The first thing that caught our dirt Filled eyes was the unique candy selection on the wall. Stuff I have not seen since I was a child.: (Not that I am old). Next my eyes focused on the digital menu board that displayed the plethora of scrumptious choices of their homemade ice cream. Halfway through the menu a little bit of drool was dripping on the floor from my Saliva glands making my mouth water profusely. So many delicious choices, I had to find out what was the biggest and baddest of their selections. It turns out to be the banana split served in a tub. This 55 gallon drum look alike was filled with bananas, three different kinds of ice cream, chocolate syrup,other toppings, whip cream and cherry! Oh my goodness..... I think my head is going to explode.... ....good thing I am wearing a motorcycle helmet. That mess would not be pretty in such a beautiful store. After Ripping my wallet from my pants, I cheerfully paid then rushed to Carry the payload of ice cream out to the picnic tables across the street by the stream. After enjoying the beautiful view of the stream and the babbling brook, I Wielded a plastic spoon like a samurai wields his sword, slicing into the frozen cream with expert precision. The whip cream, chocolate and flavored ice cream I had ordered all culminated in an explosion of flavors in my mouth. I think I let out a little scream of ecstasy as it slid down my throat. There is nothing like homemade ice cream to get you excited for the next bite. I probably gained 2 pounds from eating this enormous treat that was Prepared with love. But it's worth every pound I might gain. Shortly thereafter it was time to get back on the motorcycle and ride a few more mountain tops. The sun was warm and starting to get an orange tint as it was contemplating setting in a couple hours. The warm wind was blowing the leaves ever so slightly, the Mountain tops were screaming my name like a lost child screams for their parents at the mall. What a great day, what a great ice cream store, what a place to Stop!

One thing that immediately stood out was how confusing the ordering process was. Instead, the family in front of us was handed a separate paper menu from inside. We had no idea that was how ordering worked, so I had to excuse myself past the people in line just to ask for one. It would have been much more customer-friendly if menus were readily available or if there was a sign letting customers know to ask for one. I was very disappointed with my visit. I ordered a hard vanilla ice cream sundae with fudge, peanut butter, and marshmallow, and it was nowhere near worth the $9 I paid. The vanilla ice cream tasted freezer-burned, with a dry, icy texture and a noticeable "crunch" that wasn't from nuts or any toppings, but from the ice crystals in the ice cream itself. It had a stale taste, and the texture made it seem like it had been sitting in the freezer too long. On top of that, there were barely any toppings. The fudge, peanut butter, and marshmallow were so sparse that I honestly wouldn't even consider it a real sundae. For the price, I expected fresh ice cream and generous toppings. Instead, I got what felt like a cup of old ice cream with just a small amount of topping. I don't mind paying premium prices when the quality matches, but this experience was very disappointing, and I wouldn't order it again. Also, there was an older gentleman wearing suspenders who appeared to be the owner or manager. While I was waiting for my order, I watched him speaking to the young employees in a way that came across as rude and dismissive. I obviously don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but from a customer's perspective it was uncomfortable to watch and created an unwelcoming atmosphere. The way employees are treated says a lot about a business, and unfortunately it left a negative impression on me.

Woody's Ice Cream Place is a great place to stop for a good variety of ice cream treats…read more Located in a small shopping plaza in Herkimer, this family owned & operated landmark offers over 20 flavors of Turkey Hill hard ice cream and also Upstate Farms soft serve ice cream, serving up cones, cups, sundaes, shakes, malts, freezes, and other cold treats including the Boston shake, which is part shake on the bottom and ice cream sundae on top. The place has an inside counter area with indoor seating with air conditioned comfort. There's also an outside order window and a few purple picnic tables in front (no smoking is allowed in front of the shop, so others can enjoy their ice cream. This is a great rule). I stopped here recently on a very hot Saturday night. Since just ate dinner at a nearby restaurant, I decided to order my dessert at Woody's. I got a double scoop of Colombian Coffee hard ice cream cone, which came out to about $3 and change. The ice cream cone was pretty big and a very refreshing treat for dessert. I will definitely have to return to Woody's for a Boston shake on my next visit to Herkimer. CASH ONLY
