literally the worst bank I have ever had the displeasure of using so many problems with the app, withdrawing, simple purchasing. When traveling I gave them plenty of notice that I will be using the card and withdrawing the currency of the country I was in and when I got there nothing worked and was put through a loop trying to get the card to work. After each call I was put through automated answering machines that asked for things I couldn't access due to the app not working. If you want a half decent debit card just go to a chase bank or literally anything else. read more

I have been a member at the Manchester NH branch for well over fifteen years. This branch will conveniently wait to clear your direct deposit if there is a pending charge and they know you'll overdraft. I had money in several other accounts and typically am charged a 5 dollar transfer fee. The issue was when I tried explaining it to the member service representative, she was rude, didn't want to deal with it and basically told me too bad. I had to fight with her to have a manager give me a call back at the actual Manchester branch. The woman who called me was also rude and basically told me too bad and that I should watch my money better. I actually have this message on my voicemail, which was their first mistake. Are they aware that the online banking works once a month and the phone line are almost archaic? I'd love to watch my money too, if I had a bank that had an online banking system that actually worked. I think it's time we go to a different credit union. Ashley, my new contact there, was very helpful and understanding, and answered all my questions regarding the initial denial. We changed the scope of the loan (it had expanded during the original application) and I was approved for my original request. Excellent follow-up experience. All good, if its a bad investment for them I get it. I asked for more information on what they were looking for in regards to reapplying and what it would take to get approved. Its one thing to not approve a loan. Again, not an issue. But for them to not tell me specifically why it was denied and how I could improve my chances of getting approved (other than simply suggesting "get a cosigner") was frustrating to say the least. He told me that the loan was finished and ready to be processed if I choose to and he explained the policy and also apologized for the hold up of the length of time things were taking to get done. YOUR MONEY IS NOT SAFE AT GRANITE STATE CREDIT UNION. They have no security to protect your money against fraud. And if (when!) you become the victim of a scam, they do nothing to help you- they won't even forgive the overdraft fees incurred when thieves have emptied your account. Credit unions are meant to be member- and community-focused, but Granite State Credit Union relies on "policy" so they can keep as much of their members' money as possible instead of doing what is best (and just) for them. They're no less corrupt than Bank of America, but at least BoA has the money to spend on proper security. Shame. read more

I have been banking with GSCU for well over 10 years. I have had some minor issues up until recently and it has gotten worse over the years. I was married this year and they refused to change my last name to my new legal name despite me having my marriage certificate, my new drivers license (real ID), and Social Security card. In addition, I was impacted by fraud where a fraudulent "business" posing as a student discount airline company accepted funds and then never provided an itinerary or boarding passes. I did everything that GSCU asked of me. Called the merchant several times. They turned out to be an out of country company and did nothing to help and even hung up on me multiple times. Then finally when informed that this transaction was being disputed they stated that they sent the information to a mystery email that did not exist. I contacted GSCU multiple times ( likely over 10 times) over the phone and in person over the course of 2 months. GSCU did not once seem like they wanted to help. One employee even implied that it was my fault. Another employee on Elm Street in person refused to take notes and told me to go home and call the merchant for the third time, wait another 48 hours, and the call GSCU back. Now, after all of this is done each time I call GSCU to follow up, nobody knows what I am talking about and there are no notes under my account and it's as if I am calling for the first time. This is over $450 with of my hard earned money and GSCU pretends to offer fraud protection. Finally I am told a dispute will be filed. For over 3 weeks I hear nothing. I call GSCU back. I was told that I was to send an email with an account of the whole incident. The incident that I have explained to GSCU over the phone many many times for weeks and weeks. I do that. They submit the dispute. I wait another 3 weeks. Nothing. I call back. I speak to a manager and she issues a provisional credit. 3 weeks later the provisional credit is revoked with no notification. I call GSCU to ask why. I receive an email that states that the merchant provided proof that they emailed the itinerary and boarding pass to the mystery email. Remember this is the email that I told GSCU multiple times did not exist. GSCU decided to revoke the credit anyway. I was told that a dispute can only be filed once. This is very frustrating since this is negligent on the credit unions part as I provided all of the correct info all along. It seems like GSCU due to their disorganization and unprofessionalism wad the reason I lost out on my hard earned money. I am a hardworking honest citizen with bills to pay and children to house and feed like the rest of us. I'm not the one trying to run a scam here. I will be closing my account at the end of the month and transferring to another local credit union who had been wonderful for another family member. read more

There was fraud on my account and they had zero protections in place to prevent this. I closed those accounts and opened new ones only to learn that I am no longer "eligible " for online banking for 6 months due to this fraud that they didn't protect me from. Why am I being punished?? The next day I withdrew all my funds except the amount that is in dispute and once that's resolved, which can take up to 45 days!!!!, I will close everything. Adam has helped me in two occasions. Both times, he laid out the information clearly and addressed my financial wishes. My accounts have not contained hidden fees yet. App upgrade to not function on phone it previously worked on. Online web access kept locking me out as (correct) password didn't want. Many voice calls to reset password as online resets never worked even once. Then it repeats to refuse new password. We all have gone threw password resets. I'm no different, but there system was for some reason always refusing the correct password. Probably the same programmer that does the app upgrades. After not having real time access a got some overdrafting fees. 2 I earned, then 3 happened back to back, not earned, no money was given to cover, no overdrafts completed to involve fees, yet was charged over $300 total for overdraft coverage that never was covered. Then several more times of resetting password to Web access, none of Wich ever worked I was done. I can only take so much ass reaming from one company. Didn't connect a checking account overdraft protection account I closed on to my checking account costing me a great loss. Got an I'm sorry for the mistake. Online banking app is a joke, not user friendly and nearly 5 hours on chat and phone "support" to reset a password when I switched cell phones. 3rd party fraud dept has made it impossible to use my debit card from nearly all online app based retailers such as Walmart.com, Dunkin' Donuts app, Barnes and Nobles etc... To save the 5.99 a month on checking account fees, I have spent 10+ hours on useless support calls, charged hundreds in fees and took a big hit to my credit from the errors they have made. This has all been only the last 6 months. Can't wait to get away from the worst banking service ever. Just wish I didn't have to suffer more credit inquiries to get they're auto loan paid off. -10 stars should b a choice for rating GSCU read more

Apparently you cannot go into this credit union and get change unless you have an account, I went there with large bills that I wanted to change out for smaller bills, this requires an account and a drivers license. They made me fill out a deposit slip and a withdrawal slip just to get smaller bills! What happened to this country when you could just go into a bank or a credit union and ask for change, not anymore not at this credit union! And they said that this is their policy, I even asked if somebody went in there with a $20 bill and wanted 20 1$s they would not give it to them unless they had an account and a drivers license and the proper paperwork to support it read more

GSCU is great. Free checking and a good mobile app. You can put your card on hold if you misplace it, and if you need to replace it they can do it in the branch same day. Staff has always been super helpful, and although they do use an outside call center you can still reach the local branch by phone if you work the automated system right lol. read more

I love our credit union, especially after horrible experiences when Bay Bank merged several times and we ended up with Bank of America . Nice people and the same staff year after year at all the branches. Have had several car loans with them, easy as pie. Also they work with you to get most affordable option. The only thing they don't have is foreign currency b/c they are not a bank. A few times my business account with them (I don't use it much so it was easy prey) got hacked and they deleted the charges instantly- since then they have gotten some type of watchdog service over the accounts and no more trouble. It is such a relief to be able to deal with real people at a tangible location instead of someone in India on an 800 number - there is no comparison. I can't wait to switch my mortgage to them. read more

I've been a GSCU customer for years because of their customer service, but I've been considering switching lately. GSCU has amazing service, tellers are always friendly, and unlike some banks I've dealt with in the past, I've never felt a sense of hostility. With that said, GSCU's online services leave a lot to be desired. It's the tail end of 2014, and they're still lacking some pretty simple features I expect to be standard for online banking. For one, transfering funds between accounts can't happen online. Sure, you can transfer from your personal checking to your personal savings, but you can't do the same kind of transfer from a business checking to personal or vice versa. [Edit: Apparently, this can be done if you go into the office and link the accounts, which requires paperwork. However, this still creates a huge security risk, as my business checking is managed by multiple people (non-GSCU account holders, but authorized account users) and linking the business accounts with my personal accounts would allow non-GSCU members to transfer funds out of my personal account.] Similarly, the ability to make a deposit to another GSCU account can't be done online. [Edit: A friend and another GSCU customer informed me of PopMoney integration, which I suppose mitigates one of these complaints. Unfortunately, it's still a third-party service and fees apply, giving it no major advantage over other third parties like PayPal.] I could see the security implication of allowing transfers into someone else's account being a reason to not allow it at all, but GSCU will do the same service in-person, so I don't think there's a valid reason for not offering the service on the website. The online bill pay is good, including the ability to send teller checks to individual using it, but it's lacking the ability to set trigger-based events. For instance "pay this amount to this bill every day on the 3rd and 18th" or "Send these payments when a direct deposit comes in". Automating personal finance is one really effective tool for budgeting, and I feel that I need to wrestle with GSCU to get things even minimally automated. Their website is not even a single clearinghouse for all of the services they offer. Their credit cards, for instance, require an entirely different site to manage as does the rewards program (this one doesn't bother me as much, but still...) GSCU really needs to update their PIN policy as well. 4 digit PINs are so 2000. I'd be very happy to see the ability to use much longer pins, or even better something along the lines of the system used in Brazil to generate one-time pins. GSCU ATM and Debit cards also do not have smartchips, despite a recent change to how they issue the cards. This is extremely annoying for anybody who uses their debit card while in Europe, as nearly every European vendor requires them, and *all* automated systems like subway ticket terminals and vending machines. Other US banks are rolling them out in time for the 2015 mandate, and I was disappointed to see that GSCU's new debit cards didn't have that additional security. All in all, I am still a customer of GSCU because of their exceptional service, but it could be better. I'm hoping GSCU manages to make some of these changes and improvements before I need to open accounts elsewhere that allow me to do fairly simple things. read more

You know what I love? I love that I got a car loan through GSCU and it was cut and dry. Not only was it super easy, but they helped me with the car buying process. Sure, I had to find the cars but they gave me the retail value. It was easy to haggle with a bottom line number in my head. I found about 5 different cars before I found the one for me. With each one, I called the bank and gave them the VIN, mileage and description and they gave me the retail value. This information was invaluable to me. My husband and I have been members at GSCU (Concord) for about a year and we've had a great experience so far. Very happy for their convenient location to our work. Hours are good and we've been treated cheerfully and respectfully every time we go there. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that we would like cash deposits through their ATM to be available immediately or the very latest the next morning at open of business. I have been a customer for several years and I am disappointed with their customer service policies and banking processes. They have recently had a technology update that has caused problems which have been very difficult for them to solve. My On-Line banking was cancelled due to the Technology changes and I had to spend 35 minutes on the phone talking to Customer Service that brought no results except for accusing me of not listening to their ill-defined reasons for the cancellation. Their explanation was confusing and they were the party who was not listening to my questions, directed at trying to determine why I had lost my On-Line Banking privileges. To re-register I was asked for my ss# which I refused to post on the Internet.( I found later that GSCU recommends using their secure access interface which was no even mentioned in their request for a SS#). I contacted Customer Service Supervisor and she was just as difficult to deal with to solve the problem. She , finally, said the system was down for a banking update and told me I should visit a GSCU facility and talk to a bank manager. After spending all that time on the phone, with no results, I had to go to a GSCU branch. The manager spent the better part of a half hour trying to get my On-Line banking re-established with no success. He then proceeded to suggest I return home and he would call me when he, supposedly, solved the problem. I refused and said I would not leave the facility until they had solved the problem they were responsible for. Another 20 minutes went by, during which he made several calls to other departments trying to get to the bottom of the problem. I am very disappointed with runaround I received from customer service and the amount of effort and time the bank manager, and customer service took to, FINALLY, find a way out of the mess their Technology update had caused. All in all I was involved with various individuals for approximately an hour and had to visit a facility, in person, to solve a problem that should have not occurred. The Technology update should have been seamless and with no inconvenience or aggravation to a customer. In addition, their check writing restrictions are confusing and fly in the face of common sense and fairness to their customers. I found this by asking a few common sense questions explained in the following; I was told that if I attempt to deposit a check made payable to me from another source before the date appearing on the check the deposit would not be honored or posted to my account until that day was reached. So far so good... I agree with that process, but here is where the inconsistency in their own rules comes in. They will honor and remove funds from my account if they receive a check I had dated and sent to a vendor before the date appearing on the check. I pay my bills by check and I date them to insure the funds will not be removed to insure TWO THINGS: 1. The check will get to the vendor in time to satisfy his payment date 2. Insure the funds will be in the checking account to satisfy the payment amount If GSCU will not honor a deposit until the date on a deposit check they should not honor a request from a vendor until the date on the payment check is valid. This seems reasonable and consistent but their failure to be fair and consistent was explained away by putting the responsibility on government regulations which the manager never substantiated beyond his verbal assertion of such a rule. I feel this inconsistency should be made very clear to potential customers when they open a checking account with GSCU so they will never face a "Funds Not Available" situation and possible monetary penalty from the vendor or GSCU I intend to move to a banking company that will listen to reasonable requests for meaningful explanations to banking procedures and not accusing me of not listening to their one-sided, confusing, and contradicting explanations read more

If you are a hardworking individual that wants a place where you can trust those who handle your money, then Granite State Credit Union is not the place for you! My husband and I once had an account with them for several years. We closed the account and recently paid off our unpaid balance. But, they continue to report to the credit union, that we never paid them in full. They continue to wreck our credit. Recently, they took it upon themselves to also close a savings account without notice of intent. They never called us to let us know their intentions. I went to the bank today to find out that the monies that I had saved with someone else, has been put into a check that they decided to mail to us. They closed our account. A check for a lot of monies is floating around somewhere. It is not in an account where I placed it. Alicia from customer service was rude, and condescending when I asked her why this was done. She told us that we will no longer be allowed to be a Granite State customer. My funds are being mailed to me, at some point. I have been lied to, and called a thief, among other things. I have been refused to be permitted to talk to Alicia's supervisor, and given incorrect contact names and numbers that don't exist. I have also been refused to be given a receipt for proof that my account was in good standing, as they continue to report that it isn't. Don't trust this Credit Union to be honest with you. This review pertains to their branch in Tilton, NH. We wanted to open accounts here for convenience. We're new to this area, and live just 4 miles away. Despite being the only customers in the place, and at least 3 employees working, the one guy who ponderously dealt with us from behind his desk took 57 minutes from the time we entered to the time we left. An hour of our lives, gone, to open up a savings (HA! 0.05% interest) and checking account for me, my wife, and a joint account for us. An hour, for what should have taken 15-20 minutes at most. Unless you don't put any value on your time and just want to enjoy their air conditioning, I would discourage anybody from doing business with this outfit. We intend to close our accounts immediately, and who knows how long that might take. But shame on us if we continue to do business with them. They should have deposited $100 in each of our "savings" accounts for wasting our time to such a degree. Terrible service. Banking these days has to be fast. No excuse for anything else. I have had Nothing but Trouble with this Credit Union and I only opened my account 3 months ago. They have all kinds of hidden rules and expect you to be a mind reader. For example, I deposited a check in THEIR ATM for a mere $25. They put a hold on it for TWO Days!!!! I have never heard of such a thing. So now I have yet another fee and my mortgage did not go thru. Money is tight and I did my best to make sure this didn't occur Had I know I would have driven there with the cash at opening this morning. Their Online Banking is ridiculous also. If you make ONE error Logging in, You're done and have to call them to reset and start over. Every time you call you have to give them every single piece of information about you since birth to get them to speak with you. How about providing a secret passcode instead of wasting my time?!
