After spending a week at this hotel, I have many reasons why I would not recommend it. -The tub in our room did not drain properly, so we were standing in our own bathwater while showering. -There's no fan/vent in the bathroom. -The curtains do not open all the way, so you pay a premium for a lake view and cannot really enjoy half of it unless you sit right in front of it or go outside to an uncomfortable bench on a narrow balcony. -Most of the front desk staff was flat and unhelpful. -We asked the host to refill the black tea bags in the free tea/coffee area several times over the course of a few days-she would not do it and would only hand us 1 or 2 tea bags at a time. Is black tea too expensive and that's why the guests only get green tea?? (even though there was black tea days prior). We are paying $274 a night to be here for a week. That's a lot of money to pay to have to ask for black tea. -Very understaffed in the restaurant at night. I felt bad for the staff, they were trying so hard (except the host, she didn't try at all). -I talked to another guest who had lots of complaints and was on her FOURTH room because she kept having to switch due to issues. -The mini-fridge froze like half the food, (and no I did not put it in the freezer section). -Housekeeping was not prompt (would come around 3pm when we were back in the room to work remotely on a different time zone). -One of the self-service washing machines is SO loud you can literally hear it from 2 floors down. -The free kayaking is closed for the season while the other kayak rental in town is still operating...That was not clear when booking. The first day we were there, it was 85 degrees F and lots of people were out kayaking. It would have been nice to know that that wasn't going to be included. So overall, I would not recommend staying here. We wished we had stayed in Saranac Lake, but in Lake Placid there are plenty of other hotels with great views (and maybe the curtains would actually open all the way so you can see it). read more

Stayed here with my husband and pup for 3 nights. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is older but in a great location. It does sit on top of a big hill which could be a challenge for some if they're wanting to walk everywhere. We enjoyed being able to walk everywhere with our pup. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly very good and had a nice variety of options including an omelette station. The gym had older equipment but good enough for a vacation workout. I've stayed at this hotel a handful of times. This week's stay did not disappoint. Its a favorite especially in Autumn. The location, atop a steep hill, is truly picture perfect with a grand view. From the front desk, to the restaurants, and housekeeping, service does not disappoint. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy friends and family. My husband and I stayed here for a weekend in November for his birthday. The property is lovely! It was a bit rainy so we didn't get to take advantage of the fire pit unfortunately. We also didn't try out the pool because it was a little too busy for my rewired Covid brain but it looked very nice. Our room was very clean and had all the amenities standard for a room these days plus some. I was happy to have a mini fridge for our wine and snacks. Even though we didn't get a room with "a view" the scenery is so nice any direction you look so we were pleased. Our 2nd night there, we ventured to the restaurant. We each had a drink off their specials menu at the bar while we waited for a table. It didn't take long for us to get a table (which is good because we were hungry!) We shared the calamari appetizer, I had the steak with fingerling potatoes and my husband had the chicken sandwich with house made chips. We almost licked our plates clean!! And was even better is that is open until 9:30 PM which is truly a godsend when you spent most of your day outdoors in the cold or driving in the car for long periods of time. I love this hotel! Every time I visit Lake Placid, I will only ever book here. I think the staff is great - helpful, informative and accommodating. The rooms are clean and the lake view rooms are a must. It's just incredible to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise and sunset beyond the lake and mountains. The worst customer service I have ever dealt with in my life. Booked a 2 bedroom suite and got 3 beds in a room for 5 people at $600plus a night. Trued to change rooms upon seeing what we got but the manager couldn't be bothered to help told us to come back in the morning. All other rooms were booked by then. The other families with us only spent $150 a night for our room but only 2 beds. Could have saved a lot and got 2 rooms. Upon checkout we were told to pound slat by the hotel as well as cooperate. We were treated horrible by the managers. The restaurant was completely understaffed. We waited 2 plus hours for a table of 5 to eat after being seated. There were only 5 tables seated in the restaurant At the time. The food was a 2 at best. No way would I ever recommend stay with them. ZERO STARS they lie on your booking. read more

We stayed at Crowne Plaza Lake Placid for a night after visiting Whiteface Mountain. The location of the hotel is on a hill of the town and has a wonderful view of Lake Mirror. It has multiple wings and you have to follow the instructions to take certain escalator or you will not get to your room. Check in-out process was quick and staff was friendly. We got upgraded to a lake view room as IHG member which was pretty nice. Our room was on upper floor and very quiet. The room was not very big but enough for two of us. The shower head was leaking but we fixed it with a towel. They have KCup machine in the room but the coffee tasted pretty bad. Luckily, there are many coffee shops (locals and Starbucks) in walkable distance. Overall, I would still recommend this place since it is the more decent hotel in the town. read more

2020, the year of the Covid. I just completed a 3 day stay here this week and wanted to get my thoughts down while they were still fresh in my head. The hotel is located in the middle of town but up on a hill so you're removed from the traffic and noise. And you get a great view of Whiteface when the weather is clear. Be warned, the walk up the hill to the hotel if you're not driving will leave you breathing hard! The hotel has two large parking lots. This is a big plus for those who want to avoid door dings from inconsiderate folks unloading their entire living rooms for their stay. During check-in all the staff wore masks and was very aware of safety protocols (there was a clean and used pen bins for example). I reserved a "Lake View" room and was assigned a first floor room in the middle older section. Being that low, I could barely see the lake (mountains were fine) and was initially disappointed. Later on I realized that being on first floor mean I can open up the patio door and walk right out to the hotel ground. From what I can see of the balconies above me, they were tiny and could barely fit a plastic chair for sitting outside. I work in the IT field and the first thing I noticed was the very fast internet speeds (for a hotel, 30Mbps/30Mbps). I even found a Cisco Meraki wireless access point in my room closet. I use these at work and they are top notch. So if Internet is important for your family, this is the place to be. Their dining room is huge and beautiful but I didn't eat in there because I had other plans with friends from the area. The fitness center was closed but thankfully the pool area was open 10AM-8PM with an attendant watching to make sure it wasn't too crowded and making you sign in for contact tracing purposes. The pool was large for a hotel pool and had a deeper 9-ft section. I've found that most hotels use photo tricks such as a wide angle lens to make their pools appear huge, this was not the case here fortunately. As for the room itself, all the items are just a little worn but very clean. I understand the newer rooms or suites are in the new section on the far end of the property. Sound insulation was not the best and I could sometimes hear the neighbors talking but thankfully those chatty folks were there for only one night of my stay. I picked this place because I wanted to leave my car here and explore the town by foot. If you're coming in from hotels further out, it's a nightmare to find any decent parking in town (refer to my door ding phobia mentioned above). The property is centrally located and you can walk to all the restaurants that are still open during this time. Most places are only doing a dinner service beginning at 4PM during this off season. I had to extend my stay for one extra night unexpectedly and decided to use my Hilton points for the Hampton Inn a little down the road. The Hampton is newer and they also have a huge parking lot. The rooms and fixtures are a little bit more modern feeling. But, they have a tiny pool and that was closed due to Covid. The Hampton is a little further from town but still walkable. This place caters to families. That's their jam. The rooms are basic and don't have any modern elements for tech. It's got a cozy feel in the common areas but there are children running through the halls and families camping out by the fireplace with fast food. If you want a relaxing place this is NOT it. It has the potential to be a lovely romantic spot but that is impossible with their current clientele. Because they cater to families the food is absolute shite! The breakfast buffet has rubbery eggs and over cooked potatoes but I'm sure it's fine for some. The main dining room is lovely but the food is consistently horrible. I sent two dishes back in one night as neither were edible. My friend's also had issues with their meals. We couldn't enjoy our dinner because we could barely hear each other over all the screaming from people watching the throw ball game. I think I might've stayed more nights at this hotel than any other hotel in my life, weirdly. I was in town for work 15 years ago and stayed for a few weeks, came here with my wife and dog in 2016, and just stayed a weekend again in 2021. For me, it's all about the location. You're downtown in Lake Placid, but being situated on a hill means you are away from the noise and have spectacular views of the mountains. Be prepared for the walk up the hill, though. From the main street, my fitness tracker said it is the equivalent of ten flights of stairs. Didn't eat in the dining room, but it looks incredible. Comfortable beds, pleasant service. We had a room on the back Adirondack wing. Lovely view of the skyline over the top of Herb Brooks Arena. Quiet with friendly staff. A bit more than I normally spend, but for a destination town like Lake Placid and given the location it was not outrageous at all. The view from the other side looking over Mirror Lake is even better. We were here for the 4th of July and a perfect grill to watch the firework show. A wonderful first trip to the area. read more

I have only stayed here once and it was in a room that had not yet been renovated. So, that part of my stay was just so-so. Regardless, this is a really nice property. The location is awesome....the views from the main entrance and some of the rooms are absolutely spectacular. Once you get down the hill, you're right in town. (More about that later).... I attend a conference in Lake Placid every summer and it is supported by the fine folks at the Crowne Plaza. Everyone that I have come in contact with staff-wise always greets us with smiles; I always feel welcome. They're also proactive and super helpful any time someone from the conference asks a question or simply needs something. I have only had the conference food a few times but the reviews are always really positive. I recall having a salad with grilled salmon a couple of years ago and it was delicious. Conference food can generally be meh/bland/boring/gross. Not here - they do a great job with this annual adventure. There's an indoor pool/hot tub on the main level and a great outdoor seating area with those fabulous aforementioned views. Great way to wind down at the end of a conference day with a beverage on one of those chairs overlooking the lake and Adirondacks. If it's too hot, too cold, raining or snowing....head over to the main (great) room for that adult (or non-adult) bevvie near the giant windows on a cozy couch or chair to take in those views. One quick warning: if you have trouble walking uphill/downhill, you'll want to find an alternative means of getting down to the main strip of restaurants and stores. There is a steep driveway down (no stairs) and a concrete staircase (not sure if this is part of their property) that goes directly into town as well. Can't wait to come back. read more

I am puzzled by so many mediocre reviews (although many of them seem to have been left by needy dog parents). This is a wonderful hotel. It is not the Ritz, but it is an excellent value for a Lake Placid vacation. Location = Excellent. Above the main strip with ample parking and stunning views. Rooms = Not enormous but spacious. The bathrooms are big and offered plenty of hot water. Beds were comfy. Staff = Everyone ... Every Single Person we interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable. If they didn't know the answer to our question, they were able to find someone who could. Cleanliness = Spotless. Our room was clean when we arrived and so were the common areas and the restaurant. Restaurant = Gorgeous views, appropriately priced, open late, and the food was tasty. Don't overthink this. If you are used to medium priced hotel accommodations and are planning to visit Lake Placid, book this hotel. I will recommend it everyone willing to listen. read more

Nice staff, spacious and clean rooms, great views AND dog friendly. I was really surprised by this hotel. We staying in early November and had beautiful days and cold nights. We had a room on the ground level facing the lake and it was perfect for my dog: it made taking her on walks super easy and you even have a nice view on ground level. We had a room with 2 queens and one king and it was wonderful. The workout area was roomy enough and had treadmills, ellipticals, bike, weights, and cable machine: perfect for a nice little workout. The hottub was nice to warm up in during the week days (when kids are in school), but was super crowded and full of kids during the weekend. They have a sign for no more than 6 persons, but the adults were not enforcing that with kids. They should have a sign that states "no children under the age of 14 in the hottub". The hotel IS up on the top of a hill so be prepared to walk down steep stairs that aren't the greatest and aren't lit at night either. But thats's not the hotel's fault. You could always drive into town or just enjoy the walk. I was easy for me but not so easy for my senior dog (14) and senior mom (71). I loved that they had a lot of green space for me to walk my dog. Also, there is a really nice lobby area/restaurant/bar with amazing views. read more

We didn't know what to expect from the food here going off online reviews but we were pleasantly surprised?! The burgers really hit the spot after a long day on the road and a late check in. The fries were pleasantly plump and the draft beer tasted sharp. Comfort food done simply and well. Service was excellent (a beautiful smiley server whose name escapes me!) and the views, of course, were terrific. We stayed here with a group of forty students (we were visiting colleges in the area). The rooms were clean and spacious. The walls a razor thing but the was not a lot of noise. The view from the hotel is breathtaking (I love the Adirondack chairs by the fire pit). The bar is amazingly beautiful. Too bad we are only staying for a night. We took the group to the Olympic rink to ice skate, which is in walking distance to the hotel. We had a good breakfast in the morning. It's nice....but that's about all i can say. Given the price paid and the room received, we won't stay there again but it's nice. It's reasonably Dog Friendly but you're not allowed to leave your dog in the room and you can't bring them to dinner....soooo..... eating at hotel is not an option. However the family did go to the restaurant and rated it as average. Food was ok but not great but there are so many great restaurants in town that support our furry pals. We're moving to the Lake House (very dog friendly) and our other friends are also bailing today for Whiteface. If nothing else is available it's ok. We book this hotel for our 5th anniversary getaway. It was suppose to be a deluxe room with a lake view. We arrived late (1:30am) got to our room and noticed it was large with a fireplace and kitchen. It was much bigger than expected. When we woke up, our romantic lake view turned in to a parking lot view. They didn't honor out reservation! We spoke to the desk clerk and she told us we didn't reserve a lake view room. So either they were telling us we were incompetent and didn't know what we booked or were lying to us. However, they could downgrade us to a lake view room on the first floor. We looked at the room but you could barely see the lake. They even told us we had to hurry and make a decision because checkin/out time was close. So after thinking about it, I realized they must have given our room away because we arrived late. When we showed up they gave us a suite to compensate us for the error. They didn't even tell us we were upgraded because it would have tipped us off that our room was not what we booked. The room was still a disappointment. The suite is not that nice. The fire place is fake. The bathroom only has a stand up shower in it with a faux tile plastic wall and cheap aluminum glass door. It was on pair with a motel 6 bathroom. The televisions are tiny especially the one sitting on a 'fake' fireplace mantle. This getaway was a disappointment caused by the crown plaza hotel staff. IHG hotels you ruined our anniversary. The next anniversary I promise you will not be in a IHG hotel. This crown plaza hotel should only be a three star hotel at best. It lacked the luxurious finishes, amenities with a staff could use some training on courtesy and professionalism. read more

My family member is a fellow GM at another IHG property. He had his staff call before I made my reservation to see if any special rate could be offered. They informed the staff that the hotel was busy but not sold out and they would see what they could do. I was instructed to first book the room directly through the hotel website rather than the lower fares available that were showing on HotelTonight and Expedia (which results in lower fees for the hotel). At checkout I followed back up and spoke to the GM regarding his team looking into what rate they were offering. Ray really could have cared less. He stayed "no one ever called". I said yes they had as his staff had informed us about the hotel being fairly busy (but not sold out). This information meant nothing to Ray. He had a terrible and dismissive attitude and just blew it off and they charged me the maximum rate (I would have stayed elsewhere or at least booked through HotelTonight if I had known this when we inquired). Ray could have just made any kind of effort whatsoever to make the situation better. It's hard to believe he's a GM. I get it. The hotel is in a good location and there are busy times of year so Ray can act like a moron towards guest service as much as he pleases and it won't impact occupancy rates in the short-term. And it's the only hotel I've ever stayed at where you can't get or purchase a simple bottle of water other than going to a vending machine and being charged $2.75! I'll be staying elsewhere in the future. read more

We stayed in the Tower Suite in the new wing of the hotel in Feb. 2007. All five of us plus a 2-year old...and there was still plenty of room for more! Our suite had 1 bedroom with a huge tub and toilet, 1 bathroom, a huge livingroom with a queen size sofabed, queen size murphy bed, fireplace and a flat screen tv, a full kitchen, and a dining table. We were able to see the Olympic ski jump from our livingroom! The hotel also has an indoor pool, a beautiful Great Room, and it's about 15 mins away from Whiteface. This place is cozy and clean but it's a bit pricey and my cousin made the accomodations so I don't know what the customer service is like. Ask for a room in the new wing and check for deals online especially ones that include lift tickets! Our stay came out to about $200 a person for 2 nights (without lift tickets). read more

The view of the lake is not as nice as expected, the so called balcony is NOT nice and hardly big enough to sit on, the room is dark and dated and looks more like a motel room. The photos online made the place look worth the price but it's worth less than half of what I was charged. The lobby area is nice and the great room although not as great as the photo online, is still very nice. Too bad the room is such a disappointment. My husband and I were planning on a romantic weekend and possibly a third night stay but now we will definitely be ready to leave early.
