Stopped here on the way to Grattan Raceway for the weekend. My 1st time, bf's 2nd. I adore a nice market and this one did not disappoint! Much more than a market, it has amazing amenities- all community centered, which should serve as a model for other cities. Meeting spaces for learning around healthy eating (with kitchens & demo islands!,), a beautiful greenhouse where weddings and conferences take place, ample sheltered outdoor seating & a great variety of top notch vendiors. One could shop for staples, sit down or take away meals, and a few home decor/kitchen items as well. I spent $$ I wasn't intending to on teas and a fabulous vinegar & am NOT SORRY ! Great Indian food for lunch and I took a few nice BIG samosas to go for later. Grand Rapids residents are lucky to have this place and visitors should not miss it! read more

We were immediately turned off pulling up to this building. There were a lot of homeless people running out into the road. When we went it just felt unsafe. When we went inside it seemed better but it was a bit pricier than most markets we've been too. There was a lot of different things but a lot were just sitting out and weren't covered where people could contaminate them. We bought a couple things but the majority of people we saw were just walking around and weren't purchasing much. read more

I was completely blown away by this amazing downtown market. I have never seen anything like this! I have a feeling Car town in Ann Arbor is trying to replicate this, but Grand Rapids really has it down. If I worked down here, I would be in here every day, trying all the different world cuisines. This is a high-end market with various cuisines from around the world at a moderate price range. From the trendy greenhouse meeting spaces to the vibe of music I really enjoyed coming here with my family!! I can't wait to come back and try more food here. It was just amazing. I love that you can walk steps between different cuisines and trial whole different cultures food. Golly, this place makes me happy. There are lots of local food options and cuisines at Grand Rapids Downtown Market, lots of little nooks at which to sit and hang out, lots of fun kitchen accessories to look at and purchase, lots of people-watching opportunities. Apparently, there are also cooking classes and events here, too. I love visiting food halls when I'm with my children, because we can all pick what we want to eat and everyone is happy. My children picked cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches from the kids menu at Carvers, a butcher shop that also sells burgers, sandwiches and bratwurst. I can't speak for the burgers and grilled cheese because I didn't taste them, but the fries that came with them were delicious! High Tide Soda has a huge area dedicated to all kinds of novelty sodas, so we picked up a couple of kooky drinks. It's hard for me to pass up Mediterranean food when I'm presented with the option, so I visited Cafe de Miro, a Kurdish-style Mediterranean joint that serves gyro, falafel and, interestingly, pasta. I really wanted baba ganoush, but they didn't have any pita that they sold separately! So I would have just been eating baba ganoush with a spoon or my fingers, which didn't seem appetizing. Instead, I got the Green Falafel rice bowl, which came with little crispy falafels, hummus, lettuce, parsley, cucumbers, onion and tahini over rice. It was so fresh and light! Just what I wanted. For dessert, I picked up a pistachio creme brûlée from Gaby's Gourmandise, a French bakery, and a dark chocolate milkshake from Love's Ice Cream & Chocolate. There were so many other things from the other food vendors and market stalls that I wanted to try, but a person can only eat so much. read more

Christkindl Markt at the Downtown Market is like walking into a Hallmark movie! Takeover of the market parking lot in late November to December 23. Artisans and local vendors plus plenty of food options. Curling available to reserve for a fee. Cool looking Alpenglobes available for rent up to 3 hrs - heated and enclosed for up to 8 people with exclusive food and beverage pre-order options. Beverage garden in the greenhouse upstairs with more seating available. Faves: * Kielbasa and pierogies from Pierogies Factory. Polish Dog grilled to order on a bun toasted on the flat-top. Pierogies boiled and pan-fried on the flat top. I only wish the sauerkraut was served warm vs chilled. * Schnitzel was perfectly breaded and fried. Just wish there were more of it! Meh: * Jambon Cru Raclette - It's cool to see the cheese melt from the heat source in front of your eyes and you get plenty of it. It tastes and feels like baked Brie. The baguette it's served in is great. There was very little ham and way too much green onion in mine. I've had Raclette done much better. Parking: $25 with limited spaces at the market. Nearby lots offering parking for $20. Street parking available - pay during normal downtown hours at the kiosk or the MOTU app. Luxury portable restrooms outside. Wow this is a cool spot. They have all sorts of stores and restaurants together in this building. I love that they have local Michigan items for sale. They have grocery section that looks amazing. The Indian restaurant and the Asian restaurant looked really good. They also have a super cute cookie shop that has stuff ready to purchase and also does events where you can decorate your own cookies. There is an upstairs where they have bathrooms and meeting rooms. There are some seating areas where you can sit and enjoy your purchases. Downstairs has seating associated with its restaurants. Parking is not easy- especially when the chriskindlmarket is going on. I wish this place stayed open a little later. Shops were closing down around 8pm. They have a website that details their events and entertainment. Seems like a fun place for young professionals to come and shop or have a bite for lunch or after work. read more

Downtown Market is one of my favorite places in GR. I often describe Downtown Market as a "fancy food court."As someone who is extremely indecisive there is no better place to go. With a variety of different cuisines and experiences, it's a wonderful place to bring a group. There are also a plethora of events both seasonal and as a series. The vintage market is one of my favorite events along with the Christkindl market. The educational events with farmers and producers are also really engaging and needed. One of my favorite features about the market is actually the emphasis on partnering with local restaurants and businesses. They have what's referred to as the "incubator kitchen" where many small businesses can use the space in lieu of building their own. I've met several small business owners who have spoken highly and really got a good start with this opportunity. I hope they continue to do this and maybe even have an event with brands who started at the market. read more

Our teacher made a fun scavenger hunt that was educational regarding urban gardening ideas, learning about new foods, and understanding sustainability while they searched for foods made in Michigan. So much fun and what a great and yummy experience. Now my son is asking when we can go back so he can try some food he's never had before. He even tried one of my sushi rolls today. One of my favorite things I did recently on my trip to Grand Rapids, MI. What a beautiful marketplace that oozes Christmas. It truly felt like a Christmas holiday, while walking through the courtyard, indoor shops, outdoor vendors, etc. It was snowing lightly while strolling through the market which made it magical. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed the Market yet. There's a decent variety of shops inside of here. I normally go to the Lobster Roll spot. Super clean and really busy. Some of the places are a bit pricey but it's to be expected. The quality is excellent. The service varies where you go. They also decorate it around the holidays. read more

The downtown market is one of the best spots for eating and shopping in Grand Rapids. I love the ease of parking as well as the variety of options for food and drinks inside. My husband and I love it so much we actually got married there and had a lovely experience! It's super cool to attend events there like christkindl markt and the vintage markets as well. My family picked up some ice cream from Love's as an appetizer, I grabbed a coffee from Squibb's, and everybody got to pick something they liked for lunch. There are so many options, and the layout allows plenty of space so you don't feel cramped. Prices have gone up, but they have everywhere. We first came here several years ago during the summer to check out all of the great foods and crafts. This time we were here for the Christmas market which was fantastic. We also took advantage of eating around the market, getting some food from Carver, a burger and fries, and a mango lasi from the Indian food stand. We tried Love's ice cream, which is a favorite in GR, and so good. I love the concept of this place. It is like a Michigan version of Eataly. There are so many places I want to try, so I know we plan on coming back soon. They have plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs. This time, they had a Champagne and egg nog bar upstairs and places to sit, plus delicate little plants for sale. Downstairs they have crafts, foods to purchase to take home, quick take away and sit down restaurants. So many, how does one even decide. There is very convenient parking next to the market and across the road. I parked across the road this time. If you are in the GR area, and you love food, honestly, this is a must-do place to visit. If you live hear, you are lucky! I would eat here all of the time if I were closer. read more

Visiting Grand Rapids for a long weekend, this was a place we were very excited to try! There is a good variety of places and the place overall is comfortable, clean, and a great space to spend an afternoon! We were able to visit during "Flight Fridays" - where several of the vendors have specials to try varieties. That was a great offering, as we knew we wanted to sample as much as we could in our limited time at the market. We arrived for lunch on Friday and decided we wanted more than we could eat at that time... so we left and came back a few hours later for dinner! The upstairs seating (elevator and stairs are options) has a great living green wall, comfy chairs, and a water bottle filling station. The upstairs also has a greenhouse and an event space with a test kitchen that I'm sure would be awesome to visit! read more

This is the place to go if you want a quick bite, you're indecisive on what you want to eat or you're with a group of friends! I love the variety of options you have in here. My personal favorites are Rak Thai, Cafe de Miro, Rad Bagels and Tacos el Cuñado. I'm still mourning the loss of Alt City which was my favorite coffee spot. This time I ordered basil fried rice with chicken from Rak Thai and my friend got a chicken wrap from Juju Bird. I will say that one time I ordered curry fried rice from Rak Thai and I was disappointed because there appeared to be no curry seasoning. I did call them about it and they were nice enough to let me order something else, but I've never ordered curry from there again. Overall the market is a great place but I wish the greenhouse was open more often. They are never open when I go in the summer. read more

Have a crowd with picky eaters? Come here to satisfy everybody's craving. Located downtown, is basically a building full of restaurants, desserts and drinks to choose from. They had tacos, burritos, seafood, Thai food, sushi, bbq, etc. not to mention the desserts! We tried a little of everything. I got the salmon bites which came with fries-delicious. The salmon could've used a bit more seasoning but overall cooked perfectly. I got a pistachio dessert; it was good and full of creme inside. My husband's chicken pad Thai was delicious! Recommend! For dessert we got a caramel latte but it was ok. Didn't care too much for the acidity of the coffee. The Michigan shaped chocolate ice cream made up for it though! I had to get it for the gram! Not only are there food stands, there are other cute stores for spices, wine, soda, and olive oils. Plenty of parking but you do have to pay when exiting. Cool experience. Wish we got to see the plant section upstairs but a wedding reception was in that space area. read more

We went downtown to enjoy the 2nd annual Chriskindle Market. We were able to park near the market so the walk was not that long. The layout was very easy to navigate. I purchased a beautiful pair of gloves, some Greek and polish food that we took up into the atrium on the top floor of the market to eat. We enjoyed watching a game of curling. We spent around 2-3 hours walking the grounds and shopping. The restrooms are inside the market on the 2nd floor in the back and very well kept. I enjoyed the decorations and the Holland shoe cup we were able to purchase with our drink in the beer garden. Everyone who we ran into staff wise was very kind and friendly helped us navigate our way. read more

I've been wanting to go to the Downtown Market for so long and it did not disappoint! This is officially one of my favorite spots in Grand Rapids - hands down! I absolutely love markets and food halls where there are just so many unique shops and stalls open and available for you to peruse in one space and that is exactly what Downtown Market is! I wish I lived closer so I could come here all the time to explore every little corner of this market! They have so many different options here: coffee, oils & vinegars, spices, meats & cheeses, bread, poke, soda shop, ice cream - the list goes on and on for all the vendors and stalls here! There's also a second floor with a greenhouse that was closed to the public for a wedding ceremony and additional seating up there for whatever you buy and want to eat here and people watch! The GR downtown market is an all time favorite, the location is perfect and they have parking. First half hour is free so if you are doing takeout it's perfect. If you stay longer it's only a couple extra dollars so not bad. If you have visitors it's a great place to come so everyone can get what they are craving. I love it when cities have a market like this. You get to experience lots of regional specialties in one setting. They also have a Christmas market which is amazing. On this trip, we stopped in for lunch and landed at Carver's for some sandwiches and burgers. Their Cubano is pretty good but the show stopper (somehow) was their cheeseburger. Field and Fire had some goodies to offer as well so we had to try a flight of pastries. So good AND they supply pastries to MadCap Coffee! Bonus! There are many food vendors to choose from and we love trying new things every time we're there. read more

This place was cool. We were in Grand Rapids for a hockey weekend and wanted to do some touristy things to end our trip. The market has a lot of good food options and groceries. We had bulgogi beef, spring rolls, and potstickers from Rak thai. Everything was delicious. We also had boneless garlic parm wings from Juju Bird chicken and sides. They were delicious and very saucy, which is how I like them. The service was good at all the stalls I visited. read more

If you've been to other cities' markets, this one may be a little unexpected. Instead of being in some repurposed warehouse, Grand Rapids's market looks almost intentionally made for such an establishment. The interior is very corporate, very clean and tidy. That being said, those can be pluses too. Lots of parking available nearby, though it's quite expensive. It's not that big inside so you can very feasibly be in and out within the 30 minutes free parking if you wanted. Not too many shops inside to browse. Would probably skip this place as a tourist. read more

This spot is great for those who are undecided about what they want. There is a selection of restaurants, bakeries, beverages, cheese, and shops. I like Field and Fire bakery, Pho 616, and the Madcap cafe. Upstairs has a beautiful greenhouse for private events. It also has additional seating and restrooms. There are also cooking classes you can sign up for. I like the multi-purpose dimension of this space. It is located at the edge of Downtown and near some awesome breweries. read more

The Downtown Market is a really cool venue that has food vendors, market stalls, special events, cooking classes, greenhouses, and private parking. It's a good place to go with out-of-towners or a group as there is something for everyone. You can get sushi, Thai food, seafood, burgers and sandwiches, Vietnamese food, bubble tea, BBQ, tacos, cupcakes and cookies, fancy chocolates, new American, ice cream, cheese and charcuterie, fresh pressed juice, cocktails, beer, and fried chicken--just to name a few of the food options! There are also vendors selling olive oils, Michigan made products, local meat, seafood, tea, spices, and to-go food. You really have to check it out--it's a one of kind place in Grand Rapids, with similar markets in other larger cities. My favorite things in the Downtown Market are Carvers for the $5 burger special, fried chicken at Juju Bird, and sugar cookies at Sweetielicious. I'm still mourning the loss of Rocket Pies, one of my favorite pizza places that has since closed. I follow the Market on Facebook and get their email newsletter to learn about the great events they host all throughout the year, including special themed food days, a vintage market during the summer, ice bar in the winter, car shows, animal days, etc. They even host private events like wedding receptions in the greenhouses upstairs! The cooking classes are really popular and I'm looking forward to taking my first one later this month. My only complaints are the limited seating options if you're eating at the Market--only about five of the food vendors have their own designated seating. There are tables scattered around the Market and some upstairs, but it can get crowded during peak times. Another thing I miss is extended free parking, but you still get the first 1/2 hour free and the lot is large. Plus there is metered street parking available. And finally, I think they could use more restrooms on the main level. read more

I highly recommend the Christkindl Markt. This was my second visit and I tried the stinky cheese sandwich. It was actually fantastic even though it has such a pungent smell. The shops are cute and fun. As for the actual downtown market, there selections are huge. This is the place to shop for any exotic spices and foods. Crazy stuff I have never seen or tried.
