Absurdly overpriced and dishonest. Called one other shop and they quoted me $900 for the same repairs that this place said would cost $2,200+. They also said that the cost of the $95 mandated inspection would go toward future work if I elected to have it performed. I found out that was false upon inquiring about said future work after making previous repairs. I would be a fool to pay these sharks for the displeasure of their business. If you want to overcharge for your services, that's a business decision. But at least stand behind your policies. read more

My heat wasn't working during the coldest week we've had here in Denver recently. They were able to identify multiple points in my coolant and heating system which were compromised and looked up the replacement parts necessary through the dealer. They provided diagram print outs of the issue and walked me through the work that needed to be done. I read reviews ahead of time and although the general theme was that they were very nice but also overpriced and didn't perform maintenance in a timely manner, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and try them out. My car had been idling rough and the check engine light had come on. I had replaced the mass airflow sensor and it was doing better but a few days later the engine light came back on and it was throwing a code related to the engine. I decided to bring it in for an 8 AM appointment on a Monday so a professional could look at it, and I gave them all of the information I had including things that had been repaired such as the mass air flow sensor, spark plugs, and air filters, as well as the details of the code I was getting. They said they would diagnose and contact me with a quote, but by 1 PM I still hadn't heard anything. When I called around 2 PM they said they weren't done with the diagnoses and would call me back which they did an hour later with a quote of ~$700 to replace the purge valve ($30 part right on top of engine that only requires un-attaching 2-3 clip hoses and replacing), mass air flow sensor ($30-$50 and easy to do by just unscrewing 3 screws and replacing), and an oil change. Knowing I could do all of this myself for just the cost of parts, I decided not to have them do the work. The cost for the diagnoses was ~$120. The employees I interacted with were all very nice and professional but I do wish they were more reasonable with their prices and more straight forward about a timeline to the best of their knowledge. I would recommend always checking prices after getting a quote from any auto repair place because some things are so easy to do yourself and you can save so much money and be better able to care for your vehicle. read more

I had recently replaced one serpentine belt and now the other belt needed to be replaced. Since I also needed a new oil pan gasket, it seemed wise to have them replace that belt at the same time. The mechanic called me before starting work and said I needed to replace both serpentine belts. I explained I recently replaced one already, but he said it looked frayed and that I should go ahead and replace them both. That seemed weird to me since I had replaced the one not 4 weeks prior, but I took his word for it. I asked to keep the old one so that I could take it back to the auto parts store and try for a refund since it was brand new and already needing to be replaced. When I got the "frayed" belt back, I was shocked to find that it was in perfect condition (not frayed, as you can see in the picture). I went back to West Highlands to ask why I had been told the first belt needed replacing. They responded that they would rather just put on their own belts so that they are under warranty for a year. I was never asked nor was I told this was a "preference" of theirs. I took the mechanic's word for it, and was told I needed something that I didn't. After arguing this with them, I still received no refund. *** On 12/3, I was offered a full refund for the belt they had replaced in response to this Yelp review. I plan on taking them up on it, and even added a few stars to my rating for their willingness to respond and rectify the situation. read more

This garage is awesome. I've been having an issue with my Xterra where the engine will just shut down after driving for a while when in idle. It was an intermittent issue and there was no real pattern leading up to this happening. There is no check engine light and it's was extra weird because the electrical would stay on. West Highlands could easily have told me it was a bagillion different sensors that needed replaced and I would have just told them to do it. Not West Highlands. They actually put in the effort to recreate the issue (took them 2 days this most recent time) before they would charge me for any work on the car. Took my car in to get Alignment done and they had a great price on that service. However, they were unable to complete it because according to them my tie rod ends were "seized up." So instead they charged me 50 bucks for no alignment performed and quoted me $765.76 to replace them. This didn't sound right to me so I took it to my mechanic who does everything but alignment and he put it up on the rack and torched my tie rods and applied some anti seize lubricant in a matter of 5 minutes. After that I took it to Big O Tires and they performed my alignment no problem. When I told them about West Highlands Auto saying they were "seized up," and trying to charge me 700+ they said it's standard operating procedure for them to torch the tie rods for free. After my alignment was completed from Big O they told me the back alignment was still significantly off despite West Highland Auto claiming to have performed it successfully just 3 days prior. When I called West Highlands Auto Repair for a copy of my alignment paperwork James said he will email it to me and even confirmed my email address. Still waiting for that email... read more

I came in for a tire rotation, given the recent snow. I gave them a call yesterday and asked if they do tire rotations, and Alex told me how much it would be ($23) without me asking. They were able to get me in this morning. Since I'd be walking to drop off and pick up my car, I asked how long it would take (in case I could just wait around). He told me it would depend on when the oil change appts that morning would pick their cars up, but roughly it would take 2-3 hrs, which seems reasonable. This morning 30 min before my drop off time, he gave me a call and told me he was unexpectedly 1 technician short so it may take more than the 2-3 hr window he had estimated for me previously and offered for me to change my appt if I'd like. I went ahead with it anyway, and it took less than 4 hrs - no big deal! I was surprised when I paid that the total Alex quoted me was all inclusive (no additional fees). We brought our car to West Highlands auto repair to replace the differential and they charged me thousands and did a botched install. The BRAND NEW differential that they installed blew up on the highway almost causing a wreck and completely burning out an additional brand new unit I had just spent thousands on. I spent over $5000 and now all of that money is a loss and all of those repaired items now need to be replaced. I tried to talk to the owner and he was apathetic and quickly resorting to it not being his fault - and dismissed the situation. The reputable mechanic we brought it to afterwards clearly stated it was 100% their fault. We now have a lawyer involved to rectify the situation with West Highlands Auto Repair. It is such a mess. I normally don't leave reviews but felt others might want to know that I've been to this place (location off 29th) about 5 times and as nice as they are, they don't perform their job to the best of their abilities. I've had my ac fixed (later had to go back and get it fixed again a few months later and it wasn't covered by any warranty because they didn't look for this problem the first time around fixing it). More recently I got my brakes worked on and let them know about a leak I noticed, after the visit they said everything was good as new and wouldn't need to come back until I needed an oil change. Flashforward a little over a month and my car leak is worse than before and my check engine light is on. I called them and they never looked at the leak when I took it in. I would not take your car here unless you're ready to waste your time like me. read more

I was in Denver, CO visiting a friend (mid August 2018) when my radiator started leaking. I came to West Highlands Auto Repair on a Thursday morning and my car was repaired by the following Friday morning. I even received a text saying that my car was ready to be picked up. I ended up needing to have my radiator replaced on a 2000 Chrysler Voyager van. I have since driven my mini van all the way back to my home in NYC (1,785.5 mi). Everything is still working great. I believe it was James and Adrian who helped me at the front desk. They were both great and the service was impeccable. I went here on a recommendation from Joe over at Arnold's Transmission and Gear because he was full and I needed to get my truck in immediately. The crew at West Highlands Auto was very helpful, concise, and transparent. The work was done very well and at a reasonable price. One suggestion they made was a new battery because mine wasn't cranking as high as it should be. I told them I'd rather save the labor and replace it on my own and they didn't give me any hassles. I was actually given recommendations for a battery along with specs. There was also an easy repair I could make on my own to the engine but the guys took off the labor and some of the cost of the part so they could make sure my vehicle was in good order so they could complete the warranty. I'm left with mixed feelings about my experience with this shop. Their work on what I knew was broken seemed good, but their recommendations on things they "found" seem questionable. Scheduling was quick and easy, and communication throughout the process was above average for an auto shop. They recommended replacing a few other parts in the general proximity of the area they were working on, which seemed reasonable, so I authorized the additional work. That system is working beautifully now. My complaint comes from the recommendations printed on the sheet when I picked it up. 1. They recommended new wiper blades, when we'd just changed them under a month beforehand, and they worked just fine when I tried them upon pickup. 2. They recommended a $294.86 power steering hose seal kit. Funny thing is that we just spent $1500 replacing all our power steering components at the Toyota dealership a mere 4 months before. Concerned that the job had failed, I spent a hour at the dealership and the price of a rental car getting everything checked out today, only to be told there was a small amount of clearly old, fully dried fluid visible from before the repair, and the system was in complete working order. 3. Their other recommendation was regarding a valve cover gasket leaking, a $442.23 repair, which we actually had done 2 years ago. At this point, I'm not going to go back and harass those mechanics, as I'm not sure I can trust the opinion of WHAR. So, I guess my verdict is that if you know what needs to be fixed on your car, they do good work at a reasonable price and in a timely manner. However, I'd take their suggested services with a grain of salt. As a female with limited auto knowledge, I need a mechanic I can fully trust to keep me safe in my vehicle and to not take advantage of me. I am afraid this is not the place for me. read more

Smoke coming out of the ignition is never a good sign...called around, and was referred to West Highlands (by the other amazingly-reviewed shop on here) as I was told they're "great" with Nissans. I needed a tow there, and they immediately arranged someone to tow my truck for a reasonable $75...the guy was at my house within 20 minutes. I told James (front desk) what was wrong over the phone, and they said they'd figure it out and let me know what's wrong...left it up to fate and honesty to not rack up a ridiculous repair cost. Not only were they surprisingly affordable, they offered to file a warranty claim for me, had great communication throughout the process, and ended up charging me for only 2 hours of work for diagnosing and completely rewiring my ignition (previous owner installed a POS alarm system). Their actual hourly rate is a bit high, but they strike me as honest and don't over-charge for random fees and bogus hours. Highly recommended and would use them again. read more

Although my car repairs ended up costing far more than I imagined- they worked with me to find ways to reduce the overall cost and took it upon them selves to fix additional technical problems eating the labor and parts costs- what mechanics would do that? James has wonderful customer service skills, is kind, professional and really is dedicated to leaving the customer happy. He's a really nice guy. Originally I took my car to one of their local competitors and my experience was soooooo awful. After my car sat at their shop for 3 weeks I finally got it towed to West Highlands Auto and began the whole process again. I'll leave a review for this other mechanic shortly. Heard they were good from the net ..so i went to them with a interior door handle fixer upper ..went early on a friday after the owner Oz quoted me 115 on a price..so i go and they look at it saying they can fix it but gotta order the part and my car WOULD be ready monday ...so thy said they would charge to put my door panel back on to drive over the weekend and for me to bring it back on monday and charge to take it off ..so i decided to leave my car (im not stupid to pay for what they asked) ..so monday comes and they call me saying the part they ordered was wrong and the part they needed would be there tuesday ..but if i want once again they would charge to put on and off the panel again...so AGAIN i leave my only transportation there ..oh ya the guy james or whatever said they would give me $$ to help with my ubers or whatever ..so tuesday finally i get to pick up my car and i guess i never got reimbursed for nothing and also paid 165 with NO discount for keeping my car past the initial day they said ....soooo yup not again... read more

This is a family owned shop that really cares! I brought in a very old vehicle and they did their best to make that thing run as good as new. And it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. They looked up what they could do as far as getting parts was concerned, then gave me many options and got the truck repaired and pretty short order. They give you a full explanation is what's wrong and how it will be fixed and how much it'll cost and once you just side what you would like them to do, they stick to it and get it done promptly! My truck has needed a lot work, but every time the service at West Highlands Auto Repair has been wonderful, and I've been completely satisfied with all the repairs and the money saved from monthly new car payments. When my truck failed its emissions test this year, they even took it for its retest after installing new catalytic converters, and it passed with flying colors! I visited James and his team again (after three years). Wow... not much has changed. Once again, James and his team provided exceptional customer service and auto service at a fair price. James was upfront on pricing and with what needed to be done. He was also a great communicator. I really appreciate this, as well as his timeliness. What I was most impressed with was that James said he would try to save my brake caliper pins, but that if they were bad I'd need a whole new brake job. At every other mechanic I would have fully expected to be sold a pitch for new brakes. Not so. James was able to save the brakes and saved me a ton of cash. Summary: They quoted me MUCH higher than competitors for a routine part replacement. Went elsewhere. Took my 4Runner w/ the check engine light on to have West Highlands diagnose the problem. Ran the error code and told me that I needed to replace an oxygen sensor. However, they quoted me nearly $800 for the replacement. After some searching online I figured out this was a ridiculous price for O2 sensor replacement. Took it to another shop that replaced it for $80 in labor plus the $150 cost of the part. Never going back to West Highlands. read more

I took my car in to have the front end alignment checked as the car, Honda 2009 Accord, had never had a front end alignment and, after getting new tires, thought the car did not handle as well as it should. I called and spoke to James who set up an appointment for me later that day...I took my car in, explained the situation, and left the car...I have not been to this shop before, so my expectations were mixed... James called me back later, explained that a front end alignment was all that required at that time, and to come get the car..I was very happy that I did not need expensive front end parts and was very pleased with the way the car handled as a result of James and his crew of professionals!
