I've always…read morebeen reluctant to stay at a bed and breakfast because, frankly, I go on vacation to get away from people in general, not hang out in a house, share a bathroom, and a dining room table with them. In this case though, we were more interested in the idea of staying somewhere haunted. Well, if there is such a thing, this probably isn't haunted. Formally creepy? Absolutely! But the former owners restored the building, added the necessary amenities for a bed and breakfast and eventually sold it to it's current owners who operate it as Prosperity School Bed and Breakfast. We got there after a long, hot road trip and were really grateful the building was comfortable on such an oppressively hot day. We got a brief tour, told about breakfast and were shown to our rooms. The room was formally the school auditorium (sounds enormous but it was merely really large - remember, this is an 1800s school.) and was well appointed. To make a long story short, the owners were kind and thoughtful. Really, B&Bs probably just aren't my thing. It's a little too much like staying at someone's house for my tastes.

The room was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and we were very pleased. The pool wasn't huge, but it was very clean and the patio area set up was nice with comfortable places to sit and fresh clean dry towels. We stayed in a suite with 2 beds, 2 separate rooms and a nice big closet with a vanity area and a kitchen area for under $150! Recommend HIGHLY! We will stay here again when we travel through Joplin!

In each bathroom there was penty of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash offered, as well as towels. Even though there was renovations going on the first two floors it was quiet in the early mornings while it was going on. The hotel also offered a free breakfast for all their guest such as eggs, bacon, potatoes, and different other types of hot breakfast foods they switched daily such as quiche and burritos. And, there were other types of items available such as a variety of cold cereals, hot oatmeal, bread for toast, and bagels. We met Leslie who did the cooking and made sure there was plenty of everything for everyone who came to the dining area. She was very friendly to everyone in the dining area too. She deserves a 10 out of 10 for excellent customer service. Honestly, it sounded scripted to me. Regarding the smart features, given the remote had screencast, YouTube, and Netflix: "we don't have that". The TV, after trying to resolve the issue turned off and on every 40 seconds. So, you can't even watch anything without interruption. I know I'm not staying in the top of the line Hilton hotel, but the quality of this hotel is well below that of a motel. Any move you make on the bed comes with noise, so the base boards, frame, or box springs need to be addressed. Overall, very disappointed with the stay already and I haven't even survived the night to give feedback on the amenities or breakfast.

On the plus side, the rooms are spacious, the A/C works, and there's a microwave and mini fridge. It's also very budget-friendly. That said, I'd probably spend an extra $20 next time for somewhere that feels cleaner and better maintained.
