First time in Williston, ND- made a day trip from Montana. Was heading to Wal-Mart for a few items and saw Lonnie's. Decided to try it. What a great experience and treat. Very friendly staff. Ordered chicken fried steak which was great. Huge amount of food. The service staff was wonderful. They served coke and pepsi products!! Thank goodness for the diet coke. They even gave me a to go cup. My meal was tasty and flavorful. The ambiance was great. Great signs all over the wall were fun to look at while waiting. Creamers and jellies on the table. Husband ordered some type of chicken sandwich which was very good as well. He received fries with his meal. They were very good. Everything was great. Clean, family oriented. Lots of locals eating there. Will return next time I am visiting Williston! read more

Can you say a locals hang out!! They do take in a couple stays like myself. The wait staff if very good and the decor has some pretty funny stuff on the wall. I kept my order pretty simple. A Bacon Cheeseburger! Which is something I do not order very often because i fall for burgers with more flare. Unfortunately this burger was over cooked and dry! The bacon and the bun were great. A local legend! Always crowded during peak times, serves standard American food. A major gathering spot for people so be aware some table grouping won't move for hours. There are booths for seating small parties. The do steaks right, which is impressive for a small restaurant similar to Denny's. The coffee is decent, they have a soda fountain as well. This was a neat breakfast find on my road trip through North Dakota. Walked right in to a full house, but a table opened up almost immediately. The turnover was constant throughout the meal, and no one had to wait long for a table. Jazlyn met us at the table and took our drink orders and then came back for our food orders. I was interested in the both the Breakfast Skillet and the Haystack, so I asked if I could combine them. She told me I absolutely could, so I ended up with a half biscuit and gravy covered with the toppings from the skillet. It turned out perfectly! The portions here are very generous, and you shouldn't leave hungry. The interior is decorated with witty signs that were fun to read over breakfast, and if you are a people watcher, there was a very eclectic mix of people gathered together for breakfast. Of u look at past reviews i was a BIG FAN of this place but now i have went in 2 more times and sat there watching others that walked in up to 5 mins AFTER ME get all the orders and drinks way ahead of me? I don't understand their structure? I sat there tonight for almost 10 minutes and 4 tables got waited on and they never even asked me what I'd like to drink? Yes tables are nearly full but how is it ALL 4 waitresses just keep walking by my table? So yes food is great however the service is HORRIBLE the last 2 times I have went. That's when you'll find the place packed with local farmers and ranchers. They'll greet you with a smile and a nod when you come through the door. This place is fun! It's decorated with art and signs and old time advertising from all over the place. On the menu you'll find the standard fare: bacon and eggs, omelettes, hash browns, pancakes and so forth. I've been eyeing this place since my husband and I came to Williston for a temporary job. The parking lot always seems packed. There's a reason they have a great friendly atmosphere and the food is really good. Don't let the parking lot fool you they have room inside. I never had to ask for more coffee because they do regular fly bys to keep your cup topped. I had a plate size pancake with a side of three link sausages it was suppose to be Pigs in a Blanket but I requested it deconstructed. Sorry no photo cause I was hungry. My husband ordered the meat lovers omelette which he proudly could not finish I must admit we could have shared it. The ladies that work here have the best sense of humor pay at the register just tell them your table number. They have pie displayed there as well as huge caramel covered cinnamon rolls. read more

First i want to say, been going to lonnies for years, i understand when it gets busy that sometimes it takes a bit for refills on drinks. But when a customer watches the waitress walk by numerous times and ignore the table for drinks ( as in what happened again tonight) it becomes a problem. Now, i understand that some people have a problem with a picky customer. Here is my thought ( AND WAS TAUGHT) NO MATTER what your customer/customers should always have a drink. And the customer should NOT be warned that the waitress can refuse service because the customer wants the food prepared a certain way. SORRY TO HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM TO THE STAFF. I HAVE SPENT AT ANY GIVING TIME, 50.00 TO 80.00 in this restaurant. And always left a tip of 8.00 or more. But tonight ....was just ridiculous.. I was staying at a nearby hotel for a week while passing through Williston. When I slept through the hotel breakfast, I asked the hotel staff where I might be able to get a good breakfast nearby. Immediately, the woman behind the desk recommended Lonnie's, so I went right over. I loved it! It was friendly, extremely reasonably priced, with good solid food and nice portions. I went back again later in the week because it was such good, comforting diner food. It was packed every time I stepped in; clearly a local favorite. Typical truck driver style cafe. I was told that this place was pretty good and it was one of the last places I hadn't been in to eat. So I took myself here for breakfast and soon as I walked in the door, it was mostly men staring at me making me feel uncomfortable, but the fellas got over it and went back to their business. I asked if I seat myself. They didn't have a cafe bar to sit at or single seating anywhere, so I had to sit at a table set up for 4. Took a while to get my table cleaned up from the folks before me and the service was very slow. I ordered an 3 egg omlette. It came with toast and hashbrowns. Once again the hashbrowns were your generic shredded potato that seemed to be the theme here in every bfast establishment. It doesn't take much to buy fresh potatoes and dice, shred or slice them for really down-home home fries and maybe add a little spinach, garlic, rosemary and sea salt to make it awesome. It can't be much more money to provide something that would make a world of difference. Again this is an opinion from someone who travels everywhere and has a lot to compare it with. It just surprises me how people rave about something that I think is poor quality. I'm thinking these folks don't get out much. There are odd postings all over the walls and ceilings that I suppose are to make this place have some atmosphere, but it actually made the place feel dirty. Sometimes less is better. It was overwhelming and actually kind of ugly. I posted some pics of it. The price was what you would expect at a cafe. The only thing that was okay was the eggs but for any taste, you will need to add a dash of salt, pepper and maybe some hot sauce. Don't expect the servers to drop you the check. You get up to the cashier, tell them which table you sat at, and they somehow figure out what you ate. On a rainy day the parking lot would be mud and gravel so don't wear your high heels. Save that for the big city. you will be surrounded by big trucks so be careful in the parking lot. The cafe is attached to the gas station next to the main road leading into Wal Mart. Adios Lonnies! When we walked in it was pretty busy, good sign. My dad got up and helped himself to coffee, creamer and menus. I was bummed to see that knoephla soup was being served the next day. We perused the menus and everyone found something they liked. While waiting for our food we read the funny signage around the restaurant. The food was unanimously good! Good burgers, chicken tenders, kick arse honey mustard, tasty fries, and the pie was FAIR. The sense of community was better. While waiting for the food we conversated with locals we knew who also came in for lunch. We went back a couple times that week because it is one of my father's go-to places. Check it out. My corn had a freezer taste, mash potatoes were instant from a box, gravy tasted like from a powder mix. My wife's burger was dry meat, dry buns with a few pickles. Prices are great for a boomtown location right beside Wal-Mart. The dining room stays packed and it's obvious why. After a 30 minute wait in what was an uncomfortably small area (they have no waiting area, just standing by the door awkwardly), we finally got to sit down. This is a seat yourself restaurant so it's a bit of a situation trying to determine who got there before you, who's turn it is, on and on. Finally sat down, ordered our food and then waited. And waited. And waited. I ordered an omelette whilst my boyfriend ordered a skillet. When the food FINALLY came (45 minutes) it was cold. THEN, as my boyfriend was eating his breakfast, he found a hair. A long black hair. And then breakfast was done for us. We were not charged for our meal but they seemed a bit perturbed, inconvenienced even by this discovery. We used to go to Lonnie's up to 3 times a week when they were in the old location. However, we stopped going because I believe what made that place special was the nostalgia of a "Roadside café" ! Now it's just like walking into a square box with a bunch of tables and chairs......like you're in a prison cafeteria, (not that I would know LOL) Even A grade school cafeteria has more warmth than that place, visually. It was a real disappointment for us and others we know. However, on a positive note, the food is still good And if you luck out, you'll get a really good waitress...... The staff was very friendly. We were passing through town late and wanted to eat a hot meal, so we stopped here about 40 minutes before closing time. I got walleye which was good, and so we're my cheese sticks. The fries with all meals were soggy, the corn dogs were too crispy, the mac and cheese was old (the kids ordered those), so the kids didn't want to eat their food so it was a waste.
