The service was great, everyone was helping each other! The place was packed and a whole vibe to me. We only had appetizers during the day and it was great I saw the table next to me with the lobster and I wanted it for my anniversary, being totally transparent, I wanted to add salt and pepper, but refuse to do so to an almost $300 meal. Is this place super expensive? Yes. Does this place also offer some amazing views? Also yes. If you want to say you dined at one of the oldest restaurants in Rome while enjoying a view of the amazing Colosseum, this is your restaurant. It's beautiful and amazing! Now the food is spectacular! So many flavors and great attention to detail. The only area of improvement is they will forget about you here. I asked for my check and it took an additional 15 minutes and two more times asking to receive the check. Now when you have a view like this place offers, you can happily wait a moment. I've read online to avoid restaurants that have workers flagging people down to come inside to dine; mini red flag from the start. For lunch, started with a sparkling campari; not bad. Bread was ehh. Got to try some of the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe; pretty tasty. Grains are known to be a little more chewy (al dente) in Italy. Ordered the Risotto Gold 22K 1981. You would think the gold flakes would stand out on the risotto. NOPE! A long strand of hair stood out like a sore thumb instead! Savory dish but not crazy about it. Should've ordered extra protein. This is a quick and convenient spot where you can kill time until your tour of the colosseum. Of course, due to its location, you should expect high prices for basic items. We were quickly seated and got tea and I also ordered a croissant. What I didn't like was that my tea came with cookies, but I didn't get them and was charged €7 for a tea bag and hot water, while my friend received her entire tea package. Mario was amazing. We were a few minutes late for our reservation and the restaurant was packed (it was a Saturday night during Juibilee and there was a parade right outside). We were able to be immediately, and although there was no room for our party outside we still got a great table view of the Colosseum. Do not recommend if you want a drink and an appetizer. We had 7 of us that wanted to find a nice spot to enjoy the Colosseum before our dinner reservation and found this spot. Great view and we were seated relatively quick considering our group size. We placed our orders which consisted of 7 drinks and 3 appetizers to share, but our server said we can't order that little and proceeded to not tell us how much we had to order. We offered to add more appetizers to make a larger order but she demanded we order dinner. Apparently you have to order entire meals (both appetizers and entrees) to dine here. We were kicked out for a misunderstanding and rushed to leave, our server explained how they have a long line for service (which wasn't there when they sat us down) and we need to leave after paying for the water (10 euros for 2 bottles of water). Their dining experience was not clear from the beginning. No apologies were given from our server, but another server apologized for everything. Stumbled upon this restaurant when arriving to visit the colosseum- no regrets! Had to write a review because I was shocked to find this place only had three stars. The appetizer wasn't anything noteworthy, but the PASTA... out of this world DELICIOUS. We tried the pesto ravioli and lobster spaghetti- two pastas I wouldn't normally order, but so glad I did. It tasted FRESH and kept having you come back for more no matter how full you felt. I liked that the pesto was not very oily like other pestos I've had before. The lobster spaghetti had a good balance where the lobster and the sauce weren't overpowering each other. And that addition of the green sauce added the color and juiciness the dish couldn't live without. I would come back to Italy just for these pastas. That's how good it was. They had outdoor seating and mist which made the experience all the better, if you don't mind all the people passing by. Service was good and friendly. We were able to enjoy a perfect view of the colosseum and enjoy a delicious meal. Would highly recommend! read more

My first time back after several years. I wasn't able to confirm, but it appears that original family have sold the restaurant but the new owners have kept the name. The service staff is much younger than the crew during my last visit. They are friendly and speak perfect English. However, they are not very attentive even though it's not very busy. One thing I noticed is that the younger crew does not chase away peddlers and panhandlers away from patrons as did the previous staff. However, the bartender makes a nice Negroni and it comes with an excellent snack assortment of olives, potato chips, and peanuts. The salad was excellent but I found the saltimbocca disappointing. The presentation was nice and I enjoyed the sauce, but veal itself was not tender. Even with a steak knife, it was difficult to cut. I regret not going with my first instinct and ordering a pizza. I thought the cheese plate was excellent: a great selection and large portions. Getting a glass of wine to go with it was extraordinarily difficult. Yes, it's touristy but the view of the Coliseum across the street cannot be beat. Prices are reasonable for the location. My recommendation is that this is a good spot for a cocktail or glass of wine. I'm not so sure about getting a meal here. read more

We got the rigatoni all'amatriciana and the cacio e pepe. Both were tasty but I definitely recommend the amatriciana, good flavor and good bite to the rigatoni noodles. My husband and I were visiting the Colosseum and looking for a quick sit down lunch with good food. Since it's a touristy area we weren't sure what we would find but Rossi Martini was perfect! As another reviewer stated, I too am shocked that this place only has three stars. My husband suggested this place - I was very skeptical because a) it's in a busy area with lots of tourists and therefore doesn't need to be good to survive and b) my husband doesn't have the best track record with these things. I was so pleasantly surprised at what a tasty meal we had. The bruschetta with four varieties (truffle, anchovies, etc.) was exceptional! The waitress suggested the pizza which has everything on it (think it's called the Martini pizza) which I would have never ordered. It was amazing. My husband who eats one of two dishes all the time loved his pasta with bolognese sauce - he said it was the best he had even amongst other restaurants in Italy. I can only comment on two things, the waitress, and the one thing we ordered... a banana split! You heard me, we were in Rome leaving a super hot day at the Colosseum and walked down the street with some restaurants looking for a bathroom and something to drink. We were bombarded by hosts and hostesses trying to get us to come into their restaurants. This place looked the most inviting and had the best A/C, which was largely the reason why we decided to sit down. We weren't super hungry, but noticed that there was a banana split on the menu and said "Why not?" Super weird banana split with orange and vanilla ice cream, along with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce and slices of green apples. And strangely enough, it all goes together. Gran Caffe Rossi Martini was one of many stops on the way to finding my rental car after visiting the colosseum in Rome, Italy. Planted less than a mile away from the colosseum this cafe was in a prime location and not overly priced for someone who just wanted to pop in for a drink and go. I naturally wanted to grab an espresso but decided to opt out and try one of their cocktails on their extensive menu. After reading over the menu several times I decided to get the Japanese Apple. I underestimated what this sweet cocktail would end up tasting like. It was like having a green Apple jolly rancher in liquid form. I was not a fan. It lived up to what was said "sweet and tangy" and I couldn't deny that but unfortunately it wasn't to my standards for a delicious cocktail. Although, my drink option wasn't great, I shared a charcuterie board and I feel like that stole the show. I knew it would be great but that pleases my appetite well before I decided it would've been dinner time (some hours later). This restaurant needs no advertising because it's one of THREE restaurants you can EASILY walk to after working up your hunger when waiting in line and then roaming around the Colosseum. Luckily, we didn't have to wait AT ALL to be seated (good or bad sign? Who knows and honestly, our view was so amazing, that it didn't matter to us). We glanced over the menu relatively quickly and found items we KNEW we must have! My friend got a pasta dish and I got the grilled seabass and grilled vegetables. Holy Moly did we order A LOT of food for lunch! My Seabass was INSANE!!!!!! 4 people could have been full from eating it, but of course, it's juicy deliciousness couldn't stop passing through my hungry lips... That before I knew it, I had eaten it ALL, as well as all the grilled vegetables! Sure, I'm know for eating a TON but I don't typically like to fill up SO MUCH at lunch, when I have to take on the rest of the day without a nap first! But I did it... And even though I was full until the next morning, it was great fuel for me to take on the rest of the day with (we walked around for 8 hours if not more). My friend really enjoyed her pasta dish, but later told me (after eating at a place KNOWN FOR AMAZING FOOD) that the food was really just good because anything is better than American food.... That being said, my fish was comparable to the tastiness I ate at the restaurant known for good eats... I just KIND OF wish it were a smaller portion---- AND THAT COMING FROM ME IS SAYING SOMETHING BECAUSE I ALWAYS COMPLAIN ABOUT SMALL PORTIONS). After such a tasty and large meal, I expect to pay a pretty penny, but NOT $115 !!!!!!! I really think they added something up wrong and my friend did not pay attention (I had to use the bathroom and told her to take charge).... Or maybe my fish was labeled MARKET PRICE even though I saw a reasonable price tag next to it... Or maybe we wound up paying for the people who had lunch next to us! I don't know, it will forever be a mystery to me and it will forever be dubbed the most expensive lunch I've ever had. Tourist trap proceed with caution. Our waitress made suggestions for us to go off the menu and we naively agreed. When the bill came it was $634. Our waitress knew what she was doing, she took advantage of us in a sneaky way that left a horrible taste in our mouths. We have no problem paying that price when the food and service merits but what they did was wrong. Order straight off the menu and take note of prices. Make sure you review you bill when it comes as we were also over charged on a few items. FYI The appetizer sampler pictured was 60 euro and the salad was 50. read more

This morning, I ordered a Cappuccino and a Croque Madame here for breakfast. The food wasn't terrible (and was about what I was expecting) but the service was pretty bad. However, that is not the biggest issue with this place. The price on the menu for the Croque Madame was 10 euros. When I got the bill, I saw two items: the cappuccino for 5 euros and an "antipasto" for 12 euros. I went inside to tell the staff that I ordered a Croque Madame, as I thought that an incorrect item had been added to my bill. The man I talked to said that the "antipasto" was the Croque Madame and that 12 euros was correct. I asked him to check the menu. He hands me a menu where the price for the Croque Madame was shown as 12 euros. I apologize (thinking that I was mistaken) and pay the bill. This evening, I thought about it again, knowing that the menu said 10 euros. The restaurant's breakfast menu is not on their website. I went through the photos on Google and found a breakfast menu posted from 2 months ago. That was the menu I was given when I first ordered; the Croque Madame was shown as 10 euros. I've had items "accidentally" added to my bill before at other restaurants. However, usually when you ask the staff about it, the additional items get removed. This is the first time I've ever been given a fake menu and gaslit about it by restaurant staff. It's really shameful that this is being done in a city with so much to offer. read more

We had a fab early lunch al fresco on layover in Rome. Views of the ruins to complement fresh pasta and pizza. Starting with Caprese salad wss our afterthought but the dish ended up stealing the show with absolutely the freshest mozzarella I've tasted. Since the Rolling Stones were playing in Rome tonight getting back to Fiumicino would have been impossible without the staff calling around for a car service. The pizza was okay, it was raw ham but all it said was "ham" on the menu, so I was expecting cooked ham. The dough tasted kind of uncooked, so that wasn't really great. One Margherita pizza is around €10 and a 0.75 liter bottle of water is €5. The restaurant also has wifi. Also: they won't let you order the tourist menu during weekends, so you'll just have to pay extra if you come during the weekend. read more

It's really hard to find a place with a better view than here. Literally across the street from the Colosseo, giving you an amazing view while you eat. My wife and I had just finished a tour at the colosseum, and worked up quite the appetite. We already knew what we wanted to order before we got there because we both wanted lasagna and spaghetti from Italy. The lasagna was really good. The spaghetti was slightly better than average with 3 good sized meatballs. The price was about average. The seating is amazing if you're in a group of 4, but for a couple it's pretty snug as they will split the small tables to fit as many parties as possible. read more
