It was "colder than a ticket taker's smile..." as Tom Waits might sing, but the fellow working here didn't let his gout stop him from trimming the base of the tree and tying it to the top of my car. I also got a nice potted evergreen plant and a warm feeling in my heart even though I'm more of a Festivus guy than a Christmas celebrant.

I understand that thrifting and vintage shopping often come with some wear and tear, especially in a space of this size, but compared to my favorite resale shops, it doesn't quite measure up. Additionally, the selection doesn't seem to rotate much, and I rarely find more than one or two worthwhile items. If there were a wider, more consistently refreshed inventory, I wouldn't mind the cleanliness issues as much--I love digging through things to find hidden gems. Custom Grown Greenhouses has a large selection of affordable vegetables, herbs, annuals, a small selection of perennials, and they also carried affordably priced pre-made succulent planters (which are really popular and pricey at other garden shops). I did find the tomato I was looking for, and the native grass selection was adequate, although not extensive. I was disappointed that there wasn't much of a trellis selection beyond the most basic trellis, but many things just weren't clearly priced, so you'd have to find an associate. I actually would've bought lots more, had prices just been clearly displayed. This place IS affordable, and it's definitely worth checking out.

As you walk back, you'll pass from room to well-organized room of all sorts of annuals, perennials, vegetables, and other decorative plants. I don't have much of a green thumb myself, but I couldn't help myself from getting a really cool hanging basket with a succulent in it called "string of pearls" or "rosary beads." It looks like a string filled with tiny grapes or peas. It's a cool, unique, and weird houseplant. I've got it hanging on my front porch right now (but thankfully protected from the crazy storms). It's not always immediately clear what something costs just looking at the tables, but it seemed like the staff was buzzing around enough that you could ask easily. They said they would stay open if we wanted to run to the ATM (they don't take CC), but we went back on Saturday instead. They were super nice and helped us put it on the car & tie it down. They're family owned and thanked us for coming back (they recognized us from the previous night). Also, we were told their hours are about 9am-9pm and they are at the same place every year. There is parking on the street 5 steps away from the tree lot for easy loading. FYI - they have a much better lit lot than some of the ones I've seen so you can get a better idea of what you're picking out :)

No, you probably don't really need the extra warranty; but I've been an Ashley customer for years and it seems I always end up using the warranty. Extra $100. I'm 60 years old and live in an upstairs apartment - yes, I need delivery and installation. Tack on another $160. Then taxes, and my $400 chair came to 704.11!
