It's next to the vision works (on the RIGHT) theres decent parking . i fly here once a year from california to get my routine eye exam. All the years of chemistry classes messed up my vision- no one could save my eyesight but Dr. Jason Nguyen sure helped me see better and with more comfort!!! i can easily just go to www.grandLakesEyeCare.com and set up a time that's conveyant for me to come in or call the wait isn't long and staff are soo helpful and nice!!! My old optometrist had me on the wrong rx i am so glad i finally discovered this office sooner because i can now see more in HD it's like he turned up the contrast and brightness on my vision!!! The contact eye exam pricing was decent- he increased my comfort and my monthly contacts don't itch and bother me anymore. Who knew?? Before i went off the optical technicians recommendation from then limited eye prescription my old optometrist gave me to fill- i went 28 years without glasses so it was a relief for me to finally feel comfort as if I werent wearing glasses again and can still see clearly. I'm pretty active in activities and work as an EMT /autism caregiver and now i am so happy! I don't have to squint anymore causing wrinkles. His recommendations made such a big difference. Very quick but thorough appointment. The waiting room is small, so during covid wait until a few minutes before your appointment time because it's hard to distance in there. I went in about 5 minutes before because it was empty, was greeted right away, filled out paperwork and only had to wait a few minutes before I was seen. The tech (unsure on correct title) does a few tests and wipes down all the equipment with a sanitizer before you use it. Then you go to the exam room and I only had to wait a few more minutes before I saw the doctor. He was friendly, knowledgeable, explained things well and made me feel comfortable. He was also very efficient. Everything was very sanitary, equipment cleaned between patients and plenty of hand sanitizer available. You can wear your mask the whole time. He walked me back up front, signed my prescription and I was good to go. If you have an appointment here, you automatically have a saved appointment at the eyeglass store right next door (not affiliated with the optometrist but they have an agreed working arrangement for patients of Grand Lake Eye Care). Note that the eyeglass store was friendly and not expensive, but their frames/selection are not amazing. read more

I've been going to Grand Lakes Eye Care for a long time and the experience is always excellent. The staff is warm and patient. Dr. Nguyen is passionate, knowledgable, and he always takes his time to answer my questions and explain things to me. I found out he's been practicing for 5 and a half years so he knows what's going on when I describe a problem to him. One time I had itchy eyelids and he recommended I use lid scrubs and wash them with baby shampoo. That's just one of the many issues he's helped me with. Dr. Nguyen earned my trust my very first visit when he corrected the previous prescription I had from the optometrist at Sam's on S. Rice. They had me at -7.00 and it was corrected down to a -6.00. I used to have headaches from the glasses and contacts, but those went away after my visit with Dr. Nguyen. He took his time to get to know me and he even discussed sports and investments with me. I wouldn't go anywhere else. They treat me like family. I never feel rushed during my appointments and they make sure I'm completely satisfied when I get out of the chair. read more

I live in the Montrose area, which is quite a ways away from Grand Lakes Eye Care. I make the commute to Grand Lakes because Dr. Nguyen is excellent. He does not rush through appointments. He is knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things. His office has equipment that some other optometrists do not (to conduct retina exams without dilation). The office is clean, and the staff is very professional and accommodating. My vision was not good prior to coming to Dr. Nguyen. I had been to other optometrists, but for some reason, my eyesight never felt right. I personally felt like it could always be better than it was. I would sometimes get headaches, or it felt like the prescription for the lens was not completely accurate. After going to him, I've had no issues come up with my vision, and I could not be happier. Also, at many optometrist offices, there is a focus on selling you glasses/frames, and you'll see an abundant amount on display. At Grand Lakes, they don't sell frames. Why is this worth noting? Because he's focused singularly on one thing--improving your vision and quality of life. There is no upsell. There are no gimmicks. I value my time, and Dr. Nguyen will value yours, just as he has made me feel. He's worth the time to go see. read more

After reading all the great reviews I scheduled an appointment for myself and my son and gave my insurance information and was told that they will call me shortly to confirm if they accept my insurance . Since I did not get a call I tried following up few times and left voice mail and no one called me back and finally few days before the appointment I called again and got hold of someone and was told that they don't accept my insurance. Found my new optometrist! I got my eyes checked today and had a fantastic experience. Dr Jason Nguyen and his staff are really professional and knowledgeable. They had a machine that took digital pictures of my eyes to avoid dilating them with drops (thank goodness). This review is based on 2 visits with Dr. Nguyen. On my first visit, I went through a regular check up and it had been my first visit to an optometrist in years. Luckily Dr Nguyen accepts various insurance providers which made me choose his office initially. First impression of the office was that it was very well kept, and clean. In the lobby area where patients wait to be seen by the doctor, there is a massive tv where an NBA game was shown. Great stuff to watch while you wait! When I was called in to be seen by Dr Nguyen, he was friendly, cordial, and most importantly honest. He told me my contacts weren't being regularly maintained and that it could affect my vision later on. He gave me advice on how to clean my contacts and actually gave me contacts that allowed me to wear them for longer periods of times! The second visit I had at Grand Lakes was even better. I noticed that the office is now filled with sports memorabilia in particular Houston sports. This goes along great with the Houston Texans game which was on tv. When it was my time to see Dr. Nguyen, he actually remembered me from my previous appt (months ago!) which shocked me because it's not everyday your optometrist remembers what color shirt you wore the day you last saw him! I was wearing red. Dr Nguyen took his time to examining me, and fitting me for the best contacts for my eyes. The staff and Dr Nguyen were always warm and professional. I'm happy that I've found an honest optometrist that is not trying to make a easy buck off me, and will be coming back for regular visits. read more

I've had my eye exam at Grand Lakes Eye Care twice and both visits went smoothly and without any trouble. Dr. Nguyen and his team are very professional and they create an office environment that is inviting and not at all intimidating. He is very knowledgable and will give great advice on how to better care for your vision. The commute may be a bit further than I would like but it is completely worth the drive. However, if you live in the area, this should be a no-brainer! Bonus: If you're having to wait, there is a television in the reception area. My husband and I had appointments with Dr. Nguyen this afternoon. I was especially impressed with him the moment he walked in the exam room, extended his hand to shake my hand and said, "Hi, I'm Jason". This introduction immediately put me at ease as it reflected to me that he is down to earth and interested in developing an equal-level relationship between doctor and patient. I found him to be extremely thorough with my exam, explained what he did during the procedure, and asked me questions regarding changes with my eyesight. He showed me pictures of my eyes and asked if I saw dark spots. After i said yes, he pointed to the areas in my eyes and pointed out the floaters. You don't have to take your prescription there and Dr. Nguyen will tell you that not making you feel bad if you don't.
