This place is a GEM! I ordered the Zucchini fritters from the lunch special, and it was unbelievable! Just taste like my mom's cooking which I never thought would be able to find in America (teary eyes). Not to mention how fresh all the veggies are and out of their own garden. The most perfectly named establishment: A former silent movie house, in a tiny town in Nebraska, that has been transformed by love, passion and artistry into something extraordinary. A roller-skating waitress, aromas from flawless gourmet fair, paintings on the wall from talented family members, and long tables set out for company greet you. We went for some paddle boarding and camping at nearby Lake McConaughy and stumbled onto this delight for breakfast. The eggs, french toast, zucchini fritters and lattes were absolutely delicious, but it was the aforementioned waitress (owner Cynthia) whose charm made this the highlight of our trip. This place lives up to its name: an oasis of art, beauty, and free Wi-Fi in a town that looks like it fell asleep decades ago and never woke up. Watercolors, oils, gleaming sculpted wood animals, photography...you name it. This place doesn't suck. It's definitely unexpected and it's definitely unlikely, a breath of fresh air in western Nebraska. Being from New Jersey and driving through a small town like Lewellen this is not something I would expect to come across. If you are passing through or even if you're not, make it a point to stop in for breakfast or lunch. The place radiates warmth like an afternoon on Lake Mccaughnahey. The owner, Cynthia, served us and welcomed us with open arms. She was beyond kind and gave us a few samples of her freshly made stew. Almost all her vegetables come from her own garden and everything seems to be made fresh in the morning. It is a small lunch menu but there is a little something for everyone. We enjoyed panninis, eggplant stew, chicken salad and quesidillas all served with your choice of cucumber salad or coleslaw. If the mint tea is available you MUST have a glass. read more

Definitely a fitting name. I wasn't expecting a restaurant with such personality when I went in for lunch. The interior of the building itself is quite beautiful, a large, expansive space filled with art. The tables and chairs are personal items with history to them, which adds to the intimacy if the space. As for the meal itself, it was quality food peppered with plenty of conversations with the owner about the history of the building, along with tasty morsels of locally made cheese and bread. We were barreling out of Alliance after seeing Carhenge and needed a jolt of caffeine. We lucked into this place. With its arty interior, it would not look out of place in Lake Tahoe. A very charming proprietor. We're sorry we couldn't have stayed for the ratatouille from her garden. read more

Very tasty lunch and affordable too. I would have liked to stay for the evening's entertainment. The history of this opera hall / silent movie theater turned into a restaurant is well written and found across the back of five menus - - read the whole thing. The smooth maple wood floor (yes, it was once an indoor basket ball court - - find out how the heated the court in winter) allows the waitress/owner to smoothly deliver service to your table. The art is regularly updated. I bought a necklace for my loved back home. The owners are also local organic pivot farmers - - ask them about there practice. I recommend you go out of your way to find this destination. read more

This is a hidden gem. The food would not be out of place in either San Francisco or New York City. It is tasty, simple, and perfectly portioned. The service may include the owner (who also teaches ballroom dancing) on roller skates. There is a lovely side area to sit if you are so inclined, out of the wind, under a grape vine arbor, or surrounded by flowers and herbs. The home-made bread, which includes herbs grown on-site, is delicious. If you are in the market for art, there are photographs, prints, original paintings, pastels, and wooden objects displayed and for sale; they will ship home if you need it. Most of the framed art includes frames made by a local craftsperson from locally-sourced wood. The town is charming (keep your eyes open for works of art in yards), the river and bluffs are scenic and nearby you can visit a park that includes a portion of the original Oregon Trail still visible to this day.
