Gramma Sharron's is a perfectly decent diner. We came here after Williston High School's graduation ceremony. It was late on a Sunday afternoon and there weren't that many customers. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. Maybe the best part was the three painted and decorated cow sculptures out front. They reminded of several years back when decorated pigs were sprinkled throughout downtown Seattle. We came here for a late lunch, but noticed that they had a Sunday buffet for $18.95 that goes until 2pm. You can't beat that price for a buffet. So our table ordered cheeseburgers, biscuits and gravy, the all-you-can-eat salad bar, walleye salmon and the hamburger steak dinner. A note about the walleye salmon. This fish is actually a perch and exists in local water bodies around here. Everything was very good with the possible exception of the gravy on the biscuits. My nephew noted that something tasted weird in the gravy. I suspected it was nutmeg that my nephew was tasting. I sampled the gravy, and sure enough, it had been strongly spiced with nutmeg. Also, the walleye salmon (perch) had a bit of a fishy flavor, though the sandwich it came in was fine otherwise. I though the fish portion looked a bit svelte. The hamburger steak dinner, which included the onions & mushroom add-on was excellent. The brown gravy was delicious. We'd definitely come back. read more

The first day out on a 14 day drive about Home to Banff and Glacier we stopped in Williston ND had dinner at a place called Gramma Sharon's. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. While working in Williston, ND, I kept hearing folks talk about Grandma Sharron's, just about everyone I ran into recommended it. Naturally, I had to see what the buzz was about. One afternoon, I lost track of time and ended up heading over pretty late for lunch, walking in around 2:30 PM. I noticed they closed at 3 PM for a short break before reopening at 4, but I figured I'd take my chances, and I'm glad I did. I was greeted right away and seated promptly. I chose to sit at the bar, which gave me a great view of the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff in action. A few other guests were finishing up their meals and chatting in nearby booths, which added to the relaxed, smalltown vibe. Originally, I was craving a burger, but I wasn't in the mood for something too heavy. That's when I spotted the walleye bites on the menu. I asked my waitress what she thought of them, and without hesitation, she told me they hand-bread them lightly and make them fresh to order. That was all I needed to hear. What arrived was better than I expected, about a dozen perfectly cooked, lightly breaded walleye bites that practically melted in my mouth. The breading was crisp without being greasy, and the fish was tender and flavorful. It was just the right amount to curb my hunger without leaving me weighed down. I can definitely see why Grandma Sharron's has such a great reputation. It's not just the food though that alone is worth the visit, but also the warm, welcoming staff who make you feel right at home. Neat place!!! Spacious and modern with cool twists. The ceiling fans look like windmills and the light fixtures like fans! We didn't have to wait to be seated, but the waiting area was cool! Everyone at our table of five loved their food. Some had breakfast and some had lunch. Bonus that you could order either!!! Staff was super sweet in moving us to a different table when we went from a group of 4 to 5 and couldn't fit in the booth. Currently here and have been waiting for our food for awhile... people that came after us have gotten their food and we were told the cooks jump around on orders.. if our order is more complicated it takes longer.. we order eggs and an omelette.. as soon as we asked again about our food we finally got it 5 minutes later. Oh ND.... This was an experience. So if you are not white and straight.... Stay away. I went here and the place is...let's say...interesting. It's like old country buffet meets dennys. If that combo doesn't say enough this will... The coffee was OK at best. The food was ok. The Hash browns were the star. Service was subpar and our waitress seemed to be uncomfortable with me and my co-worker. It made the entire experience off putting and uneasy. Reminded me of my dads mom. Disappointing. We decided to try a new place on our last day in Williston. Should have stuck with our trued and true, Lonnie's Roadhouse. The coffee here was very weak and our food was cold when it came to the table. Our server warmed our food, but the gravy was still cold. After searching out a good local restaurant here in Williston, I selected Gramma Sharon's as it was close to the hotel I was staying at and looked to have that "country" ambiance that usually equals good down home cooking. I was self seated from the sign up front and immediately had my drink order taken. After receiving my drink, it was almost 10 minutes before my "actual" waitress arrived to take my order despite seeing many of the staff at the bar area mulling around. I wanted a brunch style meal, so although it was nearly noon, I ordered hash browns, 2 over easy eggs and oatmeal. Pretty simple right? By the time my order arrived, my eggs were cold, the hash browns with cheese were bland and flavorless, and the oatmeal needed massive butter and brown sugar to save it. Had high hopes for this one, but will be skipping it on future business trips to the Bakken. read more

This is the other side of Williston. Surrounded by a couple of chain hotels and right dab in the middle is an exceptional local restaurant that serves the best home cooking. It's busy. Expect to wait but the food came fresh and hot. I sat at the counter and not at a table. So, if you go solo you don't have to sit at a table for 4. Service could have been more friendly even under busy circumstances. My order came 15 minutes later which wasn't as bad as what some of the reviews posted. My breakfast choice was a western omelet which came with hash browns (prepackaged not fresh) which I had asked to cook crispy and some rye toast. If you want fruit or anything else, you have to add that a la carte. Parking was hard to get because of the time of day. Interior is basic cafeteria style. Lot's of older patrons there..assuming this place has been long established in this town. I noticed the staff was setting up a buffet which had some breakfast and lunch items as well as a complete salad bar. I'll have to come back for that since I give places a second chance to improve where they might have had some shortfalls. I didn't really look to see about cleanliness, but this entire town is a mud pit so if it had some dirt, that would be the norm around here. 2 stars because it wasn't anything special but the food came hot and the eggs were fresh. read more

To say this place has been fixed up is an understatement!! For a long time I hadn't come here to eat after waiting copious amounts of time for overpriced food. The restaurant was dirty, old, and really need at least a good clean. Now? Beautiful floors (they look like wood but I'm certain it's laminate), metal sheeting on the walls as well as new paint on other walls to create a homey barn type feel, new tables, chairs, and now a new paint job for the outside as well! The atmosphere has improved 1,000 times over. As for the food - delicious! It reminds me of the Gramma Sharon's of long ago but better! I love the heart healthy skillet which is not only delicious but not even remotely greasy. My daughter lives the pancakes and French toast. The prices are beyond reasonable and the food comes quick! The service is great too. They're quick, polite, and doing a great job. Way to go Gramma Sharon's, I'm glad you're back! read more

Anywhere else, this restaurant wouldn't be in business. Waitresses stand behind the counter and sip their free soda while looking straight at you after you arrive and seat yourself, and wait for some acknowledgement that anyone has noticed that a new customer has arrived. Wow. Thought I'd try a burger, and for whatever reason was hoping it would be fresh made. Sorry folks, but at 51, I've made more than a few burgers of my own out of ground beef, fresh or frozen, and I've never cooked one that consisted of this rubbery truck delivered "meat product". Fries were crinkle cut freezer fries. Why don't I eat like this at home? BECAUSE AT HOME I EAT REAL FOOD. The Sysco truck doesn't come to my house. Am I expecting too much? To be served REAL FOOD at a restaurant? Don't tell me to go home and eat then. I'm 390 miles from my wife and real food. This place gets full quick. Some co-workers and I came here to try out the food. They had ate in here before and told me it had really good breakfast. They do have the best breakfast in town, but not better than mine. The pancakes are huge but I have had bigger and tastier ones in Cali. Service is cool.
