I am really sorry to do this ... I truly, truly am ... because I hate to besmirch a locally owned business but the prices here are just absolutely fucking bananas! I get that EG is a pretty expensive town ... and normally I don't mind paying a little extra to support a local business but there are bottles of spirits in here that are $20 higher than other liquor stores for the same thing!!! Literallyz I paid $20 more than Haxton's in Warwick for the same item! That is a sort of extreme case ... but on average expect to pay $10 more for any bottle of liquor ... and $4 - $5 more for any 6 pack of craft beer than any other store in the area. Forget about comparing this place to a Total Wine, you can literally save 40% on most items shopping there vs. here. I honestly don't think I've ever seen prices this high on liquor/wine ... Not in midtown Manhattan. Not in my home of West Hollywood, CA. I won't be totally brutish ... they do have a very nicely curated selection of wines and spirits here. You aren't going to find any allocated items here ... No Weller, No Blanton's, No Pappy, etc. but they have a decent selection of bourbon, spirits and a huge amount of pre-mixed cocktails and mixers. They have craft beer ... local and far away brands ... fancy ciders, saki and other interesting but niche selections of expensive single craft bottles. The store is immaculately clean and organized well. It may be the most expensive liquor store I've ever been in but it's also maybe the most well organized. The staff isn't particularly interested in going out of their way to help you. But, if you ask them a question about wines, etc. they will make some good recommendations if they aren't too busy doing something else. I will end by saying that I was in a rush to buy liquor and wine for a dinner party that my house hosts were having. I wasn't looking too carefully at the receipt because I figured everything was just so expensive, it is what it is. However, when I got home, I found out one of the bottles I bought must have been put in the wrong place. They charged me $84 for a bottle that costs $59 anywhere else. It was next to a sign that said $65. For 8 bottles of liquor and wine and a 4-pack of craft beer, I paid more than I did for my first car in 2005. Not even kidding. read more

Wow!! A playground for wine lovers. There was so many awesome sections to check out, I didn't even know where to look. I spent far too much time wandering around because there was so much to check out. I even picked up a few new to me wine varietals based on staff picks with tasty descriptions. I love a staff pick! I also liked how well marked everything was and it's pretty easy to find what you are looking for (or find something new). I also loved how big their chilled section was. Sometimes you run out of time and need something chilled, here you can actually grab something interesting and not just that status quo options. I've been looking for a store where I can find majority of the alcohol my husband and I drink besides the base in Newport and thankfully we walked in here today before going into Daves. The Savory Grape definitely deserves 5 stars. They have an excellent selection of wine, but it's worth noting that their CHILLED selection is huge in comparison to other liquor stores. If I ever need chilled wine in a pinch, I'll go way out of my way to come to The Savory Grape. Also, they have a loyalty program. Every time you spend $650, you get $10 off. Although I wish it was a little bit more lucrative of a prize, it does make a difference. I recently discovered that they have a Wine of the Month club, which I'm excited to try out. There are a few different tiers at different price points which make it a bit more accessible. I'll report back after I've joined & experienced the wine club! Nice store setting. Staff is very rude never greeting customers. Act like it's a bother to ring customers out or answer questions. Lack on knowledge of product. They have one of the best selection I've seen in Rhode Island, especially when it comes to craft beer! They also have some really cool Japense whiskeys and gin that I've tried. The only thing I have a slight problem with is the staff haven't been too friendly or inviting when I've checked out. Coming across The Savory Grape's yelp page I was befuddled as to why it has taken me this long to write a review - so here it goes. I've been shopping at TSG since the Summer of 09 when they were on Main St. in E. Greenwich and they've definitely done just about everything right to cause me to still shop over two years later. The shop is very expansive with a large assortment of wines of every variety (White, Red, Bubbly, Sweet, etc) with a nice knook of various Hard Liquors (some easy to find - some not so easy such as a few single-malts) and 4 doors worth of beer fridge space in the back which is stocked by Serena who does a phenomenal job locating various seasonal brews, etc as well as nice all-year beers as well. The shop is not ordered in the same way as any other wine shop I've been to, rather than separate the wine by specific regions where they originate they organize it by the characteristic of the body (i.e. light, medium, full bodied) and the color - which in my opinion at least is more useful than the traditional regional division. The prices of the wine range from $8 and up with most averaging about $15 I've found - that combined with the fact that the staff are extremely knowledgeable and are more than happy to point you in a direction based on what you may be looking for or recommend you something makes this a mecca for wine in RI. I can recount multiple occasions where the staff have assisted me in every way I could have hoped for in both their knowledge and accommodation from one of the owners, Jessica, helping me select some Beaujolais Nouveau for Thanksgiving to Patrick helping me fine wines that would pair with very specific meals I was planning on cooking and hosting. Not only the staff and selection are top-notch but all this is made even better by free weekly wine tastings twice a week (Fri and Sat). One thing that made TSG my go-to wine shop is the fact that the staff are extremely NOT snobby in the fact that they take the time to explain various things and do not have the rigidity in their perceptions of enjoying wine that I've found at other stores. read more

I live for the Savory Grape. Never in my life have I been to a wine store quite like this; the interior is beautiful, the staff is beyond knowledgeable and friendly, and the selection can't be beat! You won't find Kendall Jackson here, and I applaud them for that; they bring in a wide variety of wines both in terms of flavor an price point, so there legitimately is something for everyone. My favorite thing to do is to go into the store without an idea of what I actually want, because without fail someone will approach you and ask you a couple simple questions, and find the best wine you can dream of. This is my favorite wine (and liquor, since they began selling it) shop in all of RI. It is a family owned and run business by a lovely East Greenwich couple who always go the extra mile to be sure their shop is up to date in everything wine and liquor. From hosting wine tastings to bagging your purchase in gorgeous bags with maroon tissue paper, to having a frequent buyers' reward club, AND a super-helpful staff, the Granatiero's never miss a beat or a chance to give you the most positive spirit-purchasing experience possible. Jessica (Mrs. Granatiero) has, in the past, been rewarded for her excellence with trips to fine wineries, where she expanded her already deep knowledge of the grape. I'm not certain if she has or does lead wine country tours for some of her lucky patrons - somewhere in the back of my mind I believe I recall that she has done this in the past - (but if not, I am certainly hoping she will!). If Jessica is not in the shop, one of her excellent staffers will graciously assist you with your purchase as they, too, are extremely knowledgeable about their products. It is a real pleasure to shop in such a pleasant, immaculate and tasteful environment as the Granatiero's provide at The Savory Grape. There is no traipsing up and down aisles hoping to grab an employee to help find what you need - the well-educated folks here are always a step or two away to help you find just the right bottle from their abundant selections. The shop is conveniently located in the shopping center where Dave's Marketplace is, along with a ton of other popular storefronts like Panera Bread, Massage Envy and Gold's Gym - so shopping here is extraordinarily convenient if you're in the area. Pros: - Location right off the highway (as I don't live in Warwick/EG) - Location next to Dave's Markey --- which is more often why I stop in this shopping plaza. - Friendly, KNOWLEDGEABLE staff who help you find just what you are looking for, and within the price range that you can manage. - Small beer selection -- helps me to have a little bit of both wine and beer when shopping for entertaining - You can sign-up to have them keep track of your purchases -- so when I inevitably do not remember the name of the bottle that I bought that I really liked....the computer can help me. :) - Wide selection from economy wines to higher end wines. - I bought a reusable canvas bag that has spacers for 6 bottles. It is really handy. - If you buy in bul (6 bottles or 12 bottles or by the case), there's a discount. It gets larger the more you buy. Cons: - Not closer to home. I really like shopping here when I make the stop. The staff have helped me discover some of my favorite wines. read more

I was trolling through Wine-searcher looking for a particular (and peculiar) Hungarian wine named after my favorite chef. I might have gone to Burlington VT, NYC (nah) or San Diego, but instead I chose the Savory Grape - only one hundred miles and change away The very helpful (and lovely) Sam assured me that what I was looking for was indeed in stock. She then arranged to pack up and put aside my order for next day (Sunday) pickup and greeted me with a smile and my wines when I got there. It doesn't get any better than that. The store itself was easily accessible with lots of shopping mall parking. It is lovely inside and has a nice selection. Got a call the next day - totally unsolicited - telling me the company had moved and asking if I had inadvertently provided the old address. Fortunately, I had the correct one - they maintained presence at the old address. This kind of thing never happens with any online purchases, ever. The Savory Grape is a great little wine shop in downtown East Greenwich. I frequent the place as often as my budget affords. They have a pretty size-able selection of all different types of wine and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They are excellent with recommendations for food pairings and guests to my families house have enjoyed every bottle they've suggested. The owners (who frequently work the register) are easy going and always looking for ways to help wine newbies. P.S. My sister and I went in this past weekend to explore a gift idea for her anniversary. We had saw online that they did engravings on wine bottles, etc. and wanted some more detail on the process. We were directed to a young female who apparently was in charge of that process. She answered our questions, but wasn't the friendliest and made comments that have stuck in my mind since...which has lead to this review. Being the big sister that I am, I had asked a lot of questions on my sister's behalf to make sure we got all of the necessary information. We had bickered at one point, and the female employee made a comment to my sister, "feisty". I found this to be extremely unprofessional. Regardless of who was making the order, we both should have been treated with professionalism and respect. Additionally, I had planned on utilizing this idea in the near future. In light of this recent experience, I will definitely not be returning. To top it off, my sister picked up her order today and said it didn't turn out as she expected and thinks it looks tacky. She sent me a picture and I agreed. If you're thinking about doing this, make sure you are very clear about what you want. read more

A great selection of lesser-known wines and a very knowledgeable staff make this one of the better wine shops in RI. Nice decor and an easy layout for browsing make the in-store experience pleasant also. I'm always happy with their less expensive and generally unknown selections, their people do a great job with hidden gems and the staff are very willing to chat and share. I hope to do a tasting there someday. My only complaint is the pricing on the more known wines/vineyards. You can usually find those (including spirits and champagne) for a better price elsewhere. But, if I need some advice or am in the mood to check out some unique and interesting wines, The Savory Grape is one of only two places I'd go in the state. read more
