I had my wedding cake made here 31 years ago and returned this year for a Christmas cake. The design, a pretty blue and silver "winter" theme is beautiful (forgot to take pictures before digging in)! I chose chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling and buttercream icing. The filling is so luscious and not overly rich or sweet. It is a terrific balance to the moist, tender, and amazing chocolate cake. The buttercream is also not overly sweet, creating a perfect balance overall. This bakery is conveniently located in Sugarhouse and has decent food. They have wonderful donuts, but the apple fritters could be better because they taste dry and lack in apples. The cinnamon knots are a family favorite and their bread is wonderful, too! You have to special order their bread, but sometimes they have it in the main area. Their cakes are moist and flavorful. The service is great! The employees are kind, helpful, and efficient. I have never had an issue with their employees. The ambiance is small and bakery-like. There is no seating, so you will not be able to eat there. They also have a small, tight parking lot that fills up quickly on Saturday's and around any holiday. read more

Came by to pick up some baked goods for our dogs vet (squeezed us in after our dog got into some serious trouble) as they are the closest bakery to us and we walk there frequently. I have never had an issue, and especially love the lemon poppy and lemon chiffon cakes for birthdays/special celebrations. I walked in and was standing in the back, trying to decide if I wanted to go with something pre-packaged or pick from the counter, by the time I was ready, a few other people were in the store, and I offered to one who was ready to go ahead but the lady at the counter called me up anyways. So I started pointing out 6 items (the orange rolls and the cinnamon knots) and the lady proceeded to pull out Weiner schnitzel bags (I wouldn't have normally minded but saw they had regular brown bags and found that odd) as well I need more items and would feel silly showing up to the vet clinic with a couple of those bags so I asked for a box. The lady proceeded to ask me if I was going to fill up the box (I understand boxes cost more, especially than fast food bags but I have never been asked this before), and I replied "yes, please. I'm picking out several items" and she seemed very disgruntled by my ask. However I trudged through and asked her what the items in the cookie box were to which she replied "cookies." I replied "yes, I wanted to know what flavors?" She replied begrudgingly at this point, so I picked out 6 cookies + some Oreo cakester things because we were all ready this far and the vets/techs/receptionists still deserve a box packed with goods. Thankfully the rest of the interaction ended okay. I have never been treated like this before at this establishment but can safely say I won't be back (we have been coming here for 5 years and my family for 15+). There are better bakery places (Tulies, Delice, Fillings, Creme de, Carol's, Chubby Baker, Forty Three, TOUS, Gourmandise, etc) who treat customers like me a lot better. read more

So esthetically they do a great job but for the amount they charge def there is a lack of options available for flavors. The cake was moist but the filling was lacking . Omg I loveee this bakery so much! When I moved to Salt Lake City and found this bakery within a block of my house I took a walk over and tried two things. The first was a cinnamon knot, think the best parts of a cinnamon roll without the frosting, in a three bite size piece. The second the almond danish, which was immediately the best that I have ever had. I highly recommend this bakery and while I haven't tried everything, the things I have tried and keep going back for are the most delicious. I ordered a customized 2 layered spaceship cake for my son's birthday, which turned out to be a huge disappointment. This cake cost me $190. My husband went pick up the cake. They put the rocket in a separate box. They said if they put it on top of the cake, it might fall off the cake on the bumpy road. We can just put it onto the cake after we get home. However, the wings of the rockets were so fragile that they broke when my husband got home. The rocket had a stick through the whole body. We tried to put the rocket onto the cake however the stick couldn't go all the way down the cake because they put cardboard between the layers. Apparently they didn't even test putting on the rocket. They just made us try our luck. We cut the stick short and tried again. however, the rocket was too heavy to stand with the short stick. So we ended up just lying the rocket on top of the cake. This is not over yet. They left needle pin in the cake! More than one! We invited some kids to the party. I can't imagine what would happen if I didn't catch the needle. Again, huge disappointment! read more

I've had some really delicious items and some pretty not delicious items here so it's difficult to rate! The first time I tried it I had one of their cakes with a layer of chocolate cake, a layer of vanilla cake, and chocolate frosting. It was so good! Then I had some of their sugar cookies. I was never a huge fan of sugar cookies but theirs won me over. Super soft, and they have real thin icing (not buttercream which I would normally prefer), but somehow it all comes together as a perfect sugar cookie. These were both 5 star items. Then I had a cake with almond frosting. It tasted like they had dumped a whole bottle of almond extract in the frosting. Seriously. I LOVE almond flavor anything, but this was just too much. I don't understand how a bakery wouldn't be able to gauge that. It was very disappointing. This was like a 2.5 star item. They have always been pretty busy when I've gone, but service is fine. Pretty average. Prices are moderate as well. They carry many different kinds of cakes along with some other treats too. They are really probably like a 3.5 star bakery, but I'll give em four. I don't know if the almond cake was just a weird accident, but it certainly didn't recommend them to me, and I haven't been back since, although I'd be willing to try them again in the future. read more

My first time visiting this establishment. As soon as you walk into the baking heaven, the different smells are just amazing. Wish you can bottle it up and take it home as an air freshner. Staff here is very friendly. They have everything here from, cakes, ice cream cakes, to cookies and donuts. Also, they have a wedding cake section too. They created a special banner for their Boston Strawberry cake for my sons bday and it looked amazing. I have ordered a couple of cakes from this place already and every single time they never disappoint me. I just picked up a cake from them, all I told them that I wanted a cake like mushu...it sucks that they are not able to make mushu because of the "copyright" thing. The dragon cake came out so pretty. The taste of the cake was great. They offer different variety of cakes, the one I got was strawberry swirls with chocolate middle. The cake was a little bit too sweet for us, but it was delicious. There was a lot cream on the cake also. It was quiet interesting. The picture will show it. read more

I have been a customer for 14 years and will NO LONGER GO TO GRANITE BAKERY. I have never been treated with such disrespect in my whole life. Paige was the employee who "helped" me and my 5 yr old. When I simply asked how much detail would be included for my $30 up charge, she wouldn't talk to me nor explain anything to me. I said that was fine and asked if I could just be in touch with the decorator to get the info and she wouldn't tell me if that was possible. She then stopped talking to me and slammed the door behind me when we left. I have not been treated well here for the last couple of years but this is the last straw. So bizarre this girl even has a job and that it is on to treat customers like that. There were two other employees in the front room who witnessed all of this and they said nothing. read more

Two tier marble cake requested 1 month in advance. Upon pick up, the business does NOT offer a box to transport the cake. Is this normal?? They proceeded to provided me a 1x1" non slip pad and suggest I place this exposed cake on my vehicle floor. The same place shoes, feet, dirt, hair, etc., accumulate in Utah weather with highs in the 100s. I've never been to a pizza parlor not expecting a box to contain my pizza, so maybe my expectations were too high or common sense is oblivious to this business. Cake was not marble as requested...
