the rude staff. One staff member I am specifically referring to is one that works at the food and drinks stand. I walked up to the counter to place an order for my friend and myself which consisted of: a hotdog, chicken tenders and orange juice. I then asked the cashier if the juice they served there was sweet (I was thinking about getting one for myself). He (the cashier) looks at me deadpan for about 3 seconds then laughed and explains that he is laughing because 3 other people asked him the same thing. Well, I'm thinking, if several people have asked the same question, that should indicate that customers care about the sweetness level in their drinks, especially those with dietary restrictions or health concerns. I guess consumers do not deserve to know what they ingest in their bodies. Rather than answer respectfully, I was met with mockery and an attempt at humiliation. He seemed annoyed and even questioned why I used the term "fruit juice," despite it being listed that way on the menu. I decided not to order a juice for myself. He then precedes to ask where I was from, insinuating that my question was "otherly," "dumb" and meant that I must have come from somewhere other than New York City. I still do not understand the relevance in him asking that question at all. It was also a blatant microaggression. He continues talking on and on to the point where he forgets my order and I had to restate it to him again. I relay it to him again, while at the same time, trying to understand their point in doing all of this. Overall, I felt as though they went out of their way to make me feel inferior, and I left the stand feeling unnecessarily uncomfortable. I tried to enjoy the show afterwards, but could not stop replaying this interaction in my mind. It tainted what would have been a heartfelt and enjoyable experience. I'm embarrassed that this transaction will appear on my next bank statement. Ironically, I have never been made to feel so out of place in my own hometown. read more

Visited Pier17 for the first time and loved it! It was such a nice and refreshing place in the city especially during this fall season. My main goal really was to see their Pumpkin arch and it was beautiful! From where it is placed, you can also see the Brooklyn Bridge and both together just comes out as a beautiful view. The place can get crowded though but otherwise still fun. There are restaurants such as Malibu Farm and Momofuku and more options inside the Tin Building. The best time to visit may really be fall season where its not too cold and not too hot. Definitely a little less crowd with the kids back to school as well. The entire place is kept fairly clean with lots of space and chairs/benches for crowds to just relax and spend some time there. Its definitely a cool spot and a place you can bring family/friends and visitors for a nice sightseeing option. read more

I had to most wonderful experience! I had a beautiful 4-hour happy hour mocktail session with a couple colleagues, one of which I had just met for the first time. The service was incredible, VERY attentive to our needs and taste buds. As a recovering alcoholic, I truly TRULY value a venue that takes me (us) into consideration SO much that they master the art of mocktails. The quality, the flavor combinations and blends are crafted just perfectly. I barely ate I was so satisfied but the apps I tasted were top notch too. I've been to this pretty venue for several events. This is a great rooftop, especially on a nice summer day. If you look south you can see the Statue of Liberty. If you look north you can see the Brooklyn bridge. I find drinks served there to be watered down and nothing to write home about. Food I've had there. While good can be quite surprising. At one event we all ordered empanadas and the people who didn't eat meat got meat empanadas. The people who ordered meat empanadas got meat empanadas. The people who ordered any other empanada got meat. They really just didn't care what they handed people despite clearly placed orders and transactions. The lines for food are so chaotic that it feels like you are lucky to have the privilege of purchasing food at all. Other than that it is great. read more

Such a cool area!! Great spot to bring visitors or even a date?! I was here over ten years ago and they have completely transformed Seaport. The surrounding streets are cute, cobblestone and lots of shops and eateries to wander into. The pier itself has a number of shops and restaurants as well. We didn't get a chance to go on the rooftop because they were setting up for a concert (mental note to attend one day!) but the views from the pier of Brooklyn are amazing. read more

Wow what a great venue for a concert! This beautiful rooftop is first very spacious, no one is brushing up against you all night. Second they have both drinks and food which is a plus if you get hungry or thirsty throughout the show. They are mostly standing room but some people did have places to sit towards the very back. The stage was pretty big and it was fairly easy to see Jason Mraz from anywhere you are standing on the rooftop. Audio was great as well. The staff here was very helpful and courteous. Leaving was a little anxiety inducing with everyone trying to get out through just 2 escalators. Did a VIP package for the artist Tove Lo. Security and Staff was very sweet but didn't seem like everyone was on the same page. A lot of waiting around and Had to re-enter after the meet and greet which was frustrating having to do security multiple times. There was a very odd security guard at the rail that was being very distracting and weird. He was selective with handing out Ponchos and Water, kinda teasing people who were trying to focus on the show. One women really needed a poncho and he kept making excuses and handing them out to other people until finally gave her one. Not sure what his deal was but made the experience less enjoyable. At one point I had to tell him to back off cause he kept trying to get my attention. Even asked a nice person next time to me if she would give me a hug for him. Very uncomfortable. Super disrespectful to the performers, I came to see them not this security guard. Please get better, more focused guards for the rail. Great venue for a concert but relatively poor execution with the entrance/security check. For a concert that was scheduled to begin at 7pm with doors opening at 6:30pm, we arrived at 6:45pm and waited on a line that circled around the entire complex (and with a lot of people arriving after us). We finally got in at 7:25pm. Ticketmaster had also sent instructions to add the tickets to your wallet on your cellphone and show them from there but the person checking tickets said that didn't work and had everyone go through the Ticketmaster app. Once inside though, the experience was great. There was a good amount of space, the acoustics were fine and food and drinks were readily available for purchase. read more
