We had a snafu with our car over the weekend. We had started the car, had it warming up & started loading our kids/stuff in. My toddler was in the backseat as I went to the other side to put my 1 week old baby in. When I got to the other side, somehow the car was locked! I know... worst parent of the year award. Luckily we were in the driveway and he was fine. I couldn't get through to anyone via AAA fast enough but this place is just down the street so I called them. The woman I spoke to on the was very nice and said it'd be about 45 minutes to an hour. When I explained the urgency she diverted someone to our place immediately. This company was dispatched through State Farms third party dispatching company, Agero. After taking a quick look at the reviews of Grandpa's Towing, there's no obvious reason why they wouldn't use them for the tow. Although after my experience I would never think of using them again... Cliff, the owner of the company, arrived within the pick up window after I had an unfortunate suspension failure. After I insisted on having my vehicle driven to my mechanic (which I'm thankful I did because if my vehicle was driven to their storage facility it most likely would have received the same damage without my knowledge of it) we started the drive, but not before he swung by his personal residence for a sandwich. When we arrived, and he started to tip the flatbed truck, my car began to roll freely before the bed got to the ground. Not your typical unloading strategy. My vehicles undercarriage scrapped down the edge and then the front of my car slammed the ground without the front wheel attached (Cliff removed it to load the car) pulling the front bumper off my vehicle. I asked Cliff for a statement, he refused. I asked for his insurance information, he refused. Then he asked me to get my stuff out of the cab of his truck and took off... I was left with my damaged vehicle to figure it out. Luckily my mechanic had cameras, so after 3 months of fighting with Agero I received compensation for the damages. Agero was also an absolute nightmare to deal with as well but that experience is for a different review. I was appalled at the lack of fellow human consideration. Was extremely rude and unhelpful. Told us to call someone else after we expressed concern over how he wanted to load our broken down vehicle onto the truck. Even went as far to insult us before he left and became very agitated. Had to wait for a different company who had no problem finishing the job. Avoid at all costs, unless you like being yelled at. I love it when you find a quality service or trade right in your local community. My wife called at 7:30am to tell me that she had transmission problems and was broken-down on the Hwy 522 off-ramp at Echo Lake. I changed clothes, grabbed a few things, and as I was driving through Monroe at 8am I called Snohomish Transmission (another GREAT local service provider / shop) to alert them to the "incoming repair" and to ask for a tow company referral. I was told that they had several local companies that they used but that "their favorite" was Grandpa's Towing, and gave me the phone number. By 9;30am the car was delivered to the shop and the tow driver had delivered me back home! (I had put my wife in my car and she continued on to "Grandma-duty" in Seattle). They hooked me up and drove me to the nearest gas station out of the kindness of their heart. My Jeep was towed from Kenmore to Bellevue on Oct. 20th, 2012. I paid $30.41 for the tow. I rounded up to $40.00. Dan was my tow truck driver. He arrived with a flatbed and we used surface streets to the repair shop. The interior of the flatbed was clean and did not smell bad. Dan took care of my vehicle on the turns and stops. I witnessed a Grandpa's Towing truck speed up to try to cut in front of passenger bus when entering Hwy 2 near Monroe. Luckily the van driver swerved to avoid being hit by the tow truck. It was serious enough that I called the company to give them a head's up about how unsafe their driver was & to be more aware of safe driving when merging onto a busy highway. Their "manager" said he was the owner & immediately went ballistic & apparently thought I was the van driver. He began screaming that I didn't know how to drive, that I was dangerous, etc. and he hung up on me. Had to call his company 3 times(!) before he stopped yelling long enough to hear that I was NOT the van driver but that I was behind him & witnessed the event. He then switched targets & started yelling that *I* didn't know what I was talking about, that *I* couldn't have seen anything, that *I* didn't know how to drive either, and don't ever call there again. Awesome service! The transmission in my Jeep crapped out on me a few weeks ago on Lowell river road In Snohomish. Thankfully I had towing on my insurance, so I called State Farm and Grandpa's Towing Service ended up taking the job. It took awhile for them to get there, but I also had issues at 6:45 am, I was just grateful they were able to make it out AND find me since getting my coordinates to State Farm was difficult. Extremely friendly, prompt and affordable. Grandpa's Towing is the best. I have had the (mis) fortune of needing them 3 times in the past 2 years. Once they even picked me up and took me back to my truck, then towed it to the dealership. We are very happy with Grandpa's towing. My hybrid would not start, but just had electrical flashes on the panel, so I was stranded. I've had mouse issues, so I didn't realize I had a dead battery. I used my AAA to get my car towed from Kenmore to my mechanic in Auburn. Cant remember who was originally supposed to tow but I guess they were a no show. Grandpa's towing came in for the rescue and arrived at the schedule time and was sweet at pie! True to it's name he had grandma and his granddaughter with for the adventure. Called on Sunday afternoon needing an early Monday 6:00 AM pickup with a flatbed to tow my Porsche Cayenne to the mechanic from my house in Monroe. The driver showed up early, had the car loaded in a couple minutes, then followed me to the mechanic shop in Lake City. The charge was reasonable (insurance is reimbursing me) and everything was quick, courteous, with zero hassles PLUS he was early getting to my house so no issues waiting around. Ridiculous company. I will never use this company or never ever recommend them. My car broke and lost all coolant and my insurance company called Grandpa's Towing to tow my son and I 10 miles. Cliff showed up with a flatbed and was going to try to start my car and drive it up the ramp; I asked him not to start it as it had no coolant and I also did not know what was broken and didn't want further damage. I asked if he could use the winch...not a huge or weird request for a tow truck driver! He told me that myself and my husband (who I was on the phone with) "don't know what we're talking about" and "let me do my job". I told him I just don't want it started. He stomped off yelling at me to "get someone else". He left my 4 year old and I to wait another 2 hours in my cold car. Cliff was very immature, unprofessional and lazy. He didn't want to get under my car in the rain to hook up the winch. The next tow company told me he isn't even supposed to drive it up the ramp...that he has to winch it. He also wondered why Cliff even wanted to start my car as it could have caused more damage. Naturally, when Grandpas Towing originally pulled up I was happy to finally have help. I advise anyone who is in need of roadside assistance or towing to call anyone but Grandpa's Towing. The guy that came out was the rudest person I've had any business dealings with ever! After yelling at me and referring to my daughter (twice) as "it" he decided to storm off leaving us stranded on the side of the road. He left and I called Ford's roadside assist to get someone else. While on the phone with her, the man came back and was leaned over in front of my truck. I got out to see what he was doing and he starting yelling at me and calling me names. He had left a tool there sitting on the ground next to my truck so he came to retrieve it. The lady from Ford roadside asst ask me to get in my truck where It's safe. She asked me to tell her everything that had happened because just based on what she had just heard she wanted to make sure Ford Roadside Assist never uses him again. The following days after this happened I decided I should call and report him to his boss. Except while looking up the business I learned that the guy that treated me like crap is actually the owner! an absolute pleasure to deal with! we had our new car break down the day we bought it, dead battery thanks to an alternator that was bad. he showed up within 15 mins, hooked us up and drove us (from monroe to gold bar) home. on the way he offered to fix the alternator problem for half of what the local rip off, high priced mechanic shop would have charged for it. dropped us off, took the broken car back to his shop and then delivered the fixed car back to us! absolutely above and beyond!!! very gracious and very friendly. he earned a new regular customer!! read more
