Crema Catalana was absolutely delicious! The lady was extremely kind and the atmosphere was very traditional. You can see and taste the tradition of this 150+ year old establishment. The Crema Catalana tastes not too sweet and perfectly chilled, cold cream with warm, recently caramelized crunchy sugar bark on top. First one I've had so nothing to compare to but I like it a lot! Las Ramblas can be tiring and you may want something to pick you up mid-day or as the sun goes down. May I suggest Granja Viader, they've been around for over 150 years, mind boggling, I know!! We came here twice (similar to Cuitat Comtal) because we loved it so much the first time. By the way, don't go for the free churros at your hotel, save your calories for coming here because you won't be disappointed. The churros were crisp and nice and hot. This was perfect with our hot chocolate with whipped cream. I'd skip the lady fingers (Melindros cookies), they were fine but didn't strike me as being special. Now the Crema de Catalana was spectacular, with that hard top shell of carmelized sugar and the not too sweet cream underneath. The flan with whipped cream was very good too, so I would have that as well. I love the ambiance and the feeling of tradition and greatness whilst eating here. I came here this morning at 10:00, and it was already busy. Definitely a tourist spot. We didn't have to wait for a table, and the service was good. Different servers checked in on us a few times to see if we were ready to order. We ordered black coffee, Majorcan milk, crema catalana, and mata with honey and walnuts. Super busy place, staff was very friendly, and the lighting made the place look very cozy. we ordered the creme brûlée, the chocolate and the churros, then a foie gras cheese toast. The chocolate is very rich, and kinda bitter comparing to the ones we had in other places, but they put a ton of sugar on their churros, so it balances out, only when u drink the chocolate by itself, it's not that good, prob the one with whipped cream on top is better. Decided to stop in after eating at la boquería as I was originally looking to get some coffee. Happy to have found this place as it is just off Las Ramblas and was not too crowded when I got there in the morning. The crema catalana tasted just like a big creme brûlée and I liked the fact that it had a nice spice/cinnamon kind of taste in there. This cafe was supposed to close at 10pm - we came by around 9:25pm and were told they were closing in around 20 minutes. It was weird because at 30 minutes before closing, the back kitchen was being cleaned up and they had shut down half of the tables. My coffee was average, standard. Not sure if they fried them fresh (doubt it) or more likely just reheated some older churros made earlier in the day since they were getting ready to close. The upside: places like this with crowds in and out all day churn out the chocolate and churros all day long. So you know what you're getting is FRESH! And while these were definitely fresh items, they weren't the best we'd had on our trip. We enjoyed them, yes, but we had some seriously delectable hot chocolate in Madrid. Not to mention La Ventana in the Gothic Quarter. Oh my. The downside: this place isn't far from La Rambla, one of the largest tourist spots in Barcelona. So, you'll get loads of tourists here. Me encanta! I read about this classic churreria on AFAR so when I found myself back in Barcelona a few months ago I decided to check it out. The place is clearly a decades old favorite of locals as would be evident if you stop by during breakfast hours. I came twice during my last trip, once on my own and the second time with my boyfriend when he arrived a couple days later.
