Half of our party were seated when I arrived next to the bar. It was nearly packed just in time for dinner. Staff was busy attending to other tables but gave us great service once everyone got seated. First off, I decided to order a pomegranate margarita to start off the evening (their smaller glass). I forgot all the ingredients that were included, but the drink was really good. It was a bit strong for me (I'm more of a craft beer drinker), but everything was mixed very well. I was a bit tipsy for a moment since I was a bit hungry but nothing where I was out of control. For my main entree, which helped get me stabilized after drinking, I chose their Burrito San Jose, which was grilled chicken, chorizo, rice and beans topped with cheese dip and pico de gallo. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Each ingredient definitely came together. Well, there you have it. A nice return here where I enjoyed myself. Gone is the stereotypical Speedy Gonzales lunch special. The extensive offerings are replaced with such interesting combinations as a steak, chicken and shrimp burrito, described by my friend as "Delicious," and spinach enchiladas. We were offered tea refills and one to go. I had the spinach enchiladas and was not happy. The cooked spinach inside was served unaccompanied. There was a nice sauce on top but I was glad I swapped the rice for refried beans so I could mix up the beans, which were a bit too wet for me, with the spinach. Will not choose that again. Prices are higher as well. My lunch special and tea was $15 plus tip. Service was attentive although some mistakes were made and corrected, probably due to a language barrier. My go to is chicken fajitas. I know nothing spectacular but, it hits every-time for me. It must be that sizzling cast iron pan the comes out. It's like it's speaking to me. I took a photo of exactly what I received and returned the food to the establishment. As disturbing as finding an insect in my food was, I was equally disappointed by the response from the manager and staff. They appeared aloof and largely unconcerned. No one seemed particularly surprised by what I brought back, and I did not receive what I would consider a sincere apology or acknowledgment of how unacceptable and upsetting this experience was. Food contamination is a serious sanitation concern. When a customer returns a meal with an insect visibly in the food, I would expect management to show genuine concern, apologize, and immediately address the situation--not respond as though it were routine or insignificant. I have uploaded what was in my food so others can see why I am so concerned. I understand that problems can occur in any restaurant. What ultimately determines whether I continue patronizing a business is how management responds when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, both the condition of my food and the response I received afterward have left me with no confidence in eating here again. I will not be returning and would strongly encourage management to review its food-handling, sanitation, and pest-control practices.
