Grant Automotive is one of the few car shops that genuinely cares about helping their customers. My Jeep Wrangler had been overheating, and when I tried explaining the issue to other shops, most of them just looked at me like I was crazy or told me to go somewhere else without even trying to investigate the problem. It was incredibly frustrating. When I brought it to Grant Automotive, Ryan actually took the time to listen. Even though I was pretty frustrated at that point, Ryan wanted to figure out what was going on instead of brushing me off. He even invited me to ride along with them so they could witness the issue themselves. He absolutely didn't have to do that, but the fact that he did shows how much they're willing to go the extra mile for his customers. After taking a closer look, we realized the problem was actually simple -- the front grill had small vent covers that were restricting airflow. Once we removed them, the overheating problem was completely solved. What really stood out to me was their willingness to take the time, problem-solve, and treat me with respect when other shops wouldn't even try. You can tell they truly care about their customers and about doing the job right. After a couple of trips to diagnose a loose steering issue, as well as a significant part replacement that I did myself, I was told the issue was a repair I made years before. This did not make sense to me since there have been zero issues until now. Steering made worse, in a different way, after the new part went in. I was told to retorque steering parts from years ago....(The work to do this is huge just to get to those parts) Brought it home and diagnosed the new steering problem (wheels would not center after turning) myself and subsequently repaired it via tweak to the preload setting on the new gear. This is something they could have found a lot faster than I. Said, do your research before going to Grant so that you are armed with knowledge to help direct them to a proper repair. Use your new knowledge to keep from getting a repair you may not need. Also, the adjustment I made on the new gear could have been done on the old gear and probably fixed the loose steering issue. They are pleasant and nice to work with. Just be advised. And, I fine paying for the diagnostic fee. This involves real work from the techs and they should be paid for that service! read more

I have never had them suggest an unnecessary repair, and have actually been told that while something (e.g. a timing cover leak) will probably need attention in the future, but could wait for now. I took my vehicle to them for a repair and they wanted to charge $10,000 for new engine replacement. Got 2 more opinions and they did not agree that my vehicle needed new engine! We read all the good reviews and decided to give Grant a try instead of the dealer, but really wish we would have gone to the dealer instead. We didn't realize that we were going to get charged a 2 hr diagnostics fee of $130 whether we had the work done or not. Normally repair shops don't charge the diagnostics if you have it repaired there. Not here. Our $580 repair that we approved was over $700 when we picked it up. We asked them about the extra 2 hours and the explanation was that they checked everything, not just what we asked about. Huh? We presented a coupon and they wouldn't take it because it wasn't presented when we dropped it off, telling us they'd have to redo the paperwork! Really nickle and dime in their favor of course. read more

I've never felt so cheated in my life. My car's engine started overheating while near Conifer and my dad told me to have it towed to Grant Automotive since they used to bring their cars there when they lived in the area. My car is a 2000 model so yes, it's old. But when we were told they could make some fixes that would keep it running another 3,000 to 30,000 miles, my dad and I trusted Grant Automotive and paid them just under $600 for the repairs. Well, 200 miles and 2 weeks later, my car is worse than it was before bringing it in and I'm officially without a car (and $600.) Grant Automotive has nothing helpful to say about this. read more

I had great experiences with Grant since Ben opened their doors until now. My latest experience dealing with Ben and Marty was terrible. I took my car to them to have the battery tested in December and Ben said I needed a new battery within the month for $130. I told them I'd have to do that in a week or so when I had the money and I'd just have them replace it then. Later i found a cheaper battery option for $110, but they said I didn't need one when tested. Then I never had a problem with the battery. Two months after that I took the car into Ben Grant for an oil change and they were trying to bill me for a battery. I told them I never had a battery put in and Ben came over to talk to me about it. He checked the battery in the car and said it looks like one they would have put in, but he'd give it to me for free since I didn't authorize it. I wasn't actually confident this was true, but thanked him and left. The whole interaction was strange and surprising. After that visit the car mysteriously started needing a jump start every few days and then daily. During this time I had the battery tested in northern Colorado (which turned up fine each time) and even had to have it towed the day of my appointment with Grant Auto to another mechanic in boulder who couldn't figure out the problem, but was able to get it jump started so I could take it to Grant Auto as planned. When I arrived at Grant Auto Marty checked it out right away and came back to say it was a bad battery that would now cost $150 to replace. I responded in question as to why it was marked up now and that I would just take it to WalMart if it's going to be an even higher price. I also asked why didn't it show up as a bad battery for the other tests? He said okay to not changing the battery and then tried to charge me $20 for the battery check without answering my questions. He said he'd go get Ben for me to talk to. Then there was a bunch of whispering and Ben apparently refused to come out. At that point I was frustrated and felt manipulated with the whole situation. Not to mention the entire staff treating me like I was trying to scam them. I questioned the entire situation and was told to find someone else to service my car. I just hope my mother and 3 sisters don't encounter a similar situation with him. I was totally surprised and confused by the situation. Apparently, Marty is well known for being difficult to deal with among my sisters and being snotty to other customers. This is my first interaction with him. We've never had an experience with Ben like this. I am so surprised by this and I hope the problem really is just my battery. What a pain! read more

I have been taking my vehicles to Grant for service for about 7 years and I have never been disappointed. Services ranged from routine maintenance (oil changes, brake pad replacements, alignments, tire rotations) to major repairs (timing belt, exhaust manifold, transmission). They are very good at troubleshooting problems, providing detailed quotes, meeting deadlines and conducting necessary repairs. The staff are always friendly and anxious to take care of my needs, and they're very good at communicating progress. I was especially happy with some recent service I received at Grant. I had a sensor that went bad which kept illuminating my check-engine light and making my car run a little sluggish. Unfortunately, the sensors had a manufacturing defect and the mechanic had to replace the part 6 times. But, they never charged me a dime for their labor and the part was under warranty. My car has been running great and I'm really happy that I have a local mechanic that I can trust. read more

So I recently put gas in my diesel truck...I know...it was stupid. I was right near the Ford dealership off of 6th in Lakewood. They quoted me $10,000 to fix it. I called Grant after being referred to them multiple times and they got me in the same day and worked from the least invasive and expensive approach first. They predicted we could get it fixed by just flushing the system and changing a couple filters and that the truck should be good to go. THEY WERE RIGHT. It was less than $700 and my truck has been perfect since. So grateful they did their due-diligence and that they didn't try to take advantage of me!! After leaving my Jeep nearly 2 weeks for an oil change, master cylinder, and adjusting the carb choke, whitch is still not right? I am afraid to take it back as the might have it a long while? Also installed new fuel pump. The whole bill was just short of $900!! Labor is way too expensive there and parts are beyond way too HIGH!! Way too expensive for me!! Avoid this place! They tried to rip off my 72 year old mother... She took her car in for an oil change. 1) They told her that she needed new brakes on all four wheels and that there was nothing left of the pads and that she'd probably have to have new rotors even. She took it somewhere else to have it looked at, and the front brakes were like new, and the back brakes were about 50% worn. So they lied to her telling her what she needed. 2) They tightened the wheel nuts so tightly, that the other place had to use a 4' crow bar to get them off. 3) They left the oil filter loose, so that the car was dripping oil. Anyone who tries to take advantage of a 72 year old woman is the low end of the ethics spectrum! read more

I take my vehicle in, cringing at the thought of what it is going to cost me and every time I go to Grant I save every time over writes from other shops and dealerships. In my experience this usually means that the service is a little lackluster as well but not at Grant. They will not upsell you services that are not necessary. Their staff from the front desk through the sales/service guys and back into the shop are helpful, courteous, thorough, and thoughtful. I will not take my vehicle anywhere else and I constantly encourage my friends to make them the first call as well.
