Great ratings and reviews. 55 minute drive from my home. Was worth every minute of it! Ryan got me in first thing. He educated me on my transmission. Showed me examples of components that made up my transmission and allowed me to ask a ton of questions. Shop was spotless and organized as was the waiting room. Arrived shortly before 8:00 and was back home in Kalamazoo by 10:00. Haven't experienced this type of service in a decade. I highly recommend Ryan and this location. Brett and Ryan have been great they have proactively updated me on the status of my repairs and have been superior in regards to communications. I had a difficult case with a 2022 Tahoe due to back order of original manufacturer parts and a complex repair. The dealership was projecting 4 months to receive part, let alone completing repair. I was left without a mechanic after mine was bought out and moved further South from me. I had taken all my cars there for a decade. When I needed a new mechanic I was highly skeptical of everyone I called. Good mechanics are hard to find, especially ones that don't automatically assume women know nothing about cars. I try to do most of the work myself, but let's face it, I'm not a mechanic, I run into issues I can't solve or things that would take far longer for me to fix then someone in a shop with all the tools. Last week, I took my Grand Cherokee in for ratteling noises and it was diagnosed to be my front differential. Pricing for a job like that was well over $2k and I couldn't afford that right before Christmas. My mom in Chicago did some googling around and found Grand Rapids Transmission and they found the problem not to be my front differential, were able to fit me in and get me done that day at a much more affordable price ! The owner Ryan will blame everyone but himself on their incompetence and inability to fix your transmission. He will over promise and under deliver with zero empathy. Trust me from my personal experience that took them a year to never fix my cars transmission issues then, just give up and refunded only partial of my payment and left parts uninstalled!! Was referred to GR Trans by my regular mechanic and was told 'He's pretty good'. In the first 10 minutes there I felt comfortable with the answers and attitude received. No sales pitch, did not have all the answers or try to have, no pressure - just what we can do and when. Reading most of the reviews, I think they all say about the same thing. Honest, up front customer service, fast, explaining (the best they can) what they do and have done. What do I know about transmissions? They could tell me anything, but they took the time and showed me what damage came out the that transmission. Cheapest? Probably not, but everything costs more that we think it should. I spent $3000 and upon checking later, could have done a lot worse. My take is 'A small shop with big results'. read more

I was driving down the freeway at full speed when my car jumped from about 2,000 RPM up to 6,500 RPM. I pulled the car over and checked the engine code, it turned out I had a shift solenoid go bad. I called Ryan at Grand Rapids Transmission and he was able to get the solenoid replaced and the automatic transmission back to working order very quickly and very affordably. Where do i start?? These guys are the absolute greatest....i lost my job after dropping off my vehicle. I was scared. It needed transmission work!!## They never called asking for payment once i explained my issues..which really didn't concern them. (not their fault im out of a job) and have over 1100 in payment due.....they gave time to get on my feet...well, they made it their business to help..THANKS GUYS....they did an excellent job fixing my transmission. ...and they even let me take my truck home and i still owed 200 dollars!!!# i made good...finally.......THEN....my daughters pontiac broke down...i had it towed in..they recommended a towing company and it only cost me 56 which is much less then ive paid for towing in the past..they covered towing and just added it to the bill....fixed it completely within hours.....at a great price..and..let her have her car and she still owed money.....now im not saying they will fix your car and let you pay later....but i have to tell you..i sure was grateful....i needed my truck for work...but i am saying, i won't go anywhere else..they do GREAT repairs at a reasonable price. ..these guys can't be topped.... read more
