The moment we walked in, the office looked and smelled like calm. Everyone is so welcoming and every staff member helped us navigate the transition. Getting insurance put in was a little hassle, but they were patient through every step. Despite being a premier dentist in my insurance network, their fees are more than reasonable. I don't feel anxious that there are going to be surprises every time I go in. I've never seen my kids so chill about dentist appointments. We are absolutely dog people, so their therapy dog(s) that often greet us in the waiting room for pets is a wonderful addition. My 11-year-old had such anxiety about dental visits that I couldn't tell him until the day of or he would dwell to the point of getting nothing else done leading up to it - but last visit he came out telling me it "wasn't so bad." That's quite the compliment coming from him. My 10 year old daughter saw the same hygienist/tech two times in a row. It made her feel really valued to see her wearing the pin she "gifted" her the appointment before on her name tag. Just when I think I dentist office can't have anything more to offer - they step it up. It's clear that a lot of thought and consideration went into building this office in a way that would best support it's patients. The only drawback is that I can't get an appointment for myself there! 10/5 stars, would recommend to anyone.

I had a…read morecleaning and x-rays in January 2016 and apparently it took them 2 years to reach out to me for an overdue balance. Once they contacted me in DECEMBER of 2017 after $200 of overage fees were accumulated, they took multiple weeks to respond back to me any time I emailed them about the situation. Stating that it was my responsibility to somehow know of this charge when neither the insurance company or the dentist office reached out to me for over 2 years. They had my phone number and email, yet they just allowed for the overage fees to accumulate before reaching out to me. Their last response to me is below -- After I expressed to them that 1. I don't have access to my metlife account as it was under my step dad and I don't have the insurance anymore 2. They have claimed that they reached out to me within the 2 years but I have yet to receive a single email or call from them. 3. They are now threatening to take me to small claims court over a $40 xray. They are completely inconsiderate, refuse to return my phone call on the matter and frankly don't deserve any business from the Grand Rapids area. --- I do hope you will understand that I can not always drop all my working responsibilities to play this game of email tag about a bill you owe. I have attached a few more pieces of information that might help you understand that we have done everything we possibly can to collect this debt, including all my efforts to date, and yet, still no payment. That is why there needs to be finance charges. Check your credit card statement or phone bill to see what vendors typically charge for a finance charge. 1) One attachment is a copy of the EOB as published on the Met Life website. It was very easy to access, and you even could still see it today. It clearly shows what was billed, what was paid and when it was processed. All within 1 week or your visit, so no time delay by Met Life. Met Life sends a copy of this to the subscriber first. 2) A second attachment is our patient ledger. As I have explained to you in earlier emails, a finance charge is automatically generated by our system whenever a statement is printed. You can see for yourself how many have been generated by our system. (Your visit was in January 2016, the first statement was sent in February. Not until April did the finance charges begin to be assessed.) I don't know why you didn't pay? 3) A third attachment is from our system's Office Journal. It tells us in specific detail about the history of interaction on your account. It shows the early stages of all this attempt to collect this debt. We have been attempting to get this debt paid for over two years now, and frankly, it is not up to me to prove it to you. Even though I don't mind doing so, this is not a question of if you owe us this money. This last page got a bit hung up in the scanner, but that information is not relevant to your statement history. If we have not received $____ (two more finance charges) by April 15, 2018 I will assume you would prefer to solve this in small claims court.

If you are thinking of going to Dr. Chambers, my experience with him is that he is extremely kind, professional and talented. He gave me a detailed plan of what needed to be done, options for doing it in stages, and followed through exactly as promised. And the treatment I had never hurt, not even once. As a result of my experience, seeing how happy I've been, and how well he fixed my teeth, several of my friends now go to Dr. Chambers, as well as my brother, his wife and their 3 children, both my sons, and their children. All have thanked me for referring them to Dr. Chambers and have told me how happy they are with him. Dr. Chambers cares, and goes above and beyond. I've noticed that several times now he has participated in providing free dental care days for children who can't afford it, dedicating his entire staff to this for a full day. And, I've personally known two patients of his who have had dental emergencies on a weekend that he opened the office for so they wouldn't have to suffer until the office opened on Monday. The atmosphere of his office is genuine, warm and friendly with consistently great, top notch service. He fixed my smile, and made it better than I ever thought it could be. He accepted the new policy and was recommended by my former dentist. I had a cleaning during which Dr. Chambers suggested a repair to which I agreed and scheduled a return visit. On return for my work, during the conversation with the hygienist, she told me Dr. Chambers wanted to do an additional repair he'd noticed. Not having planned on this, I resisted. I was reassured that it was important. Well, I figured since my insurance would likely cover it, I'd just cooperate. The work was well done, though I later mentioned to the doctor that I felt uncomfortable as he and his hygienist talked of their weekend plans over my mouth. I was instructed to go to the finance person before leaving. "That will be $850 for today". I nearly threw up! Apparently my insurance didn't cover the work I hadn't requested. I'd have thought someone would have spoken with me about cost,etc. before starting the work. I'd also thought my request not to have some work, cosmetic, done would have been honored. I wrote to Dr. Chambers about my distress. To his credit he called me. However, the message was that it was unfortunate I was upset, but there was nothing he would do. Would I like to use check or credit? Nearly finished paying by now. I'll return to my former dentist who has acceptable business practices.

I would not recommend Great Lakes Dental based on my experience as a new patient…read more Before scheduling appointments for my son and me, I specifically called to confirm that our insurance was accepted and that our routine cleanings would be covered. I was assured that they were. However, after our visits, we received a bill for more than $300 for services that we believed would be covered by insurance. When I contacted the billing department multiple times to resolve the issue, I was told that the office charges more than what my insurance allows for a cleaning. Had this been explained upfront, I could have made a more informed decision about receiving care there. I was also disappointed with how the billing situation was handled. Despite repeated attempts to discuss the matter, no meaningful resolution was offered. We even received a past-due notice before ever receiving a proper statement outlining the charges. The clinical experience itself was not particularly positive. The hygienist was chewing gum during the appointment and was not especially gentle. My son was given fluoride treatment without anyone discussing it with me beforehand or asking for permission. The office environment also felt dated and less welcoming than other dental practices we have visited locally. Overall, between the unexpected charges, lack of communication regarding costs, billing frustrations, and the quality of the patient experience, this was not a positive experience for our family. I would encourage anyone considering this office to carefully verify all costs in writing before receiving treatment.
