This hotel is in the heart of the Monti district which sits close to the forum and Colosseum. Lots of restaurants, pizzeria, gelato and bars are nearby. It's a great location. The hotel is undergoing renovation but temporary walls keep us away from the construction which is very nice. Their dishes rooms are very big and elegant compared to most European hotel standards. The bathroom were very spacious and bright. The staff here speaks several languages and are very friendly. They took care of all my special requests. The restaurant downstairs offers a great breakfast buffet that is very enjoyable. We loved this hotel very much. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Palatino. Our room overlooking the Via Cavour was spacious and beautifully decorated. All systems in the room worked well. We felt safe and secure. Daily room cleaning also included turndown service and replenishment of complimentary bottles of water. Check-in and out was uncomplicated with this multilingual staff who were always helpful and informative. The hotel's restaurant serves a wonderfully broad selection on it breakfast buffet. This is my second stay at this hotel. It's a very nice hotel and it's in a really good location but it does have its problems. The room started off very cold, but Riccardo sent up a heater that warmed it up. The hotel is getting a major upgrade to the lobby and rooms. The room we had was remodeled so the bed was soft and the room was comfortable once it warmed up. Unfortunately the water in the bathroom sink was almost cold. It did improve once housekeeping figured out there was a problem, but that was day three. The bathroom has plenty of room and lots of light and thankfully the shower was hot. For some reason though, the toilet seat would come loose or off every time you sat on it. The food on the breakfast buffet was good but everything was really lukewarm. I think I actually liked the hotel better the first time. As for the staff we were greeted by Riccardo who was working the front desk. He took us to our room, showed us the new features of the room and all the improvement done to the lobby. He showed us the view from the room and explained the UNESCO World Heritage site that is located across the street. He also pointed out how close the Colosseum was and how to get there. He was absolutely wonderfully helpful and friendly. All the staff was very friendly but he definitely was the friendliest throughout our stay. Point of reference, the Colosseum is about a 10 minute walk, and the Church of Saint Peter in Chains is directly across the street. There's a small convenience store less than five minutes from the hotel along with a multitude of little restaurants and souvenir shops. read more

I give it a 4 star only for the location being near many attractions with convenient shopping and restaurants along the street otherwise, I'd give it a 3 star. The noise was so loud at night until 2 am. There is a a bar/club directly across the street and loud cars all through the night. The staff was nice and helpful. The buffet was very decent. The location is horrible, the street noise is horrendous if your room is on the front of the building and the views were of a construction site on the back side. There were 10 of us as part of an Insightful travel group of 35 and none of our rooms were any better than sleeping on the street. It's 1:37 am and the street noise has been nonstop. May not be the fanciest hotel in Rome, but it is one of my favorites. I love staying here every time we're in Rome. Great location just a couple blocks from the Colosseo and the Roman Forum, basically across the street from Saint Peter in Chains, the church that houses Michelangelo's "Moses." It's been renovated and apparently now under the management of FH55 group. Just one snag... the food is average if not below average. However, there are plenty of good restaurants around. If you're looking for authentic Italian charm, you'd be more likely to find it if you stayed at a Holiday Inn in suburban Indianapolis and dined at the adjoining Olive Garden. This is a hotel devoid of personality, designed to make Americans feel like they've never left the Midwest. The only good things I can say about it was that the location is good (close to the Colosseum), the breakfast buffet was not bad and the rooms were large by Roman standards. My first impressions of my room and this hotel were poor, I walked in and there was a large discolored section of the wall next to the bed with markings of mold and mold was present in the bathroom as well. However, the overall stay of this hotel was positive. Firstly, the location is fantastic. A very short walk to good restaurants and bakeries, the Colosseo, and ruins. The staff is friendly and there are extensive options for the buffet breakfast. The dinner was also fair. The rooms need to reflect the hotel better. Unpainted walls, opened toiletries, mold and bad smelling rooms take away from the experience. I would never sway anyone from staying here because I never felt unsafe or disgusted, it just simply was not in the list of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. read more

Good location and the good stops there. Beds are horribly uncomfortable and hard. The SINGLE pillow they provide might as well not exist. When asked for a few extra supplemental pillows, we were actually Tsk'd by the particularity unpleasant male front desk troll then promptly ignored. Persistence got us a total of 4 extra pathetic pillows that didn't come close to matching a single pillow back home. The room was very warm with no option to cool it off without opening the window overlooking a very loud street - bring earplugs. The food was equally terrible. How they made the cheese taste so much like plastic is, quite honestly, impressive. And my cousin's description of the salami is particularly accurate: "it tastes like they sprayed salami flavor on a very sticky surface." And then there's the gem of a description my mom gave for an unidentified pastry, "some sort of gooey fruit on a whole wheat crust that tastes like cow food." Overall, absolutely do NOT recommend. read more

As part of the Trafalgar tour we started our tour here and stayed for 3 nights. The locations is convenient next to the Roman forum and only a 10 minute walk to the Trevi fountain area. There are restaurants right out the main entrance and it feels safe. The inside of the hotel is clean and well decorated. The rooms are accommodating and updated. I stayed here with a tour group 6 years ago. Our stay was great. Food and service service were top notch. Our stay in June 2023 was medieval. Let's start with unloading our suitcases from the tour bus. There is a ramp for the Bellman to help bring the luggage up. The Bellman showed up when we were almost finished, hauling our luggage up the stairs to get into the hotel. 40 people with two bags each is a lot to move. When we checked out; no one there to help us take our bags down those stairs to load into the bus. I failed to remember that the bathtubs are very narrow, and there is nothing in the tubs to keep you from slipping. Many on our tour group were senior adults. They were so afraid of falling in the tub. I explained that they could use the shower stool in the bathroom. Even so, getting out of a wet tub is dangerous. If you wanted to take a hot shower, you must do that before 5 o'clock p.m. Otherwise you're going to be using the tea kettle for hot water to pour in your sink to just take a sponge bath. So many people complained every day about lack of hot water. The front desk staff acted like they did not care about our complaints. The blow dryers in the rooms were horrible. Imagine blowing up a balloon and then just releasing the air from that balloon. That's the speed of the air coming out of the blow dryer. This was a concern in the rooms of my group. Again the front desk, did nothing. They always said they were calling someone to come check on our complaints....no one ever showed up. Buy a blow dryer if your staying here. Here is why I gave 3 stars. (Otherwise it would have been 1 star.) The food was delicious and It was served by friendly waitstaff. It was awesome. The breakfast spread was perfect. Dinner. The food was served hot and by smiling waiters. Dinner is very Italian. Vegetables are served with the main course. Dinner also takes more than an hour. So prepare yourself. If you're in a hurry; you may want to leave after the pasta course....Which is the first course. There was always a delicious dessert served. The cleanliness of the hotel, dining room, hallways, front entry, and communal bathrooms in the lobby are very clean and neat. Wake-up calls were prompt. I understand that things are not the way they were before 2020. Asking for hot water and a blow dryer that works. It's not asking too much from a hotel. If this was just one room or one night I could live with it. Four nights is four nights way too long not to have hot water each day. I am supposed to return in 2025. More than likely my tour group will choose this hotel again. I hope that the hotel will get back up to scratch. read more

The hotel is located in the center of all the action. About fifteen minutes away you have the shopping districts. The Coliseum and other historic sights are also near. The surrounding streets are filled with restaurants, pizza spots and bar. If you don't mind a little walking this place is perfect. The rooms are nice and clean an average Italian size room. Bathrooms are big and clean. The staff was friendly. I do wish the windows had screens. It seems that during cooler months they turn off the aircondition. The mosquitos in this city are bad. The hotel offers continental breakfast with plenty of choices. I honestly was impressed with there breakfast. They seem to change things up every so often. They have pancakes here and good scrambled eggs too. That is something you don't find here often. They have a coffee machine that is awesome. I wanted to take home. My favorite was there capuchino. I grabbed 2 nights off HotelTonight app for a decent price. The room isn't much but I cannot stress enough the location is the best! I walked everywhere from the hotel and it was central to all of the main attractions plus walking distance to the train depot. The front desk people were delightful and let me check in super early since I arrived at 11am. Also, the breakfast is to die for!!! The rooms were very clean & modern and quite spacious. Room had AC which came in handy during the summer heat. We had booked this hotel awhile ago for our stay in Rome after reading pretty good booking.com reviews. Although, later when we read the Yelp reviews mentioning poor customer service and unreliable wifi we got a little nervous! However, our stay here was wonderful! We had no issues with our reservation and hotel staff provided insight about which attractions to visit at what times,which parts of Rome were not the safest and provided handy maps. The rooms were pretty big for a European hotel and offered all the comforts! The wifi worked great. We recommend staying on the 8th floor as all rooms here have a balcony, we loved our view and enjoyed our morning coffee out there, very serene! Very Nice Hotel in the center of the main attractions around Rome. We stayed 10 days. Our first day in Rome ...The Pope made a surprise visit to the Colosseum. The Grand Hotel Palatino is a 5 minute walk to the Colosseum. We got to see the Pope! We had a cute Balcony on the 8th floor with a fantastic view of the city. We loved that every morning a full breakfast is included. Everything and more that you can imagine. Even Cappuccino and Espresso! Breakfast is 6 to 9:30 every morning. House keeper on the 8th floor was a delight. I could only speak a little Italian... but we really got to be good friends! If you need anything just ask her...she was a real sweetheart! Kept everything sparkling clean! Also everyone at the front desk were so helpful with where to eat, maps, transportation to airport money exchange etc.... Easter morning the Hotel left us a special Easter cake. It was DELICIOUS! Big rooms for Italy and WiFi worked GREAT!! I Read other reviews seems like the best rooms are the rooms with the Balconys on the 8th Floor!!!! True the Hotel had not turned on Central air yet but our room #806 had it's own A/C unit that we could control ourselfs. Average temp was around 55 Easter week. While not a "5 star" hotel, they delivered "5-star" service. The lobby was very nice and the front desk employees couldn't have been friendlier or more professional. Our room had a quaint little balcony which overlooked the local neighborhood and a partial view of the Rome skyline. The room was nicely appointed and the air conditioned worked perfectly. If you're a foodie, you'll love the breakfast buffet. Everything (no over cooked eggs here) was of excellent quality and the restaurant area was very comfortable and bright. What a find! Room was clean, modern and spacious. Two restaurants and an intimate bar on the ground floor. Six minutes walk to Colosseum, six to the Forum area, half block to the metro. The hotel entrance and restaurant was nice. Our room appeared clean and well maintained. We spent one night there and the next morning I had a rash along both legs along my calf's. I think that I was bitten by bed bugs. I was leaving for a flight at 3:00AM so I didn't have a chance to speak to a manager. I got home read about bed bugs treated them with a hot shower and applying isopropyl alcohol for 2 days and then the rash went away. The most important thing to me when traveling is that the room is clean and bug free, so this is why I rated this hotel a 2 star. read more

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome! The front desk staff is courteous and helpful, the rooms are clean and well kept, the breakfast is abundant and well prepared (no runny eggs) and the hotel is ideally located to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. You can also easily access the more local area and restaurants by a five minute walk behind the hotel. They also have free wifi here. It's slow, but useful. The metro & bus stations are nearby (the area around the bus station is a bit dodgy, though) and there's a hop on/hop off bus stop not far away. This was our second stay here. They've done some improvements to the lobby area, making it brighter and more welcoming. The rooms are of a typical European size. Do not expect American sized rooms. Seriously dislike this hotel. Hotel states that they are a 4 star hotel but on what standard? I'm a platinum member at Marriott and Hilton and this hotel does not compare to them on any level. No internet connection anywhere and poor customer service, the front desk were snobs and not sure why. Only had one towel in the bathroom when I came to my room, had to call for an extra towel for my spouse. What hotel only has one towel? Also I had left over (used) lotion bottles from whomever stated in the room before me that housekeeping never changed. Why would I want to use the products that were already opened and half used by someone else? No irons were provided or allowed when I needed to go to dinner and iron my shirt they told me to wait till the next day to have house keeping iron it which did not solve my problem of having a wrinkled shirt for dinner. They just said they don't know. The bed was crooked (the feet were higher than the head) Toilet didn't work (it didn't flush). The shower only had hot water, couldn't adjust it to cold. I seriously do not know how his hotel has 4 stars. I will stay at Marriott next time. I know I will get at least two towels and wifi. American guests will definitely feel uncomfortable here. read more

Overall the hotel was very nice and I suppose I got a good value for the location and hotel overall. The location is in a hip area of Rome where a lot of the younger locals hang out (there is a small plaza about a block from the hotel where a lot of locals hang outside and drink). There are plenty of pubs and really good dining options that seem to cater to the local taste instead of the tourists which is fantastic. The location is also within 5 minutes walking to the Coliseum (which is visible on the corner) which was very nice. The hotel has a big dining area for the continental breakfast and has its own restaurant + bar (we never went to the restaurant/bar because it seemed waaay to lame and touristy). On the downside, and the reason for 3 stars: the bed was pretty stiff. Also, a big minus for me, was the lackluster wifi. In all of italy I have not come across wifi that was as frustrating as this hotel. The connection goes in and out (out more often) and the strongest signal seems to come from the lobby area. read more

Subway is just around the block and the neighborhood behind the building is a cool locals hangout. The hotel personal were friendly. We had a triple room at it was fine, with a balcony and terrace. Fire trap! Staying in hotel with Gate 1 travel tour. Small electrical fire and smoke in the 0 floor dining. Discovered lack of response by staff. Open windows and tell everyone no fire. Noted the hotel has no fire sprinklers. The smoke detection system for the whole building is down, no heart beat flash from detectors. The high rise building has only one central open stairs with no fire doors. Wings have fire corridor fire doors, but they are activated by non functional smoke detector system. Found fire doors blocked open. Let everyone's lawyer know if something happens. read more

Don't do it! Plenty of better hotels in the area for the same price. The Palatino claims to have Wi-Fi which is not really true. Our room flat out had no wi-fi some communal areas have it but even there it's iffy at time. We called down at they said they would call technical and get back to us. Poppycock. Never got back to us and doubt they called anyone. In addition there is not a/c all year they turn it off. Our room was pretty stuffy and we had to sleep with the window open which was inconvenient particularly when it rained and in addition at night you could hear the people out partying. read more

I hovered between 2 and 3 stars for this room since it is a great example of extremes. The good: it has free wifi, is very close to some of the biggest attractions to Rome and the rooms were clean and made up nicely each day. It also came with a complimentary breakfast which offered just about anything you could want. The bad: the wifi was slow as hell which seems to be standard for any hotel so I can't really hold that against them. The air conditioning wasn't very good and it only got cool enough in the room over the evening. The toilet was situated in a weird spot so you had to sit sideways because the sink is in the way. It is located on a somewhat noisy street. Which brings me to the worst part, the beds. I can only imagine that they were filled with concrete and they put a gym mat over the top of it they were so firm. The pillows too. Didn't sleep much when I stayed there. All in all, about two and a half stars rounded down to 2 because I am still irritable about the mattress. read more
