I only have one complaint. On line banking down without any warning. I try and do phone banking,,, entered my pin as asked,, the only pin I know. Now my account is locked. My main complaint,, no 24 hour customer service. Not the number I got for 24 hour phone service. Unless it means 24 hour phone banking service. Be nice if it said that's all the number is. Well since I have an hour of no purchasing power I think now is the best time to express my immense disappointment with this awful bank. I can go buy snacks from a city gas station 3-6 hours from my home address without a flag, but cannot go down the street from my house to purchase a firearm without a full decline. So much for ammendment rights. But someone could run off with it in providence RI and buy an entire gas station. Here in NYC I made a booking with the card, went to the hotel with the card that was already charged up front partially by the booking and it gets flagged. After waiting an hour on the phone I get to go through the account verification twice that's also in ear shot of everyone so that's secure, only to discover there is A daily 15 transaction limit on any purchase you do is which is ridiculous, especially when hopping from train to train. Their staff tho kind are super limited. what's funny is as a plumber I'm expected to be on call in an emergency 24/7. st Mary's claims this but when I needed to get home via the train my account got flagged on a Saturday and no one could answer their automated emergency phone system. St. Mary's Credit Union further reviewed my account at St. Mary's credit union in Concord and decided to accept our account for our "rainy day fund" and accepted us for the account. I guess it must have just been a misunderstanding on why it was not approved. My son started business with St. Mary's Credit Union more than a decade ago and after his first loan has never gone to another bank for any financial needs because they made him feel like an important customer, always treated him with respect. read more

I went in to get an auto loan. They ran my credit, then said they could do it at that moment and that I would need to come back later after approval from the underwriting team. Sometime later, they called and informed me that I was approved. I asked about the loan closing process, and she informed me I would need to come in again to do a membership and open a checking account with autopay (to avoid a $50 fee), so that we can schedule a loan closing date at a later date. She assured me that she would start the process and it would be a quick visit. During this account setup process, she entered the wrong Social Security number, and now the account is flagged. Realizing their mistake, they then tried to amend and enter the correct Social Security number, but the system now needs an override from a branch manager. Now, I am not sure if it was a power trip, a lack of things to do, or performing "due diligence" on a foreign-looking person, she decided that even though I was a member at St Mary's Bank before with the same information (Name, address, SSN, etc), she aware the only reason for the flag was due to their mistake, and was shown my W-4 on my phone with my full name, employer (same as in the application), and the last 4 digits of my SSN. She still wanted to see my actual SSN card with my name. I was surprised she did not ask for my immigration status and visa. But to make her happy, I came in with social security card with my name on it along with my US passport in case she had any other questions. Needless to say, I did not proceed with the loan. I walked in just trying to get an auto loan. They immediately ran my credit and told me I'd have to come back later after the underwriting team gave their approval--which, fine, I get it, that's standard. But then, after a wait, they call me up and say I'm approved. I ask about the next steps, and I'm told I have to come in again, open a checking account, and set up autopay just to dodge a $50 fee. Great, more hoops to jump through, but whatever--she promises it'll be quick. Except, of course, it's not. During the account setup, she enters the wrong Social Security number. That flags the account. Their screw-up, not mine. They try to fix it, enter the correct number, and now the system locks up and needs a manager's override. Seriously? Then, even though I've been a member at St Mary's Bank before--same name, same address, same SSN--I'm treated like I'm a suspect. She's aware that the only reason my account is flagged is because they messed up, and I even showed her my W-4 with all the matching info and the last four digits of my SSN on my phone in the ADP payroll app. Still, she insists on seeing my actual SSN card. What, is this a power trip? Is she bored? Or is she just being extra "diligent" because I look foreign? Now, I'm half expecting her to ask for my immigration status or visa next. So, just to satisfy her, I come in with my Social Security card with my name on it and my US passport with my name on it (in case she wants to call ICE). But honestly, this whole experience was ridiculous. Needless to say, I walked away and didn't bother finishing the loan process. I refuse to jump through any more unnecessary hoops, or support a branch that is willing to treat people this way. read more

Have to go through several people and repeat information again and again and still have to wait for someone to 'help' you which was another 1/2 hour. I have an auto loan and wanted to pay it off in full before financing a new vehicle. I have never had such a hard time trying to pay off a loan before! First, you cannot check your loan balance using the online portal. You can see your payment history but it is impossible to find the original amount owed and remaining balance without opening an account with them. Every time I wanted to check the balance I had to call, but they were quick to point out that the balance probably does not include compounding interest so it is probably wrong. Why? When I went to pay off my remaining balance of 5,500 they told me it was not possible, because the online portal has a 5,000 limit. Ok. So I paid 5000 and then it took more than a business day to post the payment, and then they would not tell me the remaining balance because interest had accrued and the 5,000 payment hadn't posted yet, so I have no idea how much I have left! The only other option would be to send a check via snail mail, which would end up being the incorrect amount because of interest.... how the hell am I supposed to pay this loan in full? I was then told it would take 3 weeks to get my title after paying off the loan since there are no branches in my state. I could walk to NH and back in 3 weeks... I am literally trying to give them my money and they are making it as difficult as possible. read more

After over 30 years of being a customer, I can say that I am disappointed and shocked at how unwilling to help the staff is. After spending 30 minutes with four people, two of whom were Sunny and Scott both said they were supervisors. These people could not have been any more rude. I am allowed to deposit money but may only transfer 5000. a week into an outside bank( that pays much better rates). On top of this, I am told that the only way I can receive the total funds is by bank check. So I can not transfer or withdraw all the cash in my account. All the years of business and personal banking mean nothing to this bank anymore. It is a shame they used to be a customer-friendly bank. St. Mary's will cost you more than it will save you when it comes to car payments. First they lost the title of our vehicle, made us pay for a new one to be printed and then hounded us to send them the title after we got it and used it to register the vehicle. Now we switched bank accounts and have a paper trail switching the AUTOMATIC PAYMENT to the new bank with confirmation in the middle of November the payments will not be affected for November/December. Well they decided not to switch anything after confirming they were, and are now telling us we have to pay both nov/Dec payments 6 days before Christmas or be charged multiple late fees. Place sucks and the employees don't do their job from the top down. read more

So my wife went in to st Mary's bank on McGregor st Manchester.We had an appointment with a Chinese lady to do a lease buy out.We have been members for 10 plus yrs.The lady was telling us we need to fill out the paperwork and call the lease company and I asked her isn't that your job.She then says well yes I guess we can do it we where asking for a loan for $22000 and the car is worth $42.000 that's an $20.000 profit for the bank my wife's score was not bad but not in the 750 either but not far off. They claim to have 24/7 support but they don't. So far I have had my card locked twice for suspected fraud. I'm okay with that but the fact that I can't contact anybody until normal business hours is unacceptable. Being stuck on the road and not being able to access your account isn't good. The systems at this bank are terribly archaic. Business accounts and personal accounts are treated as external "banks" to each other, they are extremely aggressive with overdraft fees, and seem to strategically deposit money at their convenience, like at the end of the day's transactions so that they can riddle you with NSF charges ahead of your same day deposit. The worst service I have ever received with a company. I had to make a few calls to resolve a time sensitive issue that was an error on their part. The branch would not help and kept putting me on hold with their 800 number. I was at work and could not sit on hold but this had to be corrected right away. They finally called back when i left a message that I was going to leave their bank. She stated how to fix their error but i questioned their fix because her fix was to do an internal transfer when there were already transfers in place. Her response was to yell at me and lecture me on how I should be a better customer service representative (because she knows where I work) and actually hung up on me. I have an auto loan with them. Once it is paid off I never wish to hear the name St. Mary's Bank. God forbid you make an actual payment in ADVANCE of the due date like on the last day of the prior month. They will send you notifications that you are behind on your payments as they simply ignore the payment coupon due date and apply the payment to your principal. I received an advertisement in the mail regarding their first time home buyer rates and programs. I was very interested in working with them, so I went online and filled out an application with all of my personal information in hopes of hearing back from someone who could answer my initial questions and discuss a possible pre-qualification. I quickly received a confirmation email from Mary Sullivan, who let me know she'd be in touch and to contact her with any questions. After almost a week of hearing nothing, I emailed Mary to follow up, and when I received no response, I called the next day. After again receiving no response, I called the main mortgage line and left another message. To be fair, I believe someone did call me back eventually, but I instead had already gone to Service Credit Union, who called me back immediately and had made more progress with me in 24 hours than St. Mary's Bank did in a week and a half. Undoubtedly terrible communication and, in my opinion, poor customer service as well. St Mary's Title Company is the worst I've ever dealt with. Owned by St Mary's Bank, this is a review of the title company only. I did not engage with St Mary's title as I was a home seller. The borrowers chose them. Their lack of thoroughness and empathy towards anyone is remarkable. They didn't respond prior to closing until the last moment causing great grief for myself and my family. At closing the screwed up paperwork causing the buyers to wait around for an extended period of time, they screwed up my paperwork requiring the jumping through of hoops to resolve so I could receive my pay out TWO days later. I cannot say their employees were not pleasant, because they were. Everyone was very nice and tried their best to fix their incompetence, unfortunately they couldn't undo the stress, grief and hardship it caused us. read more

I have an Auto Loan with St Mary's out of Manchester. I live in Maine. I've had my loan since the end of 2014. They have been ok, for the most part, except I received a notice that one of my payments was late, yet I had already made the payment. To ensure everything was ok on their end, I placed a call and spoke to a very rude person. Basically told me it was my fault that the payment processing got held up between my Maine checking account bank (which has free bill pay, so I always use it to avoid fees/sending checks) and St Mary's. I get that things happen and I likely should have gone in to my bank sooner to schedule my payment, but they were going to assess a fee until I told them I had screenshots of my banking transaction with the date to prove my case. Moving forward, I haven't had any issues, I've never missed a payment, etc. Last month I missed a call from them because I was in a work meeting. My father frantically starts tying to get a hold of me, telling me I need to contact the back. He is a co-signer in my loan as I got a better deal at the dealership with various discounts he qualified for. Talk about embarrassing...yes, he's a co-signed and obviously if there's something going on it's only legal to contact him, however they didn't even give me time to call them back first! He was under the impression I had missed two months of payments, which sent me into a spiral. I went in to my online banking with my bank and confirmed I hadn't missed any payments. After a ton of phone tag, I did speak to a pleasant person in the collections department (hearing that title is not exactly friendly, though!). She said they were just checking in when I'd be making my monthly car payment and that she had no idea why my father thought I was two months behind. Anyway, I told her I had scheduled a payment that same day as I was speaking to her and that it should go through the following day. All was good... Until today. I get a call from collections. I answered. "Just looking for your payment. When will that be made?" Tomorrow. "How will it be made?" Uhhh, the way I always have, nothing has changed with that. "Ok, we will be on the lookout for that." Now, I get that my actual payment due date is a bit earlier in he month HOWEVER you do legally have the right to pay after that, with the risk of an added fee being placed on your loan, and a payment must be at least 30 days late for them to take any action/report to credit bureaus. I've always paid my payments and pay a little extra when I'm able. I don't even have a large balance left to pay off--thankfully, as this experience has left a sour taste for me. read more

I have an auto loan with St. Mary's and they make it nearly impossible to make payments. First, their website is terrible, most of their plug ins only work in Internet Explorer (let that sink in for a second) and you can't actually pay you bill when signing into your account the normal way, you have to go to another tab altogether and sign in again, it's like they have multiple websites within their sites and none of them talk to each other. Also, it's not Mobil friendly, which is just annoying. Secondly, once you actually get to where you would pay your bill you see that there is a $10 fee per transaction online. $10 is ridiculous for doing NOTHING. I called to see if I could figure out why it was so high and they said they had the third party who processes their online payments. I'm sorry, but it's 2015, you are a bank, your sole purpose is processing payments, if you do not have the ability to do that yourselves then you have no business handling other people's money. After the woman (who was very snippy with me I might add) told me she could process a check over the phone for $5, I told her I'd just drive down the the post office and put the check in the mail, because quite frankly I don't see all of these fees being justified. Everything was fine until a week later and that check wasn't cashed, it appears to have gotten lost in the mail so I now have to pay a late fee for my loan payment and a stop payment fee on the check I wrote, all of which could have been avoided if this sorry excuse for a bank would join the 21st century. read more

Really have a hard time relating to any negative comments about St Marys Credit Union. I have been a member for over 35 years and the service has been excellent. I have had several cars loans and currently have three accounts. I use the DW Highway beach mostly and have never had a wait or an issue. I was compelled to write because I thought I had a serious problem with an online account. I called the 888# and within 60 seconds was speaking to a live person!!!! It was insane. Laurie carlow was the associate and with a great attitude resolved the problem within minutes. It was her prompt and professional actions that made me write this review. If you have a mortgage with StMarys, this is a word of warning. While the mortgage process and monthly payments goes reasonably well, their software is questionable. Additional payments applied to the mortgage principle may not occur as you specify. Other than checking individual payments, there is no confirmation of your selection. What happens is the payment is applied to the status of 'unknown', not the principle amount. There does not appear to have monetary ramifications, however the number of anticipated monthly payments may be extended. This 'bug' was reported on 8/3/2021, so it might be addressed in the near future. I would encourage all mortgage holders to carefully check principle payments that have occurred in the recent past. read more

Decided to drive to the mcgregor street location where I got to wait outside for over an hour because I didn't have an appointment. Finally someone came out and told me the docs aren't ready. After telling them to withdraw my application they said they can be ready in an hour after waiting an entire hour for an answer. Worst communication I have ever experienced. read more

I've been with St. Mary's Credit Union...the first in the United States they've always been proud to say...for many years. Since 1993 in fact. When they were simply a Credit Union they were great. At least I thought so. However, since my banking needs have become more involved than just needing a checking and savings account AND add in the fact they now are considered a BANK and not merely a Credit Union...St. Mary's has changed for the worst. It used to be I wouldn't have a negative thing to say about them. That has changed immensely. They do not resolve issues correctly. They do not set up new accounts correctly...resulting in my losing out on interest. They have "lost" one of my accounts and cannot seem to admit it's missing...along with the cash the account held!!! Weeks later, still not corrected or resolved. Now, I'm in the middle of fighting for my husband's life with a brain tumor and the accounts' issues are the last thing on my mind. They aren't proactive with contacting me back so the issues remain and I'm frustrating with them beyond belief. We WILL be taking our business elsewhere as soon as I have a moment to research and choose another bank or credit union. Lastly, our home mortgage we took out with St. Mary's in January of 2015 had been taken out of our checking account twice per month to generate an extra mortgage payment by the end of each year. Auto payments were set up and yet during the second year they changed it to one payment per month without notice or explanation. We missed making our all important extra payment (set up to pay our mortgage down faster) and all they had to say is that they don't do two payments per month any longer and we had no recourse to change it. It is more involved with how the event occurred but that is it in a nutshell. No apology for not notifying us, no other options given and worst of all...when we went into the bank at the end of the following year and made an additional payment on our own...they lowered our auto payment during that year so less money got paid...thus eliminating our extra payment we had made...further eliminating our efforts to pay down our mortgage earlier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm done with this BANK. You act corporate after many years of being good to your members...you now lose members. I absolutely am disgusted by their very CORPORATE ATTITUDES now!! read more

This company is just unbelievable as it is so poorly run. We sold a house last year and sadly they were the purchaser's bank. I have never worked with a banking institution that seems completely unable to accomplish any task related to it's sole purpose. They didn't have the right forms, were confused, had continual communication problems with us, gave us WRONG information and in sum, WAS THE MOST POORLY RUN BANK I have ever worked with. At all levels, attorneys, administrative staff, sending wrong forms.
