I have bought a number of lights over the years here. Always had good service. I recently bought some lights accidentally broke one of globes (my fault). The globe was backordered. I was quite astonished to see the many poor reviews for this business. Over the years, I've bought a few light fixtures, a huge clock and just a couple of months ago, pendant lighting for our kitchen. Each time I shopped here, I was taken care of extremely well and in a couple of cases, saved money based on good suggestions from their staff. We just had a problem with a bedroom lamp which kept flickering instead of giving off clear light. I'm not real handy (my tool box is basically a Swiss Army Knife) so I went to Grand Rapids Lighting to see if I could possibly make the repair instead of paying them to do it. I was taken back to the parts area where they showed me what was needed and what to do when I get home. Fast forward an hour, (with their help) I fixed the lamp. I had envisioned either paying big bucks to fix or just buying new ones. Grand Rapids Lighting has an amazing inventory of light fixtures and lamps along with many decorative type accent pieces. The bald salesman was rude. I showed him a photo of the look that I was going for and he cut me off and snapped "that's not a brand we carry". I also got the feeling that he looked down on me because at first, I inquired about replacing the glass on my pendant lights. He said would probably be a better value to replace the whole light- which is fine! I'm pretty sure I'll do that. I just left this store. We have purchased many items over the years. I was totally ready to purchase 2 lights, the bill would have been over 700 dollars. First, no one offers to help. Then when i asked to place an order, I showed the lady what i wanted to order and she said she needed to check if it was available. It was, so I thought we would go ahead and order. Well, they place orders on Wednesday for this company, so i said that is fine. Then she said they had to check if there was a big enough order for them to place on Wednesday. Apparently the 700 dollar order was not enough. So, i asked when it would be ordered, she had no answer. I then asked if this was standard for a returning customer, she said she would have to ask the owner. I asked if i could speak to him, and she said he was not in. I just purchased these at lowes and saved 130 dollars on my order read more

We just purchased a new dinning room light. So many name brand selections and knowledgeable staff. The selection was better than the lighting corner and Kendal Electric. Pricing was better than the lighting corner for the same light. read more

I swore to myself I would never go back to this business after I purchased a number of lights from them a few years ago because the service and employees were so horrendous. Well, flash forward a few years and I was in need of some unique replacement bulbs for the aforementioned lights so I decided to give them another shot. I could not have been in the store 45-seconds and the hideous experience I had years ago was replicating itself. The staff was rude from the minute I entered the store and then when I showed them the bulb and picture of the socket with information stamped on it requiring replacement, I was basically mocked because that evidently is not enough information for them to determine a bulb replacement. I told them I bought the lights there and that maybe I was in the computer, and they could look something up. Again, more mocking because they had gotten a new computer system so I was supposed to tell them the date I purchased the lights. I told him I had no earthly idea but I have not purchased more than 10-things there over the years so maybe if he could look at the record, we could figure it out. He was VERY irritated that he had to do a little digging, and then basically threw up his hands and said that this was getting no where, and for me to go home, and get more information because he did not want to give me a bulb that would cause my house to burn down. It is such a tragedy that such a cool store is ruined by employees and management. I want to love that store but the way they treat customers is terrible. When they go out of business, I will not be too sad and I will definitely not question why. read more

I used to like this store. But some associates are just condescending and rude. I had ordered a very expensive custom lamp shade. Along with the order I had candle sleeves for a chandelier on the same order as well. Covid was really slowing things up So I decided to buy the sleeves they had in the store and simply repaint them. When I came in to purchase them an older lady had my original order in her hand and when I gave her the money (I gave her more than they were worth and expected to get change back.) she said since I had a outstanding balance with the custom shade she acted like I wasn't going to be getting change - NOTE I STILL HADNT GOTTEN THE SHADE YET. . I said "fine just apply my overage to the balance." She wouldn't do it! So I had to ARGUE to get my $4 back. Look if this woman knew my credit score she wouldn't have pulled this! I was very insulted like she thought I was gonna screw the company. I DID finally get the shade and OH SHOCKER came in and paid in full. Danette was the only helpful one in there. I will never special order from them again. Only what's on the floor. Better think twice before insulting your customer base folks. I did not appreciate that at all. read more

So I've been there twice. First time it was decent, took a while to get someone to help me, but they solved my issue. I was optimistic heading back with my wife to browse because we need quite a few different fixtures. Sadly, the second time back was a disaster. No one would help us, they wouldn't look for the item we were interested in, and when we did finally get someone to help...the completely ditched us. Told me to look myself and disappeared only to find the woman sitting at her computer ignoring us. Likely won't return. read more

If you go to their showroom never expect a greeting. No one will ask if you need help. I wanted to purchase a chandelier during their upcoming sale, but will be out of town and unable to go in person. I called and asked if I could place my order over the phone and the guy was a real jerk. He simply said no, offering no other solution for me. Obviously they don't need the business if they can afford to treat customers this way and turn down an easy sale. I ended up ordering the same exact light through Kendall Lighting who gave me an even better price and the customer service was like night and day. Poor customer service. I went in to the store because I was needing a light fixture for my master bath and main upstairs bath. I brought photos to show the staff what I was looking for. i have one electrical outlet above the double sinks that are currently in my bathrooms and wasn't looking to punch holes to accommodate two light fixtures, although I know that's what is mainly done now for newer houses. Instead of helping me choose the light that best fits what I'm working with, I was made to feel badly about the configuration of my bathroom by telling me that what I have is dated and that no one has single electrical outlets to accommodate one light fixture anymore. The woman who was "helping" me seemed exasperated because she was having a difficult time trying to find something that would work. She seemed to give up, and wanted to ask another gentleman who worked there. She started to explain what I was looking for, and then comtinued by saying, "I tried to explain to her that no one does that anymore, that it was popular in the 70's"...etc. I just wanted a wide light fixture, someone friendly who could point me in the right direction. I left and went to Lowes and actually found something very similar and for $200.00 less. They do have some beautiful things in there, and if they had treated me better I may have looked around for other things. But beware, the customer service has a lot to be desired. read more
