There are stacks all over the store of receivers, tuners, turntables, and speakers. The owner, Moses, was super friendly. He was helping some other folks when we went in, so after he was done with them I asked him for his advice. I didn't realize that meant he would spend almost two hours with me, showing me what equipment he had. He really seems to know his stock back and forth, pulling out names of speakers that were under stacks and insisting that he'd love to let me hear them if I wanted. He told me about the speaker designers, the characteristics of each brand, and what kind of sounds would be emphasized with each. He insisted that every piece of equipment was fully checked when he brought it in He laid out all my options, within my price range, for the styles of music I listen to, and preferred making me listen to different speaker combinations rather than describing them to me. This took some time to attach and detach each set from the receiver, but I really did learn a lot about what the different speakers sounded like, and which brands have similar profiles. Ultimately, I was happy to have a guide that was patient. I didn't anticipate spending so much time to do so, but I don't regret it at all, since it is an investment. I found a set of speakers that I love (after listening to about 10 different sets) that should be perfect for what I need. Ultimately, I think I maybe paid a higher price than I would have gotten on ebay or craigslist for my speakers, but Moses was ridiculously helpful and patient with me and was happy to give me the information I needed. I'm also sure that the speakers are in good working condition - which is worth a lot as well. I don't know about the repair aspect of his shop, but if you want to buy some modern or vintage equipment, Moses can hook you up.

I stopped at this one on Valentine's Day for the first time on my way up north! Goodwill Commerce (Walled Lake) store is fully stocked with treasures. My favorite sections are the books because I can always find a great hardcover book to add to my collection. The pricing of hardcover books are in many cases 90% off the retail value of the books. The Goodwill staff are always happy to serve with a smile. My only regret is I was short on time and didn't get to do my usual circuit around their store. I'll be back!

I like how clothing is organized by category size and then color (versus many thrift stores that do all same color regardless of size). It's easier to find stuff this way. Most of the staff is friendly. And on regular days store is well run. When they do flash sales and advertised sales, they run out of carts and lines to check out are long. Big downside to the 50% off days. The biggest gripe is prices are sometimes high. I've found decent deals here too but some items will be marked higher than they should be in my opinion, especially in the home goods area. But also if clothing is NWT, even if from target or Walmart or tjmaxx, price may be marked up close to retail. That said, it's pricing is better than the Salvation Army nearby and usually better than valueworld. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

This tiny little shop (and I mean TINY) was abuzz with customers jockeying around trying to look at the merchandise. It was so crowded, it was practically impossible. At first, I thought the place was packed. In truth, there were probably only six people inside, but it was at least four too many. This store is small! There's really only room for two shoppers at most during any given moment. It's a shame because the shop is cute. They sell a lot of "upcycled" and DIY steampunk creations. If you know anything about steampunk style, you realize the amount of ingenuity, craftsmanship and creativity necessary to bang this stuff out and, furthermore, you can appreciate it for being art. The stuff is lovely, unusual and well-crafted- and highly breakable. Honestly, I didn't feel terribly comfortable navigating all of that fragile gear and I'm tiny. What the heck would one do if they weren't so small? My 6"4 husband felt compelled to wait it out on the sidewalk while I was shopping. That was probably a good idea. He felt claustrophobia coming on, anyway, and he isn't claustrophobic in the least bit (until he set foot in this store, so there's that). I was so afraid of accidentally knocking something over that it spoiled the mood to shop. I was interested in a piece of two because I like steampunk design and the small sculptures/art, tables, lamps and other decorative pieces looked really interesting, but it was impossible to turn around. They simply had too much stock on the floor and not enough room to walk, let alone browse. I found that to be a turnoff. I couldn't even bend over or turn around very well to look for the price tag on a side table that I liked. I think think the store could be better served if they removed just a tad bit of merchandise off the floor, making a little leg room instead of trying to capitalize on their limited space by stocking the place to the brim. It was simply too tight and not at all inviting. It's just simply not pleasant to shop that way. If I'm walking around a crowded estate sale with everything strewn all over the place, that's one thing. This is different. If the management had bothered to remove just one side table toppling over with additional merchandise from the sales floor, it might have made all the difference. As for customer service, there really was none of which to speak. The lady behind the counter seemed disinterested in the customers and ignored two people attempting to grab her attention. I watched them leave in disgust. I was tempted to ask her for the price of that little table that I thought was so adorable, but she didn't seem approachable, so I didn't bother. Perhaps she was overwhelmed by how crowded the store was with only half a dozen people shopping at any given moment? The few prices I could find seemed a bit on the higher end, but this was downtown Holly and the "upcycled" steampunk gear could be considered art, so it didn't seem out of line with my expectations. I would probably give this place another shot, but it would have to be pretty much devoid of other shoppers in order to have a better shopping experience next time.

BUYER BEWARE! This business sells fraudulent products. My wife purchased gemstones from them via an…read moreonline auction (they sell on Proxibid.com). The stones each had specific descriptions noting their color, weight, identification and origin, sometimes noting where they were mined. We paid for paraiba tourmaline and received fluorite. The beryl was actually citrine. The "natural pink sapphire" was lab created. The bright blue sapphires were so dark they were black and worthless. Dark citrines were actually nearly colorless (and worthless). Kunzite was substituted with amethyst. Goshenite was white topaz. Blue pallasite stones were actually pale aquamarine. Yellow pallasite and tourmaline were actually citrine. Not one lot we received was what we paid for. Some of the stones were not even the ones pictured on the auction, as could be clearly seen with differences in the cut of the stones in the pictures versus what we received. To add insult to injury, items purchased on December 20th were not received until January 14th. She called to report the problem and received authorization to return. The items where shipped back on January 17th. It is now February 15th and we still do not have a refund. The owner gave her the runaround. When we complained about shipping, he said normally he did all the billing and shipping but he was sick so it was delayed until his son could do it. When I called to complain about the quality, he said he didn't do any of that, his son was the gemologist and I'd have to talk to him. When I called again, he said his son handled refunds and was out of town. The next call, he said they didn't receive all the stones back and we'd have to talk to the gemologist. I don't know if there really is a son involved, but if so, he is either the worst graduate gemologist known to man, or he is purposefully pawning off bad stones on unsuspecting buyers. My wife bought the stones to use in vintage jewelry settings she sells online. She knows her way around gemstones and has taken courses from GIA, the authority on gemstones in this country. It took her about 30 seconds to spot the issues. She then took the stones to a local, reputable jewelry store and spoke to their graduate GIA gemologist. That person confirmed that the stones were not as they were advertised and sold as. It's now been nearly two months since the original purchase and D&D Wilson is still selling fraudulent items on Proxibid and likely other sites. They are scamming people who think they are buying investment quality stones (a phrase they use in the descriptions). So many people have been scammed and don't even know it yet. Whatever you do, DON'T buy from these guys.
