For a diner attached to a gas station in the middle of nowhere Nebraska during Covid, I was pleasantly surprised! The kids cheese burger was fat, juicy, done perfectly medium with two gooey slices of cheese and a tender, tasty bun. Wow don't do it me and husband got the smothered biscuits and gravy the biscuits were hard like they were made last week. It took ten or mins for someone to seat us and they weren't busy. I pass by here at breakfast time once a year and stop in for a cinnamon roll. It is good (not great, but good).

One star because my husband's breakfast was at least edible. The liquid they serve as coffee is merely lukewarm, brown water. Not only was my order of 2 eggs, scrambled well on a biscuit completely wrong, when they corrected it they had simply scraped off the gelatinous mass they had served me and slapped on a scrambled egg. Rita was our server and she was pleasant. We both ordered the chicken tender dinner with sides of salad, mac and cheese and cole slaw. The salad was not bad at all! Cold and seemed fresh. The chicken tenders were hot and crisp...the best part of the meal. The menu indicates that there is a choice of sauces but we were never asked what we wanted. It came out with BBQ sauce. I requested buffalo sauce after inquiring what the other options were. My husband was bummed there wasnt a honey mustard option. The mac and cheese was basic and almost flavorless. No, this is not a 5-star restaurant where you'll find gourmet steaks and linen napkins but if you want a decent, inexpensive, filling meal, you're in the right place. Also, keep in mind that this is a truck-stop diner, they aren't going to be abundant in gluten-free or vegetarian options. We came in when the breakfast buffet was hot and fresh with plenty of options like oatmeal, cereal (boxed) two kinds of eggs (regular scrambled and one with peppers and onions) potatoes, sausage, pancakes, French toast, grits, fresh fruit (pineapple, cantaloupe, melon and grapes. It was hearty and pretty damn good. We later came in for dinner and ended up ordering two plates of the chicken fried steak. It was humongous! You could probably order one and share it between two of you. We had plenty of leftovers for breakfast the next day. Fresh coffee was constantly in our cups, our waitress was a real gem who offered to change the television for us and sat us very close so we could enjoy the weather and our bill was inexpensive. Found ourselves here after a long drive from Las Vegas en route to Chicago. Maybe it was because we were tired and weren't expecting anything good near the border of Colorado and Nebraska, but this place was great! Being 24/7 was a Godsend, since we arrived really late, and considering how little we saw along the road up to this point, it was a great surprise. Chili was excellent, and so were the sandwiches (we were going to order the chicken cobb, but were steered toward the chicken breast with bacon, and it was delicious). I stayed at the Motel 6 right next door. I ate here just before 5pm on a Thursday night and was just in time for the all-you-can eat soup, salad and buffett for 9.95. They had a good variety of food to choose from and was extremely full afterwards. I didn't anything the rest of the night. The next morning I went here for breakfast. There breakfast prices were a little high, so I just got two eggs and hash browns for 4.50. Overall the food was pretty good, and not a bad deal if you can get the buffet. read more

Even though this is a truck stop dinner it definitely isn't one of my favorites. The salad bar is basically non existent with only a lettuce mix and choice of salad dressings. There are a couple of salad mixes ( potato salad, macaroni salad, cucumber salad and possibly slaw). My grilled cheese was hot and tasty as well be as my fries. Overall I would maybe try eating here one more time to be fair but today I definitely wasn't impressed. read more

My second time here once for dinner and today for breakfast both God Awful so my advise stay away

He had all you can eat. I had a loaded baked potato, salad with ranch. Was it the ranch? Was it the salad? Maybe the water? We couldn't pinpoint which of the above named items gave us our turbulent tummies but I was thankful there was a bathroom nearby. He overheard a man in the stall next to him that ate there too? "Ugh, on the bright side," I said with a dieters heart, "at the rate that meal moved through me I probably only absorbed half the calories!!" The pretzels don't look anything like the picture! Basically over buttered way over salted microwave pretzels. The mashed potatoes were dry and taste like some kind of meat broth. Both items were less than desirable. read more

Stopped at Max's for breakfast after a nite in the lot at Flying J. The breakfast bar was perfect even though I don't eat much and that is even right before they cleared the bar to change over from breakfast to lunch! My son and I stopped during a trip from Boston to Orange county. Having parked up our Penske truck in the truck park, walked past two-tier cattle wagons and taken in their smell we went into Grandma Max's for something to eat. We were pleasantly surprised at the restaurant, having a good choice of food and interesting decor. My son enjoyed his cottage pie and I my pancake and bacon. Whether or not this reflects the overall standard of food during our 3,000 mile trip from sea to shining sea or our British taste, but it was one of our better meals on the 5day journey. The only reason I found myself in this breeding ground for the cast of The Biggest Loser is that my girlfriend and her father had been in an accident and were shacked up down the road in Julesburg, CO. When I asked the girl at the pharmacy where we could get something to eat she told me, "well, there is the Subway by the highway, but if you want a nicer sit down type of meal there is the truck stop in Big Springs". We had to wait almost an hour for a to-go order and when we finally got it, it was missing side dishes and condiments that we specifically asked for. Honestly, my food was pretty good (I had the mac & cheese-make sure you tell them you want the grown-up one) but everyone else's meals were pretty sad. Maybe if the potatoes that were supposed to accompany the omelets had made their way into the containers the meals would have been better. Unfortunately, if you find yourself in this part of the world, this is as good as it gets...just dine there if possible is my only advice. Furthermore, don't be alarmed if the locals stare at you. They don't see many people under the 400lb mark too often. read more
